Customer Reviews:

  • May as well be a rental.
With Digital Rights Management, only being able to install this game a few times on one PC, the publishers have made this an expensive rental. I will buy the console version and give that version a good, honest review....more info
  • DRM whiners usually=communists
So I just noticed this game out of the corner of my eye looking at something else and I noticed the 2 star review average. Since I havent played far into the game I was intrigued..was it really that bad?

When I clicked over to the reviews I find a bunch of liberal commie pirate DRM protesters have infected the place with a bunch of lies. Claiming the DRM on this is a virus and whatever. Instead of reviewing the actual game which they all probably pirated.

I have the game, it runs perfect, and I didn't know it had DRM. You will never know the DRM exists. Ever. It will never ever, cause you a single problem. You can also play the game without the disc in.

Now too the game..as I say I havent played far but it SEEMS fun. Very open ended which I far prefer over the call of duty 4 style linear snorefests that are so poular today, especially on the kiddie consoles like dumbed down console games like Killzone 2.

The graphics well, if you didn't know theyre the best in the world. That said Crysis Warhead actually runs worse than Cryis. People say it's optimized but the fact is (and all benchmarks prove) it runs slightly worse. It supposedly LOOKS even better though, which is why it runs worse.

I LOL at the reviewers who said he plays this at 1920 with a "powerful" 3850 GPU and 1.8ghz CPU...HAHAHA. I have a Q6600 quad core at 2.4 ghz and a 9800GTX+ GPU (which blows a 3850 out of the water) and 4GB RAM and I struggle mightily at 1680X1050..I guess he turns all settings to low. So anyways yeah, if you want to run any kind of high or better settings, you need a powerful rig. With my above setup I can run all gamer settings at about 26-28 FPS. Which is improved a lot when I first fired up the game months ago, it ran worse, but new drivers have helped performance in this game a good deal....more info
  • Limited / Remote Activations = No $$ For EA. Bad Move.
Potential customers, this is all you need to know: You can only install this game five times. So yeah, don't get attached to it.

Unless, of course, you're one of those folks who fall into the "I don't intend to activate my game over five times, and because I don't need to, you shouldn't either" group.

After the fifth, you will have to grovel to EA's Customer Service Dept. for additional activations. So - if begging a stranger in a call center in some foreign land (who probably barely speaks English) is how you enjoy spending a Saturday afternoon - buy the game.

EA: I would have bought your game on the day of release. Until you remove the limited activations and remote activations nonsense from the game, I will not buy it.

Also EA, just for your edification - 81 of our 94 clan members are now boycotting all of your products. Almost all of us are considering buying BF1943 for the PC when it is released this coming September. The deal-breaking factor will be the DRM issue. Dump it and the boycott ends. Choose not to, and you can do the math on how many thousands of dollars you will cost yourselves from alienating this one clan alone, to say nothing of the millions of lost customers you've infuriated with this nonsense so far.

    Cheers!

  • I agree
I came here to purchase this game. Based on these reviews and the subsequent investigation by myself- I REFUSE to purchase this crap until there is no DRM in it. The game looks great- and plays great from what I've seen.

  • This game secretly installs malware
Buyer beware - the product description does not describe some important
    aspects of the game:

This game requires an Internet activation, so if you have no Internet
    connection you can't play.
Also you are limited to 5 activations - so effectively you are not buying and owning a game, you are merely renting the game.

This game secretly installs copy-protection software called SecuROM which can cause many problems for your computer, some of which are:

    1. When installing the game the user is not informed that SecuROM is being installed.

    2. SecuROM denies administrators full access to their PC, and blocks the
administrator from editing certain parts of the registry.

    3. SecuROM can interfere with the operation of hardware, specifically disc drives.

    4. SecuROM can interfere with the proper operation of software.

    5. When the game is uninstalled SecuROM is not uninstalled - it remains
    permanently on your computer.

    6. The manner in which SecuROM runs on your computer is similar to that of malicious software called malware, and many people do indeed consider SecuROM to be malware.

There have (at May 2009) been five class action lawsuits have been filed
against Electronic Arts (EA) for their use of SecuROM.

