Crystal-Clear Calls No Matter Where You Are
Thanks to DECT 6.0 technology, you'll have clear calls all the time. Unlike older phones that use 5.8GHz, 2.4GHz, and 900MHz frequencies, the DECT 6.0 frequency is not susceptible to interference from WiFi networks and other phones and appliances, meaning you get static-free calls in your kitchen, by your computer, and everywhere else in your home. DECT 6.0 provides greater range and security as well.

Built-In Answering Machine
The digital answering machine records messages on a computer chip so you can jump from one to the next without any wait. The system also has playback speed control, letting you slow down your messages to catch important details such as phone numbers.

Full-Featured and Expandable
The phone features a stylish arched base design and comes with two handsets. The system is expandable to six handsets as your family or business grows, and doesn't require any additional phone jacks. With support for Caller ID, you can see the name and number of callers, even when you're already talking on the phone. Customer Reviews:

  • Squishy Buttons
Sorry, squishy buttons on this phone are a deal killer. Unless you want endless frustration trying to get the number pad to actually work when you type numbers fast - don't buy it. I cannot for the life of me understand why a company does not test its own products. You just cannot dial quickly on this phone. Half the time the buttons work, the other half they do not. ...more info
  • Mediocre
This phone has some major pluses and major minuses:

    Plus:
1). Good talk quality. Voice could sound a tiny bit more full but I'm being nit-picky here.
2). When you put someone on hold it plays music. I think this is super cool.
3). Google 411 info. This is really inventive.
    3). Lots of ring tones
4). Lots of volume levels to choose from.
5). Major +++: Phone is really comfortable to use. This is a major important factor and it scores the highest out of all the cordless phones on the market today.
    6). Great reception. No interference.
7). Great volume - Speaker wise also.
    8). Looks cool
9). The stand looks just as cool.
10). Cool blue light. This is not as bright as some make it out to be. I find it very toreable.

    Minus:
    1). Phone feels rather cheap:
a). Buttons don't have a high quality feel at all.
b). You kinda have to smash the buttons rather than just simply push them.
c). The phone seems to have a slow CPU. Meaning, there is a major lag when typing in numbers. If you type to fast it will miss a number.
2). Phone doesn't use regular triple aaa recharge battery's like the panasonic models.
3). The phone has an equalizer. Normally, that would be really cool. But when I hit the bass preset it makes the ear piece speaker rattle and sound real cheap. In other wards, horrible sound and not usable at all.
4). Speaker on the speaker phone also sounds kind of cheap. Definitely not bad, just a bit on the cheap side.
5). Does not have a way to directly access a memory location to dial a stored phone number. You have to go through a couple of menus.
6). Plastic housing feel is a bit on the cheap side. Maybe because the phone feels somewhat hollow?

This phone is very intuitive with all of it's features. Someone was very cleaver to think about putting the google 411 and the music while on hold options. In addition, this phone really hit's the spot with it comfort next to my ear. It could not be argued that this phone is unlike any other cordless phone out there and takes the cake with it's uniqueness.

It's biggest downfall was the corners cut to make the phone so inexpensive. The lag is really annoying. It's not just with dialing numbers but also with redial, etc. Think of it as an out of date computer that takes to long to carry out a function. And the buttons feel like you need to squish them rather than a normal button you can press with a feedback of a high quality feel. I haven't decided if I am going to keep the phone or not, it all depends if I can get used to the cheap feel(and laggy input functions) of the phone.

On a side note, if you just need to buy one of these and don't need 2 hand sets Circuit City sells the single model and it's super cheap. No, I'm not talking about the extra handset you can buy. I'm talking about you can actually buy just one and use it by itself. That is the only place that has them single.

