  • Cult classic movie.
This is a cult classic movie. I watched it when it first came out and wanted to see it again. Peter Fonda at his best, what more could you ask for....more info
  • dirty? crazy? fast! cool!
If you like car chase movies, vanishing point, two lane blacktop, or bullit - this movie is a duty for you....more info
  • More than just car chases
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, why does it get 5 out of 5 stars from me? Simply because for what this type of movie is, it does it better than almost any other film of this genre. Sure it's a trashy roller coaster ride, but the camera shots are beautifully done and the actors deliver the lines just right. Peter Fonda is determined to make the big time no matter what, even if involves armed robbery and extortion. He's remorseless and reckless, yet delivers some great lines. "Yeah, yeah, so we got off to a bad start. Know what that means?..." as the director zooms in on Fonda, "...not a goddamn thing!" (as he puts the accelerator to the floor).

His sidekick played by the underrated Adam Roarke slowly asserts himself in the movie, projecting a coolness that contrasts with Fonda's obsessiveness. Susan George plays the slatterny Mary who throws a monkey wrench into Fonda's plans, three's a crowd indeed.

Vic Morrow lights up the screen with one of his classic hardass portrayals. He's the rule breaking cop who's determined to hunt Fonda's car down and take him out. "You know how to take orders?" he says to the nodding helicopter pilot he's comandeering. "Good, cause I give lots of 'em!"

The car chases are excellent, don't get me wrong. The drawbridge scene, the crazy driving on the orchard roads, the close calls with tractor trailers, the good ol' boy cop in his loaded car chasing Fonda down a dusty rural road, just great action all around. For those who like Dodge Chargers you've come to the right movie.

Don't forget Roddy McDowall's uncredited cameo as the supermarket manager. Oh yes, the ending is great, no spoilers here, enjoy.

  • FAST, FUN AND FULL OF TALENT.
This is one of the, if not the best car chases ever. Fast paced movie that's loaded with talent, and by far never boring. What sets the classic chase movies from the ones of today is, no computer imagery, no animated trickery. Just raw talent. My first time seeing this movie was at the local drive-in. Dirty Mary Crazy Larry was billed as a double feature along side with another great chase movie Vanishing Point (also recommended). My advice is make sure you have all your refreshments ready before you watch this flick. So put the cat outside, feed the dog, let your answering machine/voice mail take your calls. Then pump up the volume and strap yourself down in your favorite chair and get ready for the ride of your life! And then if your still in the mood for speed, watch (the original) Vanishing Point. ...more info
  • Did you miss these 2 scenes?

I noticed there were 2 scenes missing from this movie. Both take place during the change from the chevy to the Charger.
    1. A group of men are tossing quarters against a wall. The one that gets his quarter closest to the wall wins. Larry plays "stupid" like he has never seen this game before. The let him play and he wins all of the quarters.
    2. Right after they take off in the Charger the police are interviewing the men who grabbed Mary. They ask for a description of the car. 1st guy says" hey, did you hear that 351 cleveland. 2nd guy says " That was a stock block 426 hemi, 3rd guy says " your both wrong, it was a 440, I saw the decal".
My description might be a little bit off since I have not watched my vhs version of this movie in a few years. Anyone else notice anything else missing? Still a very good movie. But with missing scenes and a documentery that does not talk enough about the Charger used in the film I could only give it 4 out of 5....more info
  • Dirty Amry, Crazy Larry
Not having seen this movie when it was first released I had no idea what to expect, but very quickly I was back in the 70's. Whilst I felt some of the acting was tame, it was probably the script that the actors had to work with that was the problem. As a piece of entertainment for a car guy I thought it was alright....more info

  • This movie creates cool and doesnt blow it
I always read people's complaints, and I'm also a pretty particular person when it comes to movies, so I have to disagree. There is no plot per se, except a couple of professional thieves trying to get away, but so what?
Sometimes movies are fun for throwaway entertainment and this delivers it. The transfer is beautiful. You really feel like you are right there, and its coming up on forty years ago.

Peter Fonda does his job as the cool but corrupt aspiring racer, the girl is convincing as a vapid small-town loser/floosie, and the third guy is less memorable, but plays a good mellow mechanic who's ready to boil over. I really enjoyed seeing Vic Morrow again, who died in the early 80s. His role is a bit under-directed, but he plays the crusty, angry, not-in-my-town rabble dirty enough to pursue DIrty Larry.

THe characters fill in the gaps between the action, and convey a sort of 60s-70s looseness and boredom with normal life lost long ago to computers and video games. The car chases are grade A. I didn't see much that was blatantly unrealistic and the stunt work really reminded me of Tarantino's Death Proof, which I'm sure used this movie and possibly old stunt experts for inspiration. It may not equal the action of modern effects epics, but you dont have to watch some juvenile romance either. It hangs together well, it doesn't try to be more than it is, and it delivers some top quality stunts with no CGI anywhere. I ordered it for my friend, and liked it enough to get it myself, and I dont buy many movies.

If you like car chase movies, its one of the five best, and one of the few that has been properly transferred and packaged. At this price, its a great buy. Death Proof is as good for action, but this one's feel is highly realistic. They're about equal, and I can't think of many other car chase movies, besides scenes in French Connection etc, that equal these two. They should sell them together.

Dont let the awful opening song put you off....more info

  • They don't call them that for nothing.
Talk about a blast from the past. Leave it to Tarrantino to dredge this one up and repackage it for a young audience. As fun as this movie was to watch at the time, there wasn't much to it except for the killer ending. Peter Fonda and Susan George gave it a hipper attitude than other 70's high speed movies like Vanishing Point, Sugarland Express and Smokey and the Bandit, but the muscle cars were the main attraction. Nothing like having 440 cubic inches of V-8 engine under the hood! ...more info

  • Crash n Dash off with the Stash
    "Nice little town".
"Any town's a nice little town, when you nail a broad".
So begins this cult classic cross country demolition derby. It's a basic script, two guys and a gal on the run from the cops with a case fulla loot. This has some real adrenaline pumping stunts, not that CGI manure. The sexy Susan George said afterwards "Alot of that screaming was for real".
This is just low budget high octane pedal to the metal madness, fast and furious and super dangerous. Plus it has one of the greatest ending ever! Way too cool. ...more info
  • DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY
This is one of the ultimate chase movies of the 70's. It isn't like Bullitt where there is only a 10 minute chase scene. They run all out throughout the movie. At the end a sublime 1969 Dodge Charger is being chased by police interceptors and helicopters. There are some cool jumps, wrecks and really wild scenes. This has got to be the best "B" movie ever made. Trust me you will love it....more info
  • Great car movie!
If you are a man and you haven't seen this movie then you might want to go visit your OB/GYN doctor. This is one of the greatest car movies ever made.

If you have a son that is 10 or older and he hasn't seen it then go buy this movie and let him watch it. Just make sure you don't tell him you haven't seen it or he might awake in a frightened stupor believing he was talking to his Aunt Mildred about Flashdance....more info
