Customer Reviews: - Not compatible with most cell phones (DO NOT BUY!!)
I bought this product with the belief if would be compatible with blue tooth technology. Is is very misleading the way they advertise this product 'Blue tooth compatible!". It is only compatible with a handful of cell phones, one if which is not mine (LG Dare). Yet no where on the box do they warn you that it is not compatible with bluetooth devices across the board.
It also drops calls frequently even if I am only a few steps from the base. It is an inferior product and when I tried to rectify the problem with customer service they were not helpful. They have no other products which are compatible and they refused to even give me a credit toward a different product.
I am displeased across the board with Panasonic and I will not be buying their products again....more info - Dropped calls = this product sucks --> DO NOT BUY
The dropped calls between the handset and the base completely ruin this otherwise nice product. It's somewhat of an inconsistent problem. I just had a 45 minute conversation without a drop. This was followed by a separate call that disconnected four times over a 20 minute period. There is nothing wrong with my cell phone. This does not happen with my other bluetooth products that connect flawlessly and do not drop calls. The fact that other people have this problem confirms that it is not isolated. ...more info - Very Good Phones
I purchased these phones about a month ago. I was not sure about them because of some of the reviews. I have to say I have had no problems with this phone dropping calls or connecting with my bluetooth cell phones. The only problem that I am having is my wireless internet connecting to my laptop in some parts of the house and I am not sure if this has to do with the phones or not. I would recommend these phones to a friend anytime they have been a great buy for my family....more info - Great idea for a home phone, but dropped calls ruined it.
This phone is a wonderful idea and I have had great success with the Bluetooth. When I purchased a new cordless home phone, it had to meet at least 4 requirements: It had to have Bluetooth, it had to have handset expandability of 3 handsets or more, the handsets could not use 2.4GHz, and it had to be a Panasonic. This phone fit the bill perfectly and it worked almost perfectly except for one flaw, dropped calls.
The dropped calls I was getting were on the landline (which was reliable for 3 years before I got this phone). The drops occurred less often at first and then at least twice a day before it was too much. I use my home phone for some business conference calls and during each conference call, the call would drop at least once and I would have to rejoin the conference call by calling back.
My base unit is in the center of my house and all of the calls were dropped within 15 feet of the base. I called Panasonic to see if it could be resolved. I was told the issue was known and I was given a case number and told I would be called back this week. I will wait for one week from the day I called customer support and if they don't call then I will return the phone to the store to get my money back, just shy of the end of 30 day return policy.
I wanted this to work, but Panasonic has duped it once again for the second generation. I hope they can get this fixed because it is really convenient.
UPDATE: After calling Panasonic again, they told me they had not heard of this issue and told me to return the product to them. This was not the most convenient for me so I returned the product to the store within the 30-day return policy. I exchanged it for another one hoping the issue was isolated to specific phones and the replacement has worked with almost no flaws for over 30 days.
The only issue I had was when I picked up the phone, dialed a number manually, and pressed talk. The handset lost connection to the base and the base disconnected all of the handsets and cell phones and reset. I tried to place the call again and the issue did not occur again.
UPDATE: My original rating of 1 star was correct. This product is the worst quality of any electronic product I have ever used. My present Panasonic phone now regularly disconnects the Bluetooth and will not successfully receive calls through a cell phone any more. It has turned into an expensive cordless phone and I am stuck running to answer my cell phone on the other side of the house. If someone gives you money to take this phone, take the money and THROW THE PHONE IN THE TRASH! ...more info - *Finally* Got this thing to work!
Against my better judgment I purchased one of these from a local retailer. When I got it home I was able to get it to sync with my BlueTooth phone, but I was unable to place calls. Receive calls, ok fine. But I couldn't dial out.
Finally I read the manual closely and found the answer on Page 35. I had to enter [Menu] #157 to disable the land line. Then I could dial the phone like a normal phone and it worked, even though my phone is not on the supported phone list. So that's good news.
Now for the bad news. My other Panasonic DECT 6.0 handsets do not work with this base station. They pair fine but say "check line" and don't work. It turns out model KX-TGA931T does not work with this base station. The KX-TGA930T work fine though.
I subtract 2 stars. One because you have to do special configurations to make it work without a landline (Which is why you get this thing in the first place, right?) and because that info is buried on page 35. One star knocked off due to compatibility with other Panasonic DECT 6.0 handsets.