  • A very nice phone setup
This is a very nice setup. I give it 4 stars cause of little difficulty setting it up older folks may have some difficulties at first figuring it out . However thats the only small drawback I can see so far.Its very nice has great audio quality. The built in answering machine is nice I probably won't use it cause I have voicemail through Time Warner Digital phone . I did have a older model Ge digital phone that time warner gave me when I signed up for their service last year. However this setup here the Dect 6.0 I like alot better has some nice features, It looks nice. I Like being able to keep on handset in my living room and the other in my bedroom with my computer telephone/cable modem. I see it has a alarm feature too which I may try out eventually . Its a very nice phone . The free directory google thing is great for us who are always missing our phonebooks which is a great idea btw. 4 stars for a overall great product....more info
  • Poor sound! I can't hear the other person...
I bought this phone because it was advertised as crystal clear reception with a great range. Unfortunately, I have never had a phone with such horrible reception. It makes me yearn for my first cordless 900mhz phone. At least I could hear the other person if they spoke in a normal voice.
I returned the 1st one I bought because I assumed it was defective. When I plugged in the 2nd set, it was just as bad.
I have given up on this brand and am currently looking for another DECT 6.o phone set.
Don't buy this phone - The bugs have not been worked out prior to release....more info
  • Very good purchase
I agree with previous reviewers about the blue light on the handsets; if you have these in your room, make sure you face them away from your bed. They will light the room up with an alien like luminescence, that can be seen from the space station.

Besides the super light, the reception is great. I am very pleased with the ability to check your messages from the handset, for us lazy folks out there, but it also gives you range and flexibility. You have few ringtones that you can choose from, and put caller ring ID's. There are some nice options, like conference with both handsets, search and so forth.

All in all, a good buy....more info
  • Everything was great...but the volume
Got a great price on this phone set from Amazon, and liked everything about it except one very....very important piece - the volume! My wife and I are in our mid 20's and neither of us could hear anything on these things. The people on the other end said they could hear us loud & clear, but unfortunately we just could not hear them (was more of a clear whisper). The volume was maxed out, as was the ringer volume, which too was a bit quiet for our tastes.

We returned the phone and purchased a Uniden DECT 3080-2 which has worked fine. The Uniden volume too is a bit soft on the highest setting, but it is still 2-3X what the GE was providing.

Would have rated the GE a 5 star had we been able to hear anything on it....more info
  • I Love This Phone....
Hi, I just went to walmart and purchased my phone yesturday after hours of reading reviews from different sites (including this one). I will be honest, I was so scared to get it because of all the reviews I read with the con's on the phone.
I saw the phone in Walmart a week ago but wanted to come home to see some reviews about it before buying it. I decided to buy it even though I wasn't very happy with the reviews because I wanted to try it myself (everyone is different or sometimes there might be a bad batch of phones). I currently own a Panasonic with 3 hand sets (5.8 GHz), there was nothing at all wrong with it I just wanted a change. I think what got me was the blue light and the nice design of the phone and answering machine (it was just something different). Anyway, I bought it and came right home and put the phones to charge. I didn't touch them or try to program them because it's not good to keep taking a cordless phone off the charger when you first get it, it's better to let it get it's full charge (I was told this by someone in radio shack a few years ago).
About 11 a.m. it was ready for me to try out. I wanted to make sure that all the con's that people wrote about wasnt a problem because I would have taken it right back to walmart to get my money back.
Well, it works GREAT and setting it up is not a problem at all. I was worried after reading some reviews but it was so easy. My oppinion is if someone is having problems with their phone maybe it's something you should call the company about so they can send you a new one.
The phone has 5 different ringer levels and they are great depending on what you prefer. The sound quility when you are on the phone is very clear. I have no problem with my caller ID (as some people mentioned), it comes on with the beginning of the 2nd ring (just like all my phones). The answering machine has a clear sound and you can screen your calls and pick up while they are leaving a message if you want to talk. Another thing that I saw someone complain about is when you dial a number that the numbers on the screen are very small so you aren't sure if you dialed the right number, well I don't know if thats something GE fixed because when I dial a number it shows up big and clear on the screen. I think there is one more thing that I wanted to mention and that is the blue light that a lot of people have complained about being to bright. That is something that each person would see different as far as it being a problem. If you ask me, it is just fine. I don't even notice it once my eye's are closed and I actually love it because if I get up to check on my babies and older kids it is like having a little night light on. If you ask me I feel that this phone is definatly worth buying and im glad I did. I almost got another phone (because of some of the reviews on this one) and it was way over $100, I am very gald that I bought this one and tried it out myself. I have never left a review on a product I have purchased before but I had to on this one because this phone was definatly worth me taking the time out to write one.
The only bad thing is that I wish I would have ordered it from Amazon because it was much cheaper then in Walmart. I did order the extra hand set for my older daughters room though before I wrote the review (which is the cheapest I have found it and there is FREE shipping).
I definatly give this phone 5 stars.

