Product Description
After creating a gadget/fashion icon in the original MOTORAZR, Motorola has upped the ante with the new RAZR2 V9 with cutting edge technology and enhanced features that make it even easier to use. Offered via AT&T, the RAZR2 V9 offers super-fast downloads and multimedia streaming via AT&T's 3G HSDPA/UMTS network. It's fully loaded with an arsenal of digital tools, including a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth connectivity for streaming music and photo printing, MicroSD memory card expansion, dual color LCD screens, e-mail access, digital audio player, and full duplex speakerphone. And speaking of cutting edge, the phone's stainless steel internal frame and cast aluminum housing support makes the RAZR2 V9 stronger and more durable than its predecessor.
Sleeker, smarter, stronger: the RAZR2 V9 boasts a durable stainless steel frame and chemically hardened glass displays. | AT&T Service The RAZR2 V9 can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses HSDPA/UMTS technology (High Speed Downlink Packet Access/Universal Mobile Telephone System), making it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless services with speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. It also gives AT&T the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. It also features AT&T Mobile Music, which provides access to the Napster subscription music as well as Music ID song-recognition software, music videos and The Buzz music news portal. The handset is MobiTV and XM Radio Mobile-capable, so you can enjoy streaming live TV and digital radio all in one device. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing AT&T's Internet, video, and music services.) With its quad-band connectivity, this phone communicates over GSM/GPRS networks and AT&T offers voice roaming in more than 190 countries and data roaming in more than 130 countries. Phone Features Designed to be even sharper than before, the RAZR2 V9 shaves two millimeters from the original MOTORAZR. Its one-piece housing has no parting lines (meaning fewer chances of break points) and the cast aluminum hinge underwent more than 100,000 lab tests to ensure durability. Even the exterior camera lens is stronger, as it is made with chemically hardened glass. Despite its slimmer profile, the RAZR2 V9 offers enhanced dual screens that make the phone seem larger. The 2.2-inch internal screen offers twice the resolution of the original MOTORAZR while the 2-inch external screen is great for checking caller photo ID, easily reading incoming text messages, and controlling music playback through onscreen controls. Other Motorola-engineered enhancements include: - Upgraded Interface: With the redesigned, more intelligent interface, you'll be able to search for contacts faster and avoid duplicate entries for the same person while allowing contacts to have multiple numbers. The customizable main menu means you're never more than 2 to 3 clicks away from your favorite applications. And text messaging is easier, with the V9 recognizing what type of message you are sending.
- CrystalTalk Technology: This innovative feature automatically accounts for background noise during a call and adjusts the audio quality based on ambient noise conditions to provide the optimal conversational experience. CrystalTalk also reduces the volume of the background noise picked up by the microphone during a call, making it possible to be more easily heard over the phone while in a noisy environment.
- Talk to Me: Originally designed to address the needs of those with vision impairment, the RAZR2 V9 is able to read the phone's interactive menus, contacts, messages and more aloud--adding convenience to your on-the-go lifestyle. SMS messages on the phone can be read and replied to with pre-programmed text messages without ever having to open up the flip.
- Haptics: Motorola has incorporated breakthrough haptics technology--an interface that creates tactile feedback--that provides vibrating feedback in response to your finger taps. When combined with the virtual music keys, the haptics technology helps you to effortlessly control music playback.
The 2-megapixel camera includes an 8x digital zoom and it can automatically snap up to eight new pictures--letting you choose the best image from a complete series of pictures. You can even print photos wirelessly to a Bluetooth-compatible printer with just a few menu selections. It provides four resolution choices (from 320 x 240 to 1600 x 1200 pixels) and also features a self-timer, free memory space indicator, color effects, night mode for low-light shots, and five shutter sounds (with a silent mode). The RAZR2 V9 is also an impressive video camcorder, providing up to QCIF resolution (176 x 144 pixels). It also gives you the option of choosing the video format, which offers different frame rates--25 fps for MPEG and H263 and 15 fps for WMV and Real. You can record video for as long as you have available space on your MicroSD memory card.