  • A review about the game, not the same old DRM rant
I was a big fan of the original Crysis, so this was a no-brainer for me to check out. I'll keep this short and sweet:

    PROS:
    * Retains the original Crysis gameplay
    * More vehicle missions, which are usually quite fun
    * Slightly less hardware-demanding than the original
    * Cheap

    CONS:
    * Shorter gameplay than the original (which is why it's cheap)
    * Storyline isn't particularly interesting
    * Fewer deformable structures to blow to smithereens

Bottom line, if you loved the original, you'll probably love this, though you'll wish it had a longer story....more info
  • Crysis is the bomb!

  • Short, Expensive, and DRM crippled.
This game has great graphics- no argument there, but everything else is disappointing!

First of all: it is short. Under 3 hours for some, under 5 for nearly all gamers.

Second, priced at its MSRP, its length and entertainment value do not justify the price. Look elsewhere at this holiday season's multiple other releases for better value.

Had EA done the smart thing and released the game without DRM (or with rational DRM) and avoided paying up for secureROM then they could have passed the savings onto the consumers.

Also, the script for the game is laughably cheesy.

Please EA, listen to your customers. Stop treating us like criminals. It is a sad realization that the pirated versions of the game are more secure and playable than retail.......more info

  • Will not buy another EA game with SecuROM DRM
I loved the first Crysis, but I will not buy another EA game until EA stops including SecuROM 7.x DRM in its latest games. The following excerpt from Stardock's Customer Report 2008 sums it up for me. Stardock recently released Galactic Civilizations II and Sins of a Solar Empire. I wish the entire gaming industry would start to follow Stardock's lead.

    Stardock's Policy on DRM
"Digital Rights Management is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the industry. DRM has become a catch-phrase for basically any type of copy protection. Stardock's position isn't anti-DRM or anti-copy protection but rather anti-stupid-DRM and anti-stupid-copy protection.

Broadly speaking, Stardock's position is that companies/individuals have every right to protect their intellectual property any way they want. However, we feel the most effective way to increase sales is to protect IP in a way that doesn't seem to punish legitimate customers.

Stardock's software and games don't require users to keep their CDs in the drive for instance. That only punishes legitimate customers. It's annoying to keep track of a CD and a pirate certainly doesn't have to worry about that since they're running a cracked version. So you actually end up better off if you're a pirate.

Similarly, DRM that has arbitrary activation limits for the lifetime of a product are counter-productive. A pirate doesn't have to worry about such limitations because they're running a cracked version. Yet the legitimate customer is stuck in the situation where they can't use a game or program because, a year later, they've bought a new PC and run out of activations. That's madness."...more info
  • kinda short but really good
I figured that with all the people pissing and moaning about the EA security software, someone would actually like to hear about the game itself.

It's short, but it's still a really fun game. The game is the "special mission" Psycho is given in Crysis right after you blow the carrier as Nomad and right before the Tank level.

The story is pretty good, a little weaker then the first but doesn't have as many holes in it. You'll just have to play it to find out what I mean. There are new toys to play with:
Weapons: FGL40 grenade launcher which has two firing modes; impact detonation and remote detonation, AY69 MMG hand gun which can replace your pistol but it rides up like the SMG so it's difficult to use and the PAX (I don't remember what it stands for), a very nice gun that's a slow reload but unlimited ammo and boy does have a kick to it. It can take out the little mini drones with one shot.
Vehicles: ASV armored vehicle and a hovercraft.
Grenades: the FGL40 has an EMP and a frag grenade. As for throwing grenade; we now have a claymore mine (those are really fun), AT (anti-tank) land mine (it blows the Humvees and everything else in a 15 foot radius sky high) and a "nanogrenade" - it's an EMP type grenade that disables nanosuits (the KPA has the suits and grenades too, so watch out because there are more of them in warhead then in crysis).
There is also a new turret, anti-vehicle, it's slow but pretty powerful.

The graphics are as breathtaking as the original, even on the lowest settings. The sound is great too, the only thing is it isn't the same guy who does the voice for Psycho but it's another London accent (think Jason Statham's accent) so it's not too bad.

You also get what's called "Crysis Wars", it's its own disk of a multi-player game. I haven't installed it but from what the booklet says i figure it's alot like Halo, you can play online or play in a LAN (Local Area Network) party. There is a death match game and power struggle game. Power struggle is like king of the hill, play as US or KPA. Sounds fun but I don't have anyone to play with.

