Customer Reviews:

  • Good ol' G Shock
Mannn, I had one of these in High School. Now I'm 39 and an exec. Many compliments on this great looking G shock. I chose it for it's professional look -- plus, c'mon, it's a G Shock. Comfortable. I have to read up on all the features, but the ones I've used so far (timer, stopwatch, alarm, multi-time zone) are quite intuitive. And hats off to Amazon for offering the least expensive price. They blew out the competition. If you buy one, YOU WILL NOT REGRET. It's a watch you can wear from the bedroom to the boardroom!!! ...more info
  • Perfect timekeeping and typical excellent Casio quality.
I received this watch on October 31, 2003. That's nearly 3 years ago now. It's still working perfectly and I've put it through Hell. I ride ATV's, jetski's, and I never take this watch off. I've worn it EVERY day since the day I bought it. I only ran the battery low on it once, and that was due to leaving the auto light on. I turned that feature off and within a week the battery was up to full again.

I did nearly ruin the face of it because I wore it during a large floor tiling job and I got grout all over the watch. It dried on the face of the watch as well as parts of the band. In trying to scrape the grout off I did manage to scratch up the face pretty good. This was totally my fault though and I certainly can't complain in how well the watch held up to this horrible treatment.

This Casio has been such an excellent watch, I'm contemplating buying another one to replace this one just because of the scratched face. It's a true testament to how good a product is that after 3 years I want to replace it with the exact same thing.

Now for a neat true story. I met a man wearing one of these exact Casio's a few months ago. Since we both were wearing the same watch, we got to talking about watches and it turns out he was a collector. He had Rolex's, Breitlings, Tag Heuer's, and many other expensive watches. I then remarked that I found it funny that even though he had watches worth over $10,000 to choose from, he was wearing a Casio. He laughed and said "Well, this Casio is easily the best watch out of all of them. It's the most rugged and because of the Atomic feature, keeps the best time. This Casio is my favorite out of the literally hundred or so watches I own." True story.

Why did I only give this watch 4 stars? It doesn't have a countdown timer. Other than that, the watch is literally a perfect product.

  • Be Warned
The manual that came with the watch addresses 3 distinct models and doesn't cover any model adequately. The metal wrist band accomodates linebackers and there is very minimal adjustment. I need to remove some links from the band but there no instructions for removing links. I called Casio three days ago and they are going to email instructions but have not received them. The solar recharging capability seem like a good idea but I finally had to take mine outside and put it in direct sunlight for several hours to fully charge. The charge state indicator is not intuitive. It is a dial with different sections filled to show the charge state. You would think when fully charged the indicator would be completely filled in but instead different sections are darkened to indicate charge levels.
Be prepared for a lot of reading and rereading to learn the functionality of this watch. ...more info
  • Excellent watch!
I have previously owned a Casio solar G-shock (and it is still running today six years later) and was looking for a digital watch again but I wanted a little bling factor. This watch has the bling and the chunky look that I wanted and so much more! You literally never have to touch it, meaning no battery costs or hassles and no setting the thing. I live on the east coast of Central Florida and receive the atomic signal from Colorado every morning at 5am. I have an analog Festina watch that I love but this new watch has replaced it. As usual Amazon was excellent and the free shipping got it to me in 3 days! Definitely buy this watch!

  • Better than expected
I really love this watch. I have had a G-Lide watch for years and decided to get a new watch because the G-Lide was so ugly. I was really hooked on some of the features of the G-Shocks and I wanted something that I could wear anywhere, anytime. I decided on the MTG930 because it looks good and has newer features that I love.

    Features I had to have:
1 - A very durable digital watch - I am a firefighter-EMT and I am into many different extreme sports so durability was the main issue and why I first used the G-Shock.
2 - It had to have the time-date-day of week always on so I don't have to search for it. This ruled out the the GW6*0a watches which I think are more aesthetically pleasing. If casio is watching, please combine the features of the GW930da and the looks of the GW6*0a on a future watch.
3 - It had to have alarms
4 - It had to have an easy to use illumination light. I like the G-Shocks because the button is on the face of the watch which is easy to find in the middle of the night.