Control music playback with the virtual digital audio player buttons on the V9's external screen, which includes tactile feedback. | With up to 2 GB of storage (via optional MicroSD memory card), the RAZR2 V9 can store up to 1000 of your favorite songs. It offers compatibility with Microsoft Windows Media Player 11, enabling easy synchronization and transfer between phone and PC. You'll be able to modify music playback with the flip closed thanks to the virtual contextual music controls that appear on the external screen. And you can keep playing music even while surfing the web, sending text messages, or even using the camera. This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. The RAZR2 V9 features a full HTML browser (Opera 8.5) that takes advantage of high-speed wireless data connections for faster, bigger and richer web surfing experience. Built-in e-mail functionality (POP/IMAP/SMTP) combined with MobileSync software provides easy, PC-like access to both personal and corporate e-mail accounts and calendars. Other features include: - 45 MB internal flash memory
- Up to 1000 contact entries, each with up to six numbers and two email addresses
- Bluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate) with profiles for communication headsets, handsfree, stereo music streaming, audio/video remote control, printing, dial-up networking, and file transfer
- USB 2.0 wired connectivity, with mass storage capability
- Includes Bowling3D and Diner Dash games, with more downloadable via AT&T
- Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones
- Voice command and dialing, as well as ability to record voice memos
- PIM functions including calendar, calculator, alarm clock, and world clock
Vital Statistics The RAZR2 V9 weighs 4.41 ounces and measures 4.06 x 2.09 x 0.53 inches. Its 950 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3 hours of talk time, and up to 295 hours of digital standby time. Customer Reviews: - Phone has a few flaws
I purchased my razr2 less than a year ago (about 8 months to be exact)and I LOVED it when I first purchased it. Now that I have been using it for a while I have started to hate it. It has so many dropped calls it is ridiculous, and not only does the phone drop the call, it also turns itself off so that you have to turn it back on, wait for it to reload and then call the person back. I have also noticed that even though i have never exposed my phone to any kind of moisture or water, the dot on the back of the phone has started changing color as it would if it had been exposed to water damage... The battery life on this phone is a complete joke! I hate the fact that if you are on a call, and press the speaker phone button, you cannot close the phone and stay on the call.. if you close the phone it will hang up, even if speaker phone is active (which is a step down from the original razr, on it you could close the phone and still talk) this also reduces battery life. AT&T would not insure the phone when i originally purchased it, not sure if they offer insurance on it now, but either way i cannot get insurance b/c i've had it for 8 months. If I could go back to when I purchased this phone, I would not purchase it and get an original razr instead....more info - Love it!
I leaned towards this phone because I loved Motorola's first flip, way back when. Sturdy as hell & easy to use. I selected this phone...great color & size and feel. After using it a bit & discovering the USB adapter & mini adapter, head phone connector (All thru ATT) I thought, what an awesome gem!! Then 6 months later circumstances changed & I needed something I could connect to my work calendar but I didn't want one of the Palms......thru research I accidentally discovered I could keep my new phone! Hooks up with MS Outlook no prob..I can even use it as a jump drive if I wanted to. Although you are limited with the size of cards but that will change with time...they will get smaller too. I have had the phone for about a year & am still in love with it.....and I hated the Razr V3 in 6 months. The only downfall I found is I don't like the multi-listing in its address book. it is 9 listing for one name....so it dials the last number you called....you have to search thru the numbers under the name - I solved that by doing what I did on the old Razr, listing each "Brad's work" and "Brad's cel" to cut down on the searching. However it does have a voice dialing option I haven't been able to utilize so maybe that is where it comes into play - which makes sense. The screen is also wonderful - pictures come in great as well. And wayyyyyy too much more to list!!
I have to say Motorola landed an Awesome phone with this one. Or at least it certainly fits my needs.
Moto, I am sticking with you!!
...more info - Great phone
 Pro:
* Very solid feeling, on a little bit heavy side, though I like it.
* Screen is very bright and clear
* Very fast, I believe it's due to the 500MHz process, vs. the 250 something for the Razr2 V9m (Verizon)
* Calling quality is great, if it works. :)
* 3G is fast, though this is a gift, or a curse, it drains the battery MUCH faster than without 3G
* Picture quality under bright day light is pretty good
* Bluetooth works well, and voice recognition also works well, you can simply say the number and it will dial it for you.
