  • AT&T DECT 6.0 Phone System
The phone system is easy to program and easy to use. The features(e.g., backlighted keypad, speaker)are impressive, the voice/sound quality is excellent, and the low price provides a high value product....more info
  • Fine cordless phone
I have only had this cordless phone system for a week, so it is too soon to comment on its durability; but I am extremely happy with its operational quality and functionality. It is an "AT&T" phone which actually means it is a VTech product for which VTech has licenced the AT&T brand name. I wanted a phone where the main unit/answering machine was wall mountable so that eliminated DECT 6.0 phones by manufacturers such as Panasonic. This system was very easy to set up. The directions were quite clear and easy to follow. The base is originally set up for being on a table, but converting to wall mount is quick and easy. The answering machine messages are crisp and clear. The quality of voice calls seems to me to be on a par with corded phones, no static, no backround noise, no degradation. Setting up and navigating through the phone directory was a breeze. The only minor design problem for me is the location of the up/down volume toggle. It is on the side of the phone right near where you would be holding the phone, so you might inadvertantly change the volume level because you accidentally pressed the volume control. A very minor point, but the volume control would have been better off on the front of the phone. One other thing to be aware of. If you answer the phone from a phone that is not part of the cordless system (I still have two old corded phones in use), your call log will show those phone calls as "missed calls" since the cordless system has no way of knowing you answered those calls. This is not a complaint, just something to be aware of. I'm sure this is a technical limitation of all caller ID cordless systems. Bottom line: very good product, excellent range of both ringer and phone volumes, nice sized display, very clear voice quality, very functional....more info
  • Effective, economical and expandable - great product!
This is just the best cordless telephone system I have ever had - better range, easier to use and program, excellent call quality. (As a onetime worldwide troubleshooter and installer of air traffic control and communications systems, I am very much a stickler and "picky" about electronics and comm systems; my wife says I am very hard to please on these issues.)

After a full charge, they were fully ready to use, truly plug 'n' play - and no interference at all with / from my WiFi network, and perfect for my digital telephone service from SureWest (shared with high speed internet access and digital TV on their excellent fiber optic system.) The base can be wall-mounted or merely placed on a horizontal, flat surface. I've not experienced any dropouts or signal attenuation in and in the immediate vicinity of my house, and voice clarity is superb, with no spurious noise.

The controls and commands are logical and easy to execute (and you can choose English, Spanish or French,) and in my case the ringer and voice volumes are quite sufficient. I like the ability to add to the directory from any handset, though only the base unit itself needs to be connected to the actual telephone line. Other highlights are great battery times and lightness - consumer tests show many prefer heavy-feeling equipment because we associate "solidity" with quality, but that resulted in some manufacturers adding useless dead weight for "touch and feel" - none of that here, the handsets are light, lighted and readable, and the illuminated buttons are easy to use even with my large hands. I have used a headset plugged into a handset for conference calls, and again, it works flawlessly. The "record" feature is handy to record product specifications or details from a client or caller.

The easy path to expandability to an amazing 12 handsets means this set can be used in a very large house, and the system also works as an intercom. If there is any downside at all, the system does not have a privacy feature - you can not block all other handsets from listening in to a call, so if eavesdropping is a problem in your house, wait for a system with privacy features from AT&T Inc. (remember, SBC Communications purchased several "baby Bells," Ameritech, AT&T Corporation and the name, so technically it is not really the old AT&T Corp. we think of when we see the initials,) or spend for one of the few systems that allow handset blocking.

What I would like on the next iteration of this phone: more than 50 allowable directory entries, and longer than the available fourteen minutes for voicemail recording - perhaps an expansion memory possibility using a Micro-SD memory card or the like. As others have said, I would like to program in a handset name, not merely see a default number, e.g "office," "bedroom" and etc. (Of course this all brings it to the realm of a professional, not home, system, but I can dream.)

Yes, I am picky - nonetheless, after a month's use, I love this phone system, and as stated, it is the best performing home cordless system I have had, and the most expandable as well. I have rated five stars because the system is heads above the others (and I have had several cordless systems from different manufacturers, including Panasonic and Siemens over the years.) ...more info
  • Overall I rated a Good!
Overall it's a good phone but I have a couple of things that I find annoying.

1- For my tastes the handsets are a little too slim and light in weight, but this is just my personal taste. They seem to fly out of hands!!
2- -Inability to access answering machine messages via handsets. I loved this function in my old Panasonic.
3- Some of the function keys hard to see in a dim setting.

    What I love:

1- Conference calling with multiple hand sets.
2- Caller ID and Backlit keys.
3- Very good sound volume.. even with speaker phone..

Sorry, but I loved the old Panasonic better.

  • DECT 6.0 not as interference free as they claim
these are very pretty phones, but they couldn't handle a tiny NYC apartment without making all of us sound like we were underwater and cutting out in one room just 15 feet away from the base.