Features of this new watch that I love and have to have from now on:
1 - Atomic time keeping. This rules. I was always syncing my watch with the atomic clock website because I want to know the exact time all of the time. Problem fixed. Now I sync all my other clocks to my watch. For some reason, both of my cars have a hard time keeping time.
2 - Rechargeable battery powered by solar light. Great feature, I just hope the battery lasts.
3 - Auto illumination. At first I turned this feature off because I didn't want to wear down the battery. I found it very helpful when working, though. Especially when treating patients trying to get basic information like heart rate when it is too dark to see the watch. It is no longer a three handed operation. I just angle the watch to view, and the light comes on.
4 - Metal band, face plate, and fairly good looking watch.
5 - I haven't used the time recorder, but another reviewer suggested it might be good for keeping time checks when treating patients as an EMT. I will try this out.

    And now, the only flaws:
1 - Still a little too bulky. Much better than my old G-Lide, but still on the bulky side. This is one of the reasons that I would have preferred a GW6 series watch, I believe they aren't as thick.

2 - Would have liked an all metal watch. This watch has Dark Gray and silver pieces of rubber on it. An all metal watch would have been thinner and better looking. I have never seen a GW6 series watch in person, but tt appears to have more metal. Long term aesthetics are another reason I don't like the rubber pieces. They appear to be painted the color, and an ugly gray is what the rubber is actually made of. The paint will probably wear off the rubber pieces.

3 - Would like to see a titanium G-Shock in the future. This watch is heavy, but typical of metal watches. A high tech titanium band would be sweet. Obviously the cost would be higher, but would would be worth it....more info
  • All I can say is: WOW. This watch is worth EVERY penny.
If you are a stickler about time like I am, there are a LOT of reasons why this watch is worth the price. I have gone through plenty of phases in my life where I *required* a specific kind of watch in order to match my mood. If I felt like looking more professional, I put on my Citizen or Chase Durer or Doxa, but as one other reviewer mentioned, I always end up coming back to Casio...why? That is an easy answer: Quality, durability and great looks. In a nutshell, the Casio G-Shock has it ALL.

Sure, the average G-Shock watch, no matter HOW doctored up will never truly be considered as formal as Bulova, Seiko or Citizen perhaps, but none of those can stand up to the literal abuse you could inflict upon the Casio. Citizen and Seiko also make solar powered watches (kudos to them for doing so), but would you feel comfortable wearing one while hiking, skiiing or using a Jack Hammer? Probably not. I'm not sure if anyone else has ever noticed this, but a friend of mine has sent me several photographs from Iraq during his deployment, and TRUST me, the timepieces our Military wears receives extreme punishment, and you know what? In ALL of the photos my friend has shown me, every watch that can be spotted is a Casio G-Shock. I consider that to be the highest endorsement you can hope to have. Moreover, I have personally owned several different G-Shocks over the years, and each one was built like a freakin' tank and even though I don't put my watches through the punishment a member of the Special Forces might, I have discovered that not all watches are made equal when it comes to sheer durability. I have NEVER found another watch that can withstand as much as my trusty Casio. For this reason I currently have 6 perfectly working Casio watches, 4 of which are G-Shocks.

Some do not feel the *look* of these watches measures up, but in MY opinion they are GREAT looking as well as well-made. The atomic calibrating feature is something else. If you are like me and quite anal about the EXACT correct time, you simply cannot ask for a more appropriate timepiece. My first introduction to a G-Shock watch was when a friend of mine bought one and attempted to purposely destroy it simply to prove that it wasn't as tough as everyone was led to believe (I still have no idea why he began this experiment). This turned out to be a much more difficult task then he at first believed it would be. I found him one day throwing it as hard as he could into his own concrete driveway, and my initial reaction was, 'What in the WORLD are you DOING??' He told me, and then continued to proceed to punish his watch. In the 25-30 impacts into the driveway I personally witnessed, not once did it stop. In case you were interested, he finally succeeded, but not until he drove over it with his pickup -- for the 6th time (the first 5 attempts failed). That was all I needed to see. My mind has been made up ever since. I have owned plenty of timepieces over the years, and the quality and long-lasting durability of ALL my Casio's have cemented my opinion of how buying one is money well spent.