Con:
* If use 3G, then battery runs out a day or so, daily charge is required.
* The menu buttons for CV and MediaNet are not configurable, it's a ATT phone, so nothing to do with Motorola on this one, though still, wish it's configurable right out of box rather than need to heck it.
* Out side screen cannot show picture slide or video without hecking the phone first, only for music
All in all, for this much money, I would say get one if you are looking for a phone....more info - Terrible customer service at Amazon
I bought the full family plan and this phone ("in stock and ready to ship") and after repeated emails to Amazon got a rep to call me back, 15 minutes on hold (the regular don't call us, we'll call you Amazon way of doing business), and I was informed 10 days later that the phone was not in stock, and that it may take another month or 6 weeks to get it. I could not switch to another phone either, as changing the order is not something Amazon can do. No other option but cancel everything and go somewhere else. Weeks lost......more info - Best Cell Phone I have ever Owned
I absolutely love this cell phone. Its got just about every feature you could ever dream of. For the first time I am able to use a cell phone for just a phone. Its got really great reception (almost always clear) and am able to get a signal just about any where. There were lots of places where I couldnt recieve a signal before with my Motorola v360 and I thought It was my carrier but once I got this phone I havent any problems. Going from no bars to about 5 or 6 bars. The mp3 player is great with touch screen and the fact that you dont have to open the flip to use the mp3 player. Sound quality is also pretty good considering its a cell phone mp3 player. I do wish the mp3 player was able to play protected music especially from iTunes. Also the cameera feature is great since you dont have to open the flip to use it. Dont get me wrong I still prefer my stand alone mp3 player and digital camera but its nice to have these features in a cell phone. The HSDPA is pretty fast and much faster than EDGE which I used to use before this. Also has other great features like a nice video player and handy voice recorder. It also has the full version of the opera web browser which no other mobile device has. The only other better mobile browser is the safari one on the iPhone and iPod touch.Theres only a few negative points about this phone. The battery life is pretty bad but considering its a 3G phone and has all these high end media features it would be expected. Also something I missed from my motorola v360 is that when you use the speakerphone I was able to close the flip and still use it. While with this phone as soon as you close the flip it terminates the call. Another downside of this phone is that it only comes with 8 ring sounds for your ringer. Do wish it came with more regular ring sounds. Update: I used the P2k version 5.04 software with the seem edits and was able to change the setting for the speakerphone when the flip is closed. Also I am able to switch from the 3G to 2G so save battery life and many more features which were locked before. I would suggest trying the seem edits on p2k to tweak the settings to your needs....more info - razor v9
I GOT THIS PHONE ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO THIS IS THE BEST PHONE I EVER HAD I LOVE IT IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY THE RAZOR V9 THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO BUY THIS PHONE FAST SHIPPING & BEST PRICE !!! THANK'S RANDY...more info - In spite of those negative reviews......
I read many reviews of the Moto RAZR2 v9 before purchase, including the negatives. Conclusion: Positive -I like this phone for many reasons. Negative - It is not an Iphone!
Positive: It looks great, sound is fine, display is big and clear, with 2 Gig microSIM, holds plenty of music. Cool that it uses voice dialing of names without recording the names so my whole phone list is available to voice dial. The calendar is much improved over RAZR allowing comment section to include contact info. Unlike other negative reviews, I find the battery is working just fine, listening to hours of music. If you want to listen to music you must buy a stereo headset with microphone - when a call comes in, it pauses the music, receives the call, resumes music on hang up. Since music was a major reason I got this, I like the menus for making playlists, using the front touch screen to pause, fast forward/reverse. Personal taste, I like the color a lot. The photo online is ugly, the phone is beautiful. No choice of color but Oh Well!
Negative: give up on hearing bass tones with the cheap headset with microphone (otherwise callers can't hear you!) Interface software: I already had this software and it is a must!!! Software does not come with the RAZR2. Phone comes with adapters to plug in better headset and larger size connectors like from old RAZR, but these adapters are bulky and not reasonable to carry around sticking out of the side of the phone.