...more info - less than expected
The Blue tooth component is functionless. The phone disconnects during a call for no apparent reason, even when it is a land base call. 5 thumbs down. No good...more info - Can I give it negative stars?!
This phone is total junk. Although the concept is splendid, its execution is abysmal. I cannot imagine a more pathetic product reaching the market. This phone system flat out does not work. You've seen the reviews that say it drops calls? No kidding. It drops land line, cell phone, incoming, outgoing... it even dropped the call when I called Panasonic to complain. They gave me a fix that seemed to work, and I really, really wanted it to work. And two weeks later, it failed again. Repeatedly. Repeatedly. On every single call. I could not recommend this product to anyone except perhaps my mother-in-law. ...more info - Piece of Junk
I got this as a Christmas present from my kids and it worked intermittently with my Motorola Razer cell phone. That means sometimes it worked fine and then other times it either wouldn't connect or it would drop calls. I was in the process of upgrading my Razer to a Blackberry Storm over the holidays. While the Storm works great, this thing won't connect to it despite the fact that my other Bluetooth devices will. Panasonic says that the Storm isn't one of the few supported phones on its list. They suggested that I get a phone that would support it...Right!!!! ...more info - Drops calls! Unreliable
It's a shame that such a nice thing doesn't work reliably. I have had this phone for 2 months and have never been so frustrated with a phone in my whole life. It drops calls randomly, sometimes many in 5 minutes, sometimes none for 4 days. For such a nice piece of hardware -feels like a quality phone, base, great features especially the Bluetooth integration, it is unreliable at best. Maybe it is a DECT 6.0 problem that the technology doesn't mix well in my house? I have the same problems with the Panasonic KX-TG9361 as well. I didn't have good luck with the GE Cell Fusion 28128EE2 phones either, but problems were different, people that would call me wouldn't always hear me although I could hear them. Never dropped calls though, that is very frustrating. I will never buy another Panasonic phone again....more info - BlackBerry Users - Beware!!
I work for a major wireless carrier and have tried every BlackBerry we offer to sync up with this device. It will establish a Bluetooth connection and I can receive and make phone calls with ease. However, as soon as the call is terminated, the Bluetooth connection is lost and does not automatically reconnect with the base unit. In short, you'll have to manually turn the Bluetooth off on your BlackBerry then back on and it'll "see" the base station and re-establish a Bluetooth connection. It is a nuisance to have to run upstairs after each phone call to repair the connection. ...more info - Great Phone!
I have had this phone for over a month and i just wanted to say i love it. i did read alot of negative reviews about dropped calls before i purchased, but Panasonic has always been good for me in the past. I have not experienced one dropped call with this phone either on the landline or link-to-cell connection. I always park my cell on its charger within 2 inches of the base unit, and i have the 2 handsets on 2 different floors of my brick house, they both have kept a clear, uninterrupted connection both inside and out. I used to miss a lot of calls on my cell when i had it on the charger, this phone has solved that problem thoroughly.
Also, the fact that it takes regular rechargable AAA batteries will come in handy in the future, i will not have to worry about finding that proprietary battery pack. The speakerphone function is also useful for when i am put on hold with the DMV.
Thank you Panasonic, you are my own personal Jesus. ...more info - Major Dud
Add me to the list of people that can't use the product because of dropped calls. I believe that the handsets may be the culprit as I tried using the included KX-TGA930T handsets on a different base station and experienced the same drops. Even if the dropped calls had not been an issue, I'd have given a fairly negative review of the bluetooth capability. It was a nice idea to be able to pick up a cell call from a handset anywhere in the house but the system doesn't work well when you are carrying your cell phone and you move in and out of range. ...more info - A tradesmart.net recommendation
This thing works! Easy to set up. Backlite keys and bright display. I love it. I forget it is connected to the cell? Tells you if you missed calls too! This is the hottest thing I have purchased all year. If you live in the mountains like I do, it will extend the range if you have dead spots. I recommend this highly. It also works great with the Wilson antenna systems and repeater/amplifiers. Don't hesitate. Tradesmart.net...more info - Do not buy the Pansonic KX-TH1212B Link to Cell
Do not buy this product. It is cheap plastic and it does not work.
Customer service is farmed out to India. The only technical service that is given by customer service is for you to plug it into another phone jack or every phone jack in your home to get it to work.
