Customer Reviews:

  • Awesome Hardware Horrible Software
The Zune itself is great (the battery dosen't last as long as they say, but it's not that big of a deal). It's simple, well built, and farily easy to use. On the other hand the software is total garbage. It displays albume incorrctly for about 20% of my MP3s. I have called Microsoft about it and no one could give me a straight answere why this is happening. As of yet there is no other software that will function with the Zune v3.0. The software is also useless for taging MP3s. If you have a large collection of MP3s think twice befor buying the Zune. It's sad that such a great peice of hardware has such crappy software and customer support. I will never be buying any Microsoft product again....more info
  • Great screen size, difficult set up.
I love my new Zune, that is after I got it running. It took me forever to set up because I had to download a huge program on a bad internet connection. It doesn't come with a CD so you have to do the download if you want to add any music. After I got it running it is great. The screen size is fabulous and I love the menu's and display. The Zune software is even great too. I would definitely by this rather than others but wish it came with a CD to make set up easier....more info
  • The Best MP3 Player Ever!
This is truly an amazing little thing. The interface is clean but stylish and the software is so nice to use. You can organize all of your music and movies perfectly without any hassle. Plus it actually feels like it is a solid piece of hardware unlike the iPod. Based on what I've seen of the iPod, it looks incredibly outdated compared to the Zune. I just love it, it's so easy to use and has a wonderful battery life. The touch pad navigation is also very nice. It's just a good solid product where you know you will get your money's worth. Plus you just can't beat how perfect the red color is. I love it! Forget the iPod, Zune's are a million times better!...more info
  • DO NOT GET A ZUNE
I've had two, I used to love them. One broke a day after the year warranty and too bad for me. If you're computer does not completely comply with Microsoft ANYTHING, you can not install the software .(you need MS firewall, you need MS updates, etc or the software will not run and will render your Zune useless.)

They have horrible customer service. They transfer you around like crazy and then just "can't help".

    DO NOT GET A ZUNE! ! ! ! ! ! !...more info
  • If you love videos in your Zune DON'T BOTHER.
I want to start this off by saying all the positive things these people are saying about the Zune are true. This 120 Zune looks amazing. The screen is crisp and pleasing to the eye. The sound quality is very good, theres a couple of cute games on there if you like poker or puzzle games.
I have the Zune pass so i download unlimited music every month for 15 bucks. (with the exception of a couple of bands who make you pay, I am looking at YOU Red Hot Chili Peppers)
You might be asking yourself "This does NOT sound like a 3 star review so far...."
And you know what, if music was all i wanted this Zune for it WOULD be a 5 star review.
What drops this down to 3 is the fact that the MICROSOFT ZUNE does not support WMV files.
    WindowsMediaVideo files.
    Microsoft windows. Microsoft Zune.
The only video i've been able to watch so far have been the one free episode of "Parks and Recreation" they give you at the Zune store.
My digital movies all come from Amazon Digital and from Digital copies of DvDs i buy. All very legal, all very much mine to put on my Zune.
Then i use windows to save them to my hard drive as WMV files.
I thought maybe i was dumb and didn't understand the workings of the Zune, that probably in a couple days i'd stumble upon a way that the Zune softwear would convert my files to be Zune friendly. Instead i googled "Why won't my Zune play my WMV files" and found this to be a common frustration with Zune owners. That microsoft is "First and foremost a music player..." (quoted from Microsoft VP J. Allard when asked about why Zune doesn't support WMV files)
Well, if you, like me are shelling out 230-330 bucks (depending on the add ons a protective case and what not) then i'm guessing your going to want your video files to play on it as well.
    Well tough luck says Microsoft.
    Well **** you Microsoft.
I thought i'd left greedy bull**** behind with the Ipod.
    Apparently not....more info
  • Would be the best player, if it would keep working.
I give the Zune one star because I have been through 4 defective units. I would give it a perfect 5 stars based on all other measures.

Over the course of 6 months, I have owned three 8GB and one 120GB Zunes. Each one lasted about 2 months (though one lasted only a week), then refused to power up and/or reset. I took good care of each and didn't drop or otherwise bang up any of them. I used the Zune wall charger to recharge them. I scoured the web to find solutions for the problem, and found many users who had the same problem - though the usual solution of performing a reset did not work for me. Luckily, the store that I bought them from would allow me to exchange the units when they went unresponsive.