Well I got the phone free thru Amazon with 450 minutes from ATT so I can't complain. Much better than RAZR, but RAZR2v9 can not compete with Iphone. That is comparing brilliant with genius....more info - As expected
I spent a lot of time researching phones before I bought the Razr2. The phone got great reviews and, so far, I have not been disappointed. The only serious con, in my opinion, is the use of a micro USB connector. It would be much better not to have to go through the conversion from mini to micro....more info - Motorola RAZR2 V9 Cell Phone
I ordered this phone, even though it was on back order, and I couldn't be happier. I have had many phones, but I am really amazed at this one. It is a beautiful color and I love the two big screens. I like it because it has some substance to it. Because it has a metal frame it is a little heavier than most, but I prefer that to a really light one. It does show finger prints really easy, but it's nothing that you can't wipe off. I just ordered a silicone "skinit" for it that should take care of the finger prints and I put anti glare screens on it, even though the inside one is glass. You can't be too careful. I have yet to download my music on it, but I have done some pictures and the colors are gorgeous and so clear; better than any phone I have seen. I have a Nikon Cool Pix digital camera and I have to say that this phone takes pictures as good as or better than my camera.
I believe that anyone that is thinking about getting this phone should wait no longer....more info - Excellent
O.K. Most people have reservations about anything that is "new". However, this phone right out of the box impressed me with its hefty size, weight, and color. It appears to be encased in a heavy diecast metal that reminds me of a matchbox car (slick) feel. I know that is a generic description, but it is a fine work of craftmanship. I used to own a Nokia 6120 (old and outdated) and it broke at the hinge joint. This phone feels solid in the mechanics and layout. Keypad looks good also; I don't see it failing on me. (Some people might get defective equipment-some reasons that electronic items break so easily).
The menu selection is nicely laid-out. I didn't have any problems going through and changing all the personal selections, such ringtones, icons, and browsing. Also, the screen is HUGE! It is really nice to see a total package such as this come along, where the keypads are nicely spaced and the screen is beautiful to view in daylight or night.
I only have two complaints (albeit, very small complaints):
It only accepts a 2GB MicroSD card. It would be nice to expand to 4GB.
The charging door on the left side appears very flimsy and easily breakable. However, since it is recessed into the metal frame, it might not be subject to tearing or shearing forces.
That is about it. I find that it does things better and faster than other cell phones out there. I also find it to be more intuitive to use and very stylish to boot! It is definately not a text messaging device, so don't buy it if your a heavy text person. Also, just like the reviews from other people, this phone is light-years ahead of the former Razrs (V3xx or V3). It is better built and easier to use....more info - Great Phone
Great phone! I loved my old RAZR but this one has so much more to offer. I have more signal strength than before. Was easy to use my music for ringtones. Battery life seems fine. I love the integration with my GPS. Cons: None...more info - Good deal!!
Replacement for older Razr that fell in water and finally
after six months stopped working. It has taken a while to get used
to using because of new features and updating. Good phone. Is a
little bigger and weighs a little more. Still like it....more info - WOWSER - this is a gem
I came from a phone that was just a phone - no bells and whistles. THEN, I got this phone as a result of the great price at Amazon.
I haven't been as impressed with a piece of technology since my first Apple IIe. It is a marvel: the camera is fun to use, we now instant message (2 old married folks acting like kids (like), send email, surf the web on our phone (who woulda thought) and generally call and receive calls with a clarity that rivals or exceeds our land line.
I couldn't be happier with this product.
A few comments on the previous reviews:
1. Have not seen battery use as a problem but I do not spend 24 hours each day with the phone in my ear or texting incessantly.
2. I have no complaints about the hinge on the cover. But, if you flip your phone open with flair and a flick of your wrist each time and expect it to last over time, it could break. Just treat it with respect and it will last.
3. Sound quality is excellent. Each call I make, someone comments on the clarity.
4. Camera is very good - day or night. I have taken pictures of my black dog in twilight and my wife is using that as her wallpaper. Very cool, very good detail. It has multiple settings so I believe someone's problem with green pictures is due to their being on the "green picture" setting. Don't know why anyone wants their subjects to all appear as Kermit the Frog, but that is another story.