If you want a long, "keep you on the edge of your seat game", this may not be what you're looking for. But for someone that likes FPSs or just want something to do while your bored, this is a great game. ...more info
  • Buyer beware, this game installs Securom (DRM)
Do not purchase any games with either Steam or Securom (DRM). These gaming companies want you to pay $60 to basically rent a game (limited installs, cannot resell the game) I will not purchase any games that install spyware/rootkits on my computer and I recommend you do the same. Be an informed consumer, research what these programs do. There is a reason the companies that publish these games don't offer any information when purchasing these games about securom/steam, they know an informed consumer would never install these malicious and damaging programs. Do yourself and the entire gaming community a favor and do not purchase these games....more info
  • Great Game,
Did not notice any registration issues. I paid for a game, I got a game.
What a game it is. New weapons are insane, I love the "claymore" and Anti-vehicle mines the best. The 20mm automatic cannon is mad destructive. The APC are a lark in the country. Some how they improved the graphics. Explosions are violent and mad deadly....more info
  • EA is going to kill themselves
I update my hardware about every 2 years (Motherboard, CPU), and with Graphics board technology, a new GPU every year. This would constitute NEW systems, and if I love the game as much as I love Crisis as I suspect, I will be playing it 6+ years from now but not be able to install it.

So until they do away with DRM, no Farcry2, no Crysis Warhead, no EA Games.
Sad, I go back with EA games to the Atari 800. I notice the Cracked EXE
is available. Still have to buy the DVD, then overwrite the main EXE, but I won't do it.

It does not stop pirates. They had the game cracked a week before it
was released! Almost anyone can get it. But we don't. Why?

    1. Programmers should be paid for their work
    2. There are more honest people out there than pirates
    3. Who knows what you are getting from someone that messed with the .exe.
I will buy my 3 copies thank you.

But not while they have this system in place that stops me from
using the product I paid for down the road... You would think they would
know better. I have been playing EA games since my first graphics PC,
my Atari 800! That is how long they have been around. I suspect like this, they won't be much longer...

I was really looking forward to this game for Christmas. I had hoped that after the uproar with Spore, EA would have gotten the message. Given their comments that only .02% of us care about DRM I guess it was naive to think that they would do the right thing and release this without SECURom and limited activations. Well, even though I really wanted to be playing this over the holidays, I am going to do the right thing and just say no-way EA. Not on my computer, no thank you. For whoever cares, you can count this as a lost sale....more info

  • Don't listen to the idiots givings less than 4 stars....
Okay, I own and have played multiple times: FarCry, Crysis, Crysis Warhead and FarCry 2. The only one that is sub-par is FarCry 2 (no surprise because it is Canadian and not German). Warhead is just as good as Crysis.... the storyline isn't quite as good, but the graphics are slightly better so it evens out. I have owned, installed, and played this multiple times on two different computers over several months and have had no problems with securom or drm or any of that stuff. If people complain about the security for this, you are nuts because steam is 10x more of a pain in the neck. If you purchase this game, and have a computer that can handle it, and a brain that can handle it, then you will not be dissapointed. SO GET IT!!!...more info

this game was amazing... if you liked the first one then this one will be just as good. Story, graphics, ai, effects, physics and such are all amazing. and its all good i say buy it, the only thing i did like was the multiplayer (crysis wars) which is a just a massive deathmatch that is all run and gun play, (im not a fan of that, you maybe tho idk). its just for such and great game they should of made a better MP if they tweaked that i would play the MP but the campaign is great, kinda short tho 9 out of 10 (i just dislike the MP) ...more info

This is one of the worst game that I have play in my live. The game is to easy to play and it the shortest game ever. • Warhead falls below the mark
Crysis: Warhead is a fun shooter for less than[...], but it falls well below the mark set by Crysis and other AAA FPS games for the following reasons:

    1. God-Awful cut scenes. Sykes spends minutes of cut scene time wordless and standing around. I think we are supposed to feel a connection with him, but I found myself getting up to get a drink during the cut scenes. Also, the voice acting was sub-par.

    2. Been there, done that feeling. Many of the levels feel like pale imitations of levels from Crysis. I know, it's the same setting and it take splace during the same time period, but it just feels like I've played it before.

    3. Graphics. Crysis brought lower spec machines to their knees with its graphical awesomeness, but Warhead lowered the requirements. To do this, they also cut corners and graphical quality. If you have a machine that ran Crysis at the Very High setting, Warhead looks cheap.