Prior to my Zune experience, I owned several Creative Labs MP3 players, all of which lasted for years. I regrettably traded in my final defective Zune for an iPod 120GB, which I have been using for a month now. Of ALL of the players that I have used (including my new iPod), I like the Zune the best. The display is the largest and clearest, the menu system is the most useful, and the controls (except the center "select" button, which can be hard to hit squarely) are the easiest to use and most logical. I find the use of the iPod scroll wheel, menus, and display to be annoying. The Zune was a pleasure to use, when it worked, but it just kept bricking on me. If you take the gamble and buy a Zune, be sure that you check into a good return/repair policy....more info
  • move over Ipod, Zune is here
To me this is the best mp3 player out in the market today. The Zune software is great to use. Loading and syncing music and movies on the device is very easy. I highly recommend getting a case for it so you can enjoy it while working out or running. The headphones are very good quality and sound good, although they do not stay in your ears very well when running so you may need to get earbuds. I really enjoy the Zune and it is one the best purchases I have made....more info
  • Good bang for your buck
Wonderful device. Love the larger screen and the sound clarity is fine.

You need to know how to convert some video and sound clips but there are several good programs available for this.
Conversion via the ZUNE software is drastically slow. Hopefully Microsoft will address this in the near future...more info
  • beware
I bought 4 Zunes. One for myself and the other three for family members. The cables break and this caused the connector port to fail in one of my Zunes. It has a 1 year warranty, but 2 months out of warranty they told me I would have to pay $129.95 to get it fixed. It would be one thing if it was abused, but this was caused by the cable. ...more info
  • The Zune Rules!
Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)

I bought this fine piece of electronic goodness based solely on the opinions and reviews of users on Amazon, and I was NOT disappointed. I've trusted these opinions on camera, mp3 players, and headphones, and thus far, have been blessed to have those reviews be very specific and well thought out. I would readily recommend this particualr Zune to anyone, it blows the iTouch out of the water. Rock on!...more info
  • Zune 120
I bought this MP3 player because my ipod nano kept filling up. Everytime I wanted to add music, I had to delete music. I don't think I'll ever have a problem with the Zune. So far, I have about 6000 songs and about 7000 pictures in it and I still have about 83 gig left. I love it and use it every day !...more info
  • 5 "Contact Support"? After 2 Months??!!
I purchased this Zune two months ago and this thing gives me a "5" Contact Support message and does not work. This started by the player sticking and skipping in certain spots. I payed a lot for this player and am very disappointed that I did not get what I payed for. I have to send this in and get a refurbished model and I am very mad about that since I did not buy it refurbished. I should have gotten the Ipod and now I know better since I am now in the market for a new player. I am so getting an Ipod because it's better and does not break as easy as that did and I did nothing to it! What a waste but I should have known because the same company came up with Vista and Windows Media Player 11! I am thinking about ditching everything Microsoft now and going with Macintosh because they have not let me down with their computers and now I am about to see what the Ipod does!...more info
  • Super quality and performance with only minor drawbacks!
For a music lover, I came to the mp3 world relatively late. Probably one reason for this is that my only experience with mp3 players was with my wife's Ipod. That device has always seemed counter-intuitive and awkward to me. After dealing with that device for a few years I started looking for a simple player, something akin to a flash drive with speakers, that I could connect to my computer and drag some music files onto and go. Before I ever got around to buying something that simple, my wife bought me this Zune 120 for Christmas and I've never looked back.

First I'll list the good stuff:

    - All of the instructions were clear right out of the box.

    - The Zune software/computer interface is also pretty intuitive. I learned to use it quickly and can see the benefit of having that proprietary software in place to provide a structure to the contents and files I have placed on my Zune device. Its WAY better and easier to use than the Ipod/I-tunes software.

    - This thing has a HUGE amount of memory. My Zune is barely 1/3 full and I now have every scrap of music I own (2,500 songs) and a ton of video (including 50 episodes of the Three Stooges) stored on this device!

    - The battery life is very good, especially if all you want to do is listen to music. It also charges quickly, both in the dock and when connected to a USB port on my computer.

    - The sound quality is excellent, the volume goes plenty high enough, and the screen is large and crystal clear. I don't mind watching video on this screen at all.

    - Probably my favorite thing about the Zune though is the ease of navigation. It took me about 5 minutes to get the hang of moving between the menus. It is also super easy to use the "Squircle" pad, and the swipe touch sensitivity is incredible. It sure makes super fast scrolling down a list of songs a breeze.