5. Battery cover hasn't fallen off.
6. No problem with the micro SD card behind the battery. I suppose if you use 2 GB of storage each day it would be a pain. If you do that, maybe you should consider buying a small digital camera for your shirt pocket or purse.
7. Plenty of aftermarket products available at very reasonable prices either on Amazon or by searching for "Razr V9" in your favorite search engine. Just be careful about the V9 and V9M differences. Some products that work for the V9M don't work with the V9.
8. Had some delivery issues between AT&T and Amazon. I must say that they were 80% AT&T and 20% Amazon. But, all ended well when the phones were received.
Just love it, really, really do. ...more info - Beautiful phone with lots of plusses.. but constant problems!
I went through 3 of these phones in 2.5 months. Before I go into detail, I will say that the phone/s never got wet, were never dropped - they were well taken care of.
First phone developed an issue 5 weeks after purchase. The speakerphone element went out. Once I turned the speakerphone on, I could no longer hear them.
ATT did a warranty exchange
Version 2 of the phone entailed it not charging. It was not the charger. Nor was it the battery. It was the charging port. This was 'discovered' within 3 days of getting the replacement V9.
Version 3 of the phone was the most confusing. The phone was not on mute and volume was all the way up. Upon opening the phone to make a call, the keypad would no longer make noise. It would dial, but no sound came through the earphone and nor could I hear anyone talking. The only way to 'correct' it was to turn the phone off and turn it back on. This issue appeared within 2-3 weeks of receiving it.
I'm not going for a 4th V9. It was a nice phone. Great features and I liked the weight of it in my hand - but somehow Quality Control really messed up the lot that ATT got that I had received. And if you read the reviews on ATT's website, there are several people that are reporting the exact same issues.
The majority of people seem to get phones without issues - but I managed to get 3 duds (out of 3). That doesn't make for me giving it high marks in a review....more info - Very Nice Phone.
I've had this phone about 3 weeks now and am very happy with it. The sound and signal quality are both excellent, no dropped calls or unintelligible voices. Battery life is very good, usually only have to charge it up once a week with moderate use. In short, for $18(AT&T contract extension)this is a very good deal....more info - worse phone ever purchased
This is worse phone ever purchased. I had Motorola Razor before, thought this might be better but no I was wrong,
There is absolutely nothing special about this phone and its worse than Motorola Razor.
1. Weight: You can kill someone with this headset weighs 4.4 ounces, If I keep it in pocket seems as if I have extra iron balls.
2. Phone quality is worse person at other end can't hear anything.
3. Drop calls are unlimited!! While talking call gets disconnected
4. Battery life is very low
5. Dimension is almost equivalent to i-phone!!
Overall phone is train wreck, waste of money
...more info - My Favorite Phone By Far (and I've tried dozens!)
I can't begin to list all of the phones and PDA phones I've either tried or owned since the early 1990's when I bought my first. All of them have something undesirable about them, but this is the best I've owned. Most I try out a week or so, then return it, but this one's a keeper! I love this phone so much, I actually (for the first time ever) purchased insurance for it.
Let me start by saying that call quality is of the utmost importance to me and other features are just nice bonuses.
This phone's call quality is so much better than the others, it makes you want to tell the person on the other end to spend a few bucks and buy a quality phone of their own! If everyone used a high-quality cell phone, there'd be much fewer incidences of people having to repeat themselves.
It's extremely well-built using solid metal construction-much better than its predecessors. I like the solid feel of this phone-not flimsy and not feeling like it's about to fall apart at any time.
It has a huge external screen. Unlike the V3xx that I also currently own that has a display so dim, you can't read it, the V9 is bright and clear.
The music phone feature is great to have. Although I bought a protective case that doesn't allow the big exterior screen's touch feature to work, it works great without the case and the vibration when touched allows the user to know that it's sensing your touch. I have 350 songs stored on my mini SD card, with room left for additional storage, plus the phone's internal storage remains clear. I no longer need to carry my iPod shuffle and a separate phone.
The built-in modem came to my rescue when my high-speed internet service failed. It ran my computer, not a lightening speed, but at a rate at least 8-9 times faster than the dial-up modem would have reached. It's even faster when accessing the 3G network via Media Net.