Never buy batteries again...never have to worry about whether or not you have the CORRECT time again...and never worry that what you are doing could damage your watch ever again. In short: the G-Shock atomic solar powered watches from Casio really ARE worth EVERY penny. HIGHLY recommended....more info
  • Great watch
It was a little complex to set up, as the manual is for several models, and it took some looking to find the right model. But the timekeeping is very acurate, thanks to the automatic syncronization, and even wearing it under long sleeve shirts, the solar powered recharger is very efficient. Unfortunately, being in Maine, I'm just on the edge of range from Fort Collins, so it doesn't update to and from Daylight Savings Time, but this is easily accomplished manually....more info

The atomic update doesn't working in Europe!! :-(...more info
  • Great Watch
I'll keep it simple here: this is the best everyday watch I have ever owned. I was hesitant about buying this watch for two reasons, 1) I didn't know how well the solar system would work and wasn't looking forward to having my watch "die" frequently, and 2) I didn't know how well the atomic time-setting feature would work.

They both work extremely well. When I received the watch (about 1.5 years ago) the "fuel gauge" was on "low." I charged the watch by letting it sit in a window for about 15 minutes. Since that time, the gauge has never been below "high", and I've never had to put it near a light source to charge it. It charges itself very well in normal indoor or outdoor lighting. The solar aspect is awesome.

The atomic function works well too. With very rare exceptions, the watch sets itself every night from my home in Seattle. It has also worked in other places around the country quite well. Sometimes in hotels it won't set, but I think that has to do with steel framing that interferes with the signal.

Even when I have been in Europe and Cancun for a couple weeks, the watch maintains great accuracy even when unable to reset itself. And the world time function makes setting the watch to a new time zone very easy. It also works well just to check what time it is in other places around the world.

    I highy recommend it....more info

  • Review of Casio G-Shock MT-G
It is finally nice to have a watch that matches my radio-controlled clock at home! I can now use my Casio to adjust clocks in my car, home, and my mechanical watches. The watch is light, given its' size. I did wear this watch ATV riding and kayaking in Mexico, and it held up fine, as I expected it would. The watch receives atomic time every night from my bedroom in California. It can even receive manually during the day, away from any windows!

My only criticisms are hard to read display in some lighting situations, and the recessed buttons are hard to activate. The case material is practically bullet proof, but I've heard described as being "cartoonish", which I agree with. The display is highly cluttered, with so much available functionality.

Update: If you want a classical G-Shock with easy to read dial, consider getting the GW-5600, which is also radio controlled and solar.

  • This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with!!!
I bought the Black metal Atomic Solar G-shock watch from Leisure Pro. After reading the glowing reviews on Amazon, list price $200.00. After two months the watch stop working. When I took it to my local Casio dealer I was told that they don't fix Casio watches but send them back to the manufacturer. I was told the same thing by Leisure Pro. After paying for postage to send the watch to Casio I received a replacement watch. This time the watch only lasted for six weeks before it stopped working, the exact same problem as the first watch the face goes blank. I called Casio repair center at 1-800-706-2534. I was told they were sorry and would arrange for the watch to be pick-up the next day and they would pay the postage. I stayed home the next day and nobody showed. I stayed home the second day and nobody pick-up the watch. I called Casio again and again was told that they were sorry and that a pick-up would be made the following day. You guessed it nobody showed up the following day. This time when I called Casio I ask for a supervisor and after two days of calling and leaving messages on her answering machine I finally got a supervisor who assured me they will pick-up the watch the next day. Needless to say it is now six o'clock PM as I write this and no one has yet pick-up the watch. This is my first Casio product and you can be sure it will be my last; I had been considering a Casio digital camera but not now. I never want to see another Casio product....more info