The only "downsides" I have encountered with my Zune are:

    - The screen is a fingerprint magnet, and seems like it could scratch easily (I have been careful/lucky and so far my screen is still in great shape).

    - Connecting the Zune device to a TV is not terribly intuitive and I have yet to find a good set of instructions on how to accomplish this.

Overall, this device has taken me from someone who never liked MP3 players to someone who now couldn't live without it. It is a very high quality player with great performance features and an intuitive, easy to use feel. Highly recommended!

  • Meets All expectations
All of my friends have ipods and are they jealous of my new Zune. It is slick, and seems very durable with falls. I can take it anywhere and it is small enough to fit anywhere, but it also holds my entire music collection. Zune it does the job..I wouldn't change it at this point!!!! fIVE STARS ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!...more info
  • Bad battery
I love the Zune in almost every way. It's easy to use, good sound quality and well made. I could do without the Zune software, it takes forever to load and has more bells and whistles than I need. I just want to transfer music, period. I don't need another msic organizer/library on my pc. I don't know why Microsoft doesn't make this so that you can use Media Player, Hello? Microsoft! The worst part is that the battery is VERY irratic. If I use it every day battery life is pretty good. But! If I don't use it for a few days the battery drains completely and it will not power on. Then, I have to charge it for hours, usually overnight, for at least 8 hours, before the battery is recharged fully. It is very frustrating to pick the Zune up, expecting to be able to listen to music only to find it completely dead and then, not be able to use it for a good 8 hours while it recharges. I have no idea what the heck it does that would cause the battery to drain completely while it is powered off. No other players I own or have owned have ever done that....more info
  • I love my new zune
I've owned my zune for a couple of days now and so far i can say that i am very impressed. As a previous Ipod owner, it takes a while to get used to the way things work in the "zune world" but it sure is worth it. As the very visual person that i am, i love the interface and the way things look in the zune, having the option of changing wallpapers is something i enjoy a lot and it's something that i couldn't do in my old ipod. The navigation system in the zune is amazing, i can not believe how easy it is and the big screen is probably my favorite feature...sure for a big screen you could get an ipod touch, but seriously, this is 120 GB, big screen, easy navigation, radio....it's worth it, i'm glad i got it instead of getting another ipod, im loving it!!!!...more info
  • I found it easier to use than an ipod
I love the Zune. i find it very easy to use and the Zune software for your PC is much better than itunes. It has never locked up my PC (itunes does) and it loads very quickly (itunes does not). It cost far less than an ipod and holds much more.

I use mine as a permanent fixture on top of my stereo. It is big but I don't care about portability. I like the extra big screen for the way I use it. If you want something that you are going to carry in your pocket you may want the ipod instead because it is much smaller....more info
  • Awesome
Simply put, I love this thing. Huge storage space, easy to sync program. Readable screen. Battery life is long enough for at least a days worth of play (I listen to it on the train ride to work while playing games and that'll last a couple days.) Touch pad works pretty great. The only thing I could complain about is sometimes if I switch from scrolling to the left to scrolling to the right too fast, it won't switch around. No big deal, I'm a patient guy. I've never had an iPod, so I can't compare it, but with so many people owning an iPod, I thought I'd encourage the competition and "Think Different." Glad I did....more info

  • Tha Zune is Worthless...
The Zune is the worst crap software device I have EVER tried to use...
The device itself is good but the software that it runs on is total, worthless garbage. It works 10% of the time only...
Loading this device with the JUNK microsoft Zune program is a total nightmare.Playlists appear and disappear. I ordered this because I use windows XP and I thought it would be more compatable with a Microsoft operating system. I was WRONG.
Do yourself a favor and stick to the Ipod...
Avoid this Zune CRAP.... ...more info
  • Not bad for Video
I like the Microsoft Zune but the one issue I have with it is that it does not seem to turn off. The system dims and goes into a sleep mode but if any buttons are pressed, it turns back on. This keeps the battery on the lower end of the charge most of the time if you are active and keep your Zune in a backpack....more info
  • Better than the iPod
Bought this as a gift for my brother to replace his iPod when it died. He loves the bigger size (those iPods are so small you could lose them in your hand :) ) and Zune gives you more GB for your money. He absolutely loves his Zune-and I don't see him going back to iPod....more info