There is a 15% restocking fee for returns as well. ...more info - Dropped calls, Doesn't support bluetooth headset
If you have a wall between you and the unit expect many dropped calls. Being one floor below or about 20 feet from the base station it drops about 50% of the calls. Another depressing thing is the lack of ability to use a bluetooth headset. Why add bluetooth to a phone if it isn't fully functional? Other than that the shared phone book and call history are nice features. In short I would only recommend this phone to someone with a small studio apartment that isn't concerned with having full bluetooth functionality....more info - Great Idea - Terrible Execution
I wanted this phone to work - and even went through an exchange / replacement process when it didn't. But simply put, it will drop your calls - both landline and cell. It just doesn't work, and will be an endless source of frustration for you and the people you call....more info - Does what it says but very poorly
This phone does provide bluetooth connectivity with cell phones and it does provide marginally greater range than other cordless phones I've tried. Reliability, however, is very poor. I've had many dropped calls and often find any given handset having no connection to the base unit both when receiving and when trying to make calls. Often calls come in either through the landline or cell phone and while the phone rings and Caller ID works, all you get when you pick up is a series of beeps. The technology just isn't there in this product. ...more info - Great reception & sound; easy to use.
 Panasonic KX-TH1212B Link-to-Cell Expandable Bluetooth-Enabled DECT 6.0 Phone System with 2 Handsets
Have had no issues so far with this product. Very convenient....more info - Perfect for our home
After seeing a product like this in Popular Science, we waited for months for this idea to come out in the market. When they finally did, we purchased this product and have had it for about 2 weeks. We are EXTREMELY HAPPY with it and it is working beautifully. We do not have a home phone line and we (2 people) use our cell phones as home phones. This product connects seamlessly. The bluetooth has great range for picking up a Motorola Q from anywhere in the house (even in the garage and downstairs and it picks up a Blackberry Q well too. Each cell phone can have a different ring so we know who's phone is being called. We have it set on a setting that announces the Caller ID. So when a friend calls that is listed in the phone directory, it announces the call (in addition to ringing) on the second ring. ex: "Ring-"TODD CELL"-Ring." If it is not programmed, "Ring-Seven-One-Four..." Only downside is that your phone directory is not transferred to the Panasonic. So if you haven't added people to the Panasonic's directory, the name does not come up and only the phone number. Solution, either memorize phone numbers or add all the names to the directory. Other people mention that when someone is on the phone, you can't use it for another line...solution: use the actual cell phone. Great product, highly recommend....more info - Love the convience
Love being able to let my cell phone down when I get home and just answer this phone whether its my land line or my cell number coming in through the Bluetooth connection. Works pretty well. ...more info - Clearly first generation, but oh so cool
This technology is clearly a first generation product, but it works quite well even in spite of that. The idea is great, and even in the first implementation it works well enough for me. I don't use the land-line feature, so I have no idea how that works though. To be fair, just having a cell phone ringer I can hear throughout the house is worth the price of admission.
The positives are:
* Linking with your cell phone is trivial. I use an iPhone 3G and the setup works great.
* The handsets get caller ID, which my Bluetooth in the car does not.
* Voice quality is great on the handsets, and the range is very good as well.
* The any-button answer on the handsets is very convenient.
* The Bluetooth range is spectacular. I've had the cell phone associate in the garage, a good 25 meters away from the base station.
Negatives
* Sometimes the phone has a hard time re-associating with the base station when it comes back into range. Some phones have much worse Bluetooth stacks than others so this is something I have seen with lots of Bluetooth devices and phones. I'm inclined to think that this problem may be partly Apple's fault and not entirely Panasonic's to fix, but it is annoying nevertheless. If you run into it I found that going into the Bluetooth settings for the phone eventually fixes it, and that moving repeatedly in and out of range of the base station may be the cause. If you get one of these, and you have an iPhone, get in the habit of checking the little Bluetooth icon on the phone to make sure it is associated.
* The other party to the conversation stops hearing me long before I stop hearing them. Taking a handset about 20-25 meters from the base station I can still hear them, but they don't hear me.
* When you answer or place a call on the cell phone it takes a few seconds after the call connects before you actually can hear the other party. This is a bit annoying. I have had that happen with Bluetooth headsets in the past - you answer but it takes 5 seconds or so before there is actually a live connection between the phone and the headset. That happens with the Panasonic unit as well, but I've never had it happen with the mobile phone itself while associated to a Bluetooth handsfree device.