All in all, it's still a fun shooter, and worth purchasing if you loved Far Cry and Crysis. Just don't expect it to outshine those games. ...more info
  • More of the same (but still great)
If you have already played Crysis, there is not much new here. Instead of playing as Nomad, you play this game as Psycho, another of the special team deployed to the island.

However, the game is very well done and has less of a goal-oriented play style, which allows a bit more freedom to do things as you like instead of how the game designers intended.

Overall, I would say this game is definitely worth playing if you loved Crysis and want some more of it.

P.S.: I know that a lot of people have complained about the DRM mechanism used in this game, but I personally had absolutely no problems with it. In addition, it was convenient to be able to play the game without having to search for the disc everytime someone pulled it out of the drive....more info
  • Ok, ASIDE from SecuRom it's a fun game
To be honest I haven't really noticed the product activation with this game, but then I haven't had to re-install it. It's much shorter than the original Crysis, and doesn't really bring an awful lot new to the table. However, I found playing Psycho more fun than the plain Nomad. Psycho makes friends and loses them, does good and also screws up, and in general is more like a real person. The game play is better paced and the enemies are more challenging; in the end most of the negative reviews people are posting are to spite SecuRom. ...more info
  • Let's Be Fair
Let's be fair. This game is being rated here because of the copy protection, not the quality of the game. This is the same heart-stopping game that made my hands sweat and shake in Crysis. No, it's not quite as exciting as the original, and it IS very short.

Not everyone has an exclusive game machine, so I planned to reformat the drive and reinstall the OS after I finished the game. I didn't need to.

Yes, I agree that copy protection is insidious and I hate the way most companies make your computer their toy so they can make a few more bucks. Then again, if we didn't "share" our game with others, it wouldn't be necessary. These people have to make a living just like you do.

I rate this game four stars instead of five because it is short and heavily copy protected, but it's still exciting and fun....more info
  • End Game?
I wonder if EA is intentionally trying to p.o. pc gamers. Looking at some of the reviews here over the last year of pc games published by them would certainly appear so. Not the game play but there attempt to stamp out piracy. Or maybe thats a small part of it. The bottom line perhaps is that they don't want you to sell your used copies here or ebay. I would be leary about buying a used copy of a game that may have already been activated to the max limit. Like buying a used copy of winxp.

  • From a guy who loves PC games
So a lot of people say don't get this game because you can only install it 5 times... well big whoop. Firstly it has a fairly long campaign for only $30 and the multiplayer is insanely fun. If you had problems running the first Crysis, this may be a better option for you. I have a fairly powerful rig so I get pretty decent frame rates no matter what, but this one did seem to run quite a bit smoother. Now the guys at Crytek need to release a new patch to make the first one run this good. The action is intense, the music is epic, and the visuals are astounding. I enjoyed this one more than the first and I think you will to. Why do they put anti-piracy programs on these games? I'll give you a hint: RRRRR. It's not Crytek's fault that they want to protect their creation. If you don't want to be a fink just hand out 30 bucks which is less than the price of a used game and have some fun until GOW2.

  • More linear, not as good as the original
This game is really much more like an expansion pack than a stand-alone game. It's also split into sporadic episodes or missions, which is different to the original Crysis that played through from start to finish following one story arc. For example, when you finish a particular mission, the screen will fade to black and you'll be onto another mission whether you like it or not. I found this jolted me out of the story and was not as enjoyable as the first one.

The game as a few more weapon and vehicle types, which are interesting. There's one truck that fires exploding ammo and a corresponding large mine you can throw under it, or tanks.

A lot of the maps are disappointingly linear and not especially imaginative. I tried a number of times to use alternate routes by bounding up rocks only to find mysterious forces preventing me from jumping going any further... Also levels often just feel like you're just running the gauntlet instead of sneaking and peeking. One explosion-fest was fun but horrendously contrived with exploding barrels placed by every building and a gas station at the end.

It's an okay game, but really just more of the same. ...more info

  • Do yourself a favor and avoid the DRM
If you have any kind of respect for your own rights you would do yourself and the rest of the free peoples a favor by pirating it. If that does not work well with your conscience, pirate the game and send the developers a check in the mail with some kind of compensation.

buying this game from the store is only going to result in punishing yourself with HIDDEN computer behavior monitor software and a game that will no longer install after a limited number of installs. A cracked version of the game will play just as well, but wont spy on your computer usage. stand up for your rights so these companies will go back to scrupulous methods, and not treat their own customers as criminals....more info