  • Feature Stuffing!
I was particularly interested in these phones because they promised to deliver a much improved sound quality over the phones I already use. While they live up to their promise, I found a number of features I did not enjoy so much.

    Here's my take:

    Pros:

    1. According to the folks I speak with regularly, these phones do deliver a much better sound than my old phones.

    2. The design is modern and appealing, looking good on desk and night stand.

    3. The answering machine is excellent, easy to set up, easy to tell at a glance whether there are new messages.

    Cons:

    1. As one reviewer has noted, the setup for these phones is not easy for older people. As an "older" person, I can admit that there are too many features for my taste. For example, do I really need a choice of 20 ring tones? Or an intercom/baby monitor for the smaller house I now own?

    2. The light on phone bases is too bright, way too bright for bedrooms. I was able to tone it down by covering it with paper stickums, but my solution does not go well with the sleek, modern design. Nevertheless, I prefer to sleep in the dark so the stickum stays!

    3. The wall design for the answering machine base is curved along the back side. At first glance, this seems to be a minor beef on my part, but when you install the base on the wall, it becomes more problematic: it rocks on the wall rather than staying flat and stable. That's a problem when you want to return the handset to the base.

All in all, I'd call this phone set a mixed bag. However, if what you're looking for is a phone that delivers quality sound, it may be worth putting up with the negatives, because the set does deliver quality sound.

    UPDATE: December 2, 2008

Two phones is not enough for the average household, but the quality of sound of these phones is so good that I have purchased additional phones for the house. I suggest that you buy the set with three phones rather than this one with two.

However, either choice you make is sure to provide quality sound. You'll enjoy using these phones!

  • Decent but extra features aren't all there yet
This is a decent phone set with lots of bells and whistles. The extra gadget factor comes at a price though. Unfortunately, elements like custom ring tones don't really work all that well because of slow caller ID detection and the interface can be a bit clunky. Still, if you like gadgety phones and don't mind the extra expense this isn't a bad choice....more info
  • Not so good
My husband bought this phone for me for Christmas. I loved the idea it had GOOG-411 for free and thought it looked nice. I was excited to get it all hooked up. Well, the second handset was a lemon. It didn't even show the numbers I was dialing on the keypad. I could answer the phone and talk, but nothing was on the LCD screen. Not only that, the sound wasn't clear. Some callers I would have to turn the volume up to the highest level to barely hear them. The answering machine was extremely clear though. The buttons are not plastic and the answering maching buttons aren't very separated. I ended up taking this phone back....more info
  • Great for the price
Couldn't be happier with these great phones. The best thing about them is their shape. I've got little hands, hubby has big hands, so it's not easy finding products that both of us like, but these are great! We went to Walmart to hold these and several other phones-these are actually comfortable to hold for extended periods and don't feel like they're going to slide out of your hands. Set up was easier than with our latest cell phones, reception is fine even outdoors. You can access the answering machine from any of the phones, picking a ring tone that you actually like is very satisfying, and the intercom function is nice if you're tired of yelling up and down the stairs Sound quality could be a bit better, but nothing sounds as good as an old fashioned corded phone. We got the extra handset with the Amazon deal a couple of months ago, so 3 handsets for $104 with all the features is a good price. We're very pleased with these. ...more info

  • Clear sound, lacks some features.
This phone works very well and has a clear sound. The lights on the charging units are bright, which makes it easy to find at night. The phone lacks a saving device that would hold all incoming numbers on the caller ID, so once you hang up there is no record of who called. The phone is somewhat complicated to figure out, when it comes to all the options that are on it, such as retrieving calls from the answering machine.

All and all a good phone for the money....more info