Still, I'd buy this again. It's well worth the money and just canceling my land-line pays for the entire setup in three months. ...more info - Would be ok if it worked
I was somewhat happy for about a day. Hooked up my wife's razor and my blackberry. No more running around the house looking for the ringing cell phone. The connection stayed clear where my old 2.4GHz was unusable from the interference. Talking caller id is pretty cool when you are in the habit of screening calls from annoying acquaintances and relatives. It mispronounces some words but that just ads to the cuteness. Another good feature is the use of standard AAA rechargeable batteries. Batteries are the first thing to go in a cordless and proprietary ones are pretty expensive to replace. Now, I said I was `somewhat happy' because the phone looks cheesy with shiny silver plastic buttons which are too small and poorly placed to be comfortable. Menu navigation is terrible too. But all these ergonomic shortcomings could be overlooked in the name of the Bluetooth link.
Then, I started getting the 'No link to base' problem (it has nothing to do with loose power cord as some reviewer states). Connection dropped three times in the span of 5 mins constitutes 'does not work' to me. I used somewhat different expletives at the time. Also, my blackberry would not connect from the next day on. Tried re-registering but no luck. My wife's razor stayed sort of connected but sometimes the Panasonic would not ring on the incoming call. The cell, however, still thought that it was connected so you could not even answer the call there. Never happens with the Bluetooth headset so doubt it's the razor's problem....more info - Panasonic KX-TH1212B
The Panasonic KX-TH1212B Telephone System was easy for me to set up after first reading and following the included instructions. Most people should be able to install and set up this system if they follow the instructions. I liked the feature where you only had to program one handset for your Address Book and any other handsets you have will automatically be programed when they are set to operate with this system. It was also easy to set up the Cell Phone feature and likewise your Address Book will automatically work with it once it is set to work with this system. Bottom line, it works as expected with no problems....more info - Don't Buy - It links to very few phones
I went to the Panasonic site listed in the Owner's Manual
only to find this phone links to about 6 phones.
WHAT IS THE POINT ????
It should be called 'BLUE TOOTH DISABLED' ...more info - phone with perfect features, but doesn't work
This is the phone I have been waiting for and almost had all the features I wanted: Cellphone link and DECT technology. Unfortunately, there's a severe problem with this phone that it randomly looses connectivity with the base and drops the calls. I see others have also encountered similar problems.
I hope Panasonic fixes this issue and then makes it known that it's fixed so that I can buy the phone again.
One thing that is annoying is that either one of the cellphones or the main line can be used. I wish it would allow simultaneous use of the cellphones with the main line.
Additionally, I hope they make it a 2-Line phone as well....more info - Wanted it to work ... but it did not
I really wanted this to work.
I checked to make sure the IPhone was supported and it was.
The phone had no issued pairing.
When a call came in and I answered it the person on the other end just heard a tone and after 3 seconds the line hung up.
I an now going to try the "Dect 6.0 Cell Fusion Caller Id 2HS"
I hope it works better.
Update: We ordered the "Dect 6.0 Cell Fusion Caller Id 2HS"
We liked the technology of using the home phone make / receive our cell phone calls. Originally we started with the "Panasonic KX-TH1212 DECT 6.0 Expandable Bluetooth Cell Link Convergence Telephone System" with no such luck.
I tested this out today with the IPhone and success (after the 16 hour required charge time).
The range of the bluetooth (cell to base) started to cut out at about 30 ft. or so. That's good enough if my wife leaves her cell in her purse. The bluetooth can be set to look for the cell phone bluetooth but the default is 1 min so we did not change it.
The set up was very easy. No need to open any instructions. There are little reminders (tiny slips of paper) insisting on a initial 16 hour charge time. If you cant wait (like me) just use the base only for the 16 hour time.
...more info - Has One Important Fatal Flaw!!
This Bluetooth phone system works just great, assuming you receive a good solid cell signal in your house, and position the Base Unit properly. I can take either handset a long way from the Base Unit and make or receive calls just fine.
But the deal breaker is this: The handsets will only 'handle' landline voice mail, not cell phone VM. That's crazy. I have to rely on my cell phone to 'beep' indicating voice mail, then I have to unplug the cell's charger and dial *86 on it to retreive message.
I can't even dial *86 (or my cell phone number) using a Panasonic handset or I'll get a busy signal.