We had the same problem with the DECT 6.0 Panasonic phones.

If you are struggling too, go back to the 5.8 Ghz technology. It is fantastic in every corner of our digs, and pays no heed at all to our wireless router.

btw, panasonic had better features. In NY you need to dial 1-212 even for local calls. AT&T has you set that feature for every call back every time you grab a number off of the caller id. Panasonic remembers the setting after you tell it once.

AT&T phones also do not let you collect your messages from the handsets

so pretty phones, missing I think critical features and 6.0 just isn't for everyone.

I'll give this phone 3 stars because for anyone without problems caused by the new technology, they are nice phones. But for those of you who have had issues with any other DECT phone, it is safe to assume it is the tech, not the brand.

Good Luck. We are so happy to be done with telephone hell. ...more info
  • Good product
Product was exactly what is was advertised to be.
Ring is a little to low though. i was used to it being louder. With three small children you need a good, loud ringer!
I like that I can call another handset. I've been utilizing this when I need to get my husband upstairs for dinner.
    Overall, very satisfied. ...more info

  • Double duty
I purchased this handset and maxed out the number of additional handsets for a total of 12. I placed them strategically through out our home. We use the phones to receive/make calls as well as an intercom system. This double duty makes life so much easier for us. The handsets were easy to set up, voice quality is clear, the display screen is easily viewable, and it is easy to hold....more info

  • Definity an improvement over 5.8.GHz technology
The AT&T SL82318 Dect 6.0 Handset System definitely represents a significant improvement over 5.8GHz technology. My previous 5.8GHz worked well but not as good as this system.

Sound quality to include clarity and volume is excellent and it remains that way for extended ranges. I have used these handsets often from more than 100 feet from the base unit with perfect results. My guess is that these ranges can be exceeded with no problem.

Interference is not an issue as my computer and various other wireless devices are not affected when these AT&T handset are in use and vice versa.

Lighted keypads are definitely a plus and a must and the keys are large enough that entering a number is not a problem even with large fingers.

Speakerphones, which are integrated into each handset, operate clearly and with more than enough volume. You can also stand several feet away from the handset and the microphone picks up your voice so that you can still easily converse with your caller.

Battery life is definitely a plus. I have not really "tested" its capabilities. However, I can tell you that, on several consecutive occasions, I have talked for extended periods of time (2 hours or more) and left the handset out of the charger for a day or so and have used it again for extended periods without any issues.

Bottom line, it is an excellent system. You won't be disappointed if you purchase it....more info
  • Very intuitive to use
Easy to install and use. Works more like a cell phone so you don't need to re-learn how to make calls. For example, you can pre-dial and then press the green button to make the call, press the red button to hang up, etc. You can also use it like a regular phone where you get a dial tone first, then dial. With this system's 3 portable phones, I was able to eliminate 2 old plug-in phones and their DSL filters....more info
  • AT&T Phone System
I've had this system a few weeks now, and am generally pleased with it. The handsets are sleek and each one has a speaker. The answering machine works great, and everything was easy to program.

There are two drawbacks that are slightly annoying. One is that the volume of the voice seems low even at the highest level. The phones don't have a very loud ring, either. The other is that there are no speed dial buttons. The system programs your favorite phone numbers the way it chooses, not you, and there is no quick way to locate your number.

The service from Amazon was, as usual, quick and effecient!!...more info
  • Love it
I have had no issues with this phone system. I have one in the living room, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. I like the option to have different ringers on each handset. It looks awesome and works as I expected....more info
  • Absolutely love it
I LOVE these new phones. They are such an improvement on the VTECH crap we've been using the last 2 years (HORRIBLE batteries, completely dead after 2 years). The range is wonderful, sound quality crystal clear, easy to use all the special features, the list could go on. I highly recommend these phones....more info
  • Excellent, easy to use

  • Excellent Cordless Phone!!!
I spent many hours reading reviews searching for a new cordless phone. I selected the AT&T SL82318 from Amazon. I have had it for a few months and I am very pleased with it. Long range, long battery life, and very clear reception. My old phone was a Panasonic. The numders wore off on the rubber keys making it useless. The AT&T phone solved this problem by covering the nuber on the key pad with a clear plastic cover on each key. The blue baclight makes the display and keys easy to read. The hanset has all the information you could ask for: call directory, missed call log, and a variety of settigs. The phone is easy to use and program. The base unit has a convenient large LED readout which tells you how many messages are recorded. Very nice feature!

I would recommend this phone based upon my experience....more info

  • Very satisfied
Bought to replace an old/dead answering machine and an assortment of wired and cordless phones showing their age also. I generally use Consumer Reports for critique of needed features and test results - and weigh this vs. price/performance. This is a good choice. Have now added an additional 3 units....more info