This is way more trouble than it's worth. I'm returning it and trying an AT&T Bluetooth phone I guess! It's too bad, because otherwise the Panasonic is solid. I can't believe Panasonic didn't make this phone more "Cell Bluetooth" friendly!!...more info - You just have to find the SweetSpot
I've owned this phone for around 2 months now and like others had problems with conversations cutting out and dropped calls because of lost contact with base unit. It tells you in the instructions to find a place it will work and everything is OK, after several tries mine just happened to be on a wall above a picture frame almost at ceiling height.
Last place I would ever imagine putting a phone base but it works perfect there, no problems at all, and I just run the cord behind the picture so it doesn't show bad. I did find out the worst places to put the base was anywhere near an electrical devise, such as a lamp or TV and when I say anywhere near I mean like 3 feet.
It seems Panasonic made this with a weak antenna and the higher up you put it the better reception is, maybe they will correct the problems in the next product.
All the features this phone has is great, positioning it is a pain but if you have the patience it turns out to be a pretty good phone.
I think we will see more phones of this type coming out as more people dump their $75 a month Landline service in favor of cellphone only....more info - Great system
I have had this product for about 4 weeks, and am very happy with it thus far. The issues discussed in earlier reviews have not been a problem for me.
Currently, I am using this with 2 cell phones. The system automatically links to the phones as soon as you walk into the house. Great features include: intercom, speaker phone, many different ringers to program with each cell phone, talking caller ID, and ease of use.
The only complaint I have with this system is only being able to carry on one cell phone conversation at a time....more info - Good Idea Gone BAD
Before you THINK about buying this Panasonic KX-TH1211 Link-to-Cell phone:
A) Read the other reviews
B) Check to see if your phone is supported (it probably isn't) at [...] There's a link at the bottom of that page. The list of phones supported is shocking short.
I did get the KX-TH1211 to work with my Blackberry Curve 8310. It receives calls just fine. The sound quality is good. But I still can't get the KX-TH1211 to let me dial an outgoing call from from the Panasonic handset.
My primary phone is a Palm Treo 750, which is not on the list.
The KX-TH1211 is an embarrassment to the Panasonic brand.
Panasonic KX-TH1211 DECT expandable cordless phone system with Bluetooth? link for cell phones
...more info - Constantly drops calls between handset and base
When the first version of this product came out I quickly purchased it because I was looking for a way to use my cell phone through my home phone units. The reliability of the Bluetooth connection between my cell phones and the Panasonic phone was extremely poor. When I saw this new unit become available I decided to give it another try. The first dropped call occurred within a week of purchase. This unit did work with Bluetooth better than the previous model in that I could use it for conference calls and it would transmit the key tones for pin codes. However, it would continue to drop about every three or four calls. I finally gave up on the Bluetooth and purchased a landline so that I could just use the phone unit for landline calls. After two minutes into the second landline call, the handset dropped the call and displayed the same error message regarding losing a connection to the base.
After this I called Panasonic support, since the first thing you read on the instruction manual says to please call support before returning this device. The support was subpar. I was transferred four times and had to repeat the phones model number three times. After about 40 minutes into the call I was instructed to move the base to a different location. Needless to say this was my last purchase of a Panasonic product. If you want a quality phone go with Phillips or GE.
...more info - Great Phone, Bad Rap
I purchased this phone against all bad reviews and I could not be more happy with this product. What can I say. I am writing this review in an effort to balance the reviews here. I have been using the phone for almost two months now. This phone has NEVER dropped a single phone call either cell or my Landline (actually Vonage). Generally, the base links to my Cell Phone in the carport within a minute of driving up. Most times before I enter the house.
I have noticed the farther away the cell is from the base, the worse the cellphone quality is during conversations, then again, it is bluetooth and while the connect range is greater, usefullness is a good deal less. As long as your cell phone is sitting next to the base I can walk all around the house, and even out in the yard with no quality loss.
I can not speak for all of the bad reviews here, however, I purchased a refurbished unit specifically. I have had great results in past Panasonic refurbished units. In my opinion, refurbs are quality checked BEFORE leaving out. Store bought units "new" are not. They are not individually checked and thus, I believe you get some bad apples.
Please do not take the 40 bad reviews as typical. Thousands of these units are sold around the country, and you have here a "small" percentage of problems. I do recommend if you purchase one, get a refurb unit since the value is better, and you get a unit that has already checked out as being good......and they come with a three month warranty. Still I hedged my bet and purchased a three year warranty from Square Trade.com Just in case. Looks like I will not need it anytime soon....more info