I cannot comment on battery life being poor generally because I routinely place all of my cell phones on the charger at night before retiring. This stems back from the days a phone couldn't hold a charge from sunrise to sunset without needing a charge, but there have been a couple of times I forgot and left it in my purse for 2 days, and it still had plenty of battery life left on that 3rd day.
If, as other reviewers have stated, the battery life is less than on other models, for me, having the big, bright responsive outer screen outweighs a few hours of battery life as a priority to me. It's not like I'll be on a 2 week camping trip with no viable means of recharging. Again, out of habit from the old brick phone days, I have always kept a spare battery fully-charged and so far, have never needed it.
I suspect that some of the reviewers who have negative things to say about this phone may have received a defective handset and would possibly be pleased if they'd exchange it for a properly working model.
By the way, it also features a 2mp camera with zoom and video capture capability! The only thing missing is a flash or light to use in the dark, but I won't downrate it for that alone.
After years of searching and dozens of handsets later, I've finally found my phone, and a whole lot more! ...more info - Outstanding! Truly an Awesome Handset!!!
I have owned this phone now, for over two weeks. I waited patiently for a deal on this phone to show up, somewhere at some point. it was a long wait. a close friend of mine writes the code for moto phones, and i got to take a sneak peek at this phone early on, before its release. i got to see it up close, and in person, and ever since, i wanted one. i knew that when this phone came out, i was going to buy one at some point.
i got this phone for 12 bucks, after rebate via amazon, and after the cost of the 2gb Sandisk memory card. it came in the original ATT box, with the plastic still on it, and all the parts still encased in protective plastic. the phone was truly a new, never used, in the box cell phone as amazon.com promised. This is not a cheap deal on a refurb, its the real thing.
The build quality on this phone is spectacular. The rubberized backing of the handset to make it non slip for sweaty hands, the integrated battery cover that is far better integrated than the Razr1, the look, the feel, the glass, the casing, everything about this phone is leaps better. up to and including the screen, the keypad, the hinge, the camera, the battery life, and quality of calls, its just amazing.
The Bluetooth is VERY fast. on average transferring an mp3 from my laptop to my old razr1 took about 30-45 minutes. This new Razr2 can do it in about 30-45 seconds, and I'm not exaggerating. i timed it, with several different size songs. this thing is FAST.
The internet speeds on the Edge and 3G networks are just awesome. a world of difference. truly. I can remember lags and wait times in excess of two or three minutes on my razr1 waiting for Gmail or yahoo mail to load up.
The instant messenger programs are really great! the connectivity, the ease of use and quick setup times make them a true lifesaver if you are on the go away from your computer. this phone is amazing in how connected it keeps you.
The LCD, both inside and out is just gorgeous. the look and feel of them is really top notch! better than that of the iPhone for sure. The external buttons on the External LCD work flawlessly too and are very easy to locate and use, even for someone like me who has big clumsy fingers.
The menues are better and seem to be similar but more refined. the two soft keys at the top of the keypad help in navigating and have better menu options than the razr1 also.
The haptics is awesome. its a HUGE help! i really am impressed with that too, as well as the camera, the print command to bluetooth to a modern bluetooth capable printer (which i tested and worked perfectly) and the Voice dial feature is MUCH more easily used and much smarter than the original razr's too. way easier to use!
Text messaging is VERY easy with this phone. someone before me said this wasnt a good machine for texting but i dis agree. it took me about a week to adjust to it after the razr, but this thing is very easy and fluid to text with and messages come and go VERY fast. its easy to set up new messages and read incoming ones, to clear up the messages, and to find recipients when sending, and to insert data into texts. its very intuitive and easy to use the keypad too. this is a MUST for me, as texting is one of my top forms of communication.
The best part of this phone is the voice communications. the call clarity, the lack of dropped calls, etc, are first rate and top notch. better even then my landline at home. i didnt think call quality like this could be achieved with a wireless handset and motorola is to be commended for the job they did with this phone in that respect. its just unbeleivable until you hear the difference.
I finally got around to testing the mp3 player today too, and it works like a charm. the external buttons work awesome and are very easy to use and control the player with, and the music player is basic but has all the tools and options you need. its just right! and yes, the bluetooth to headset in stereo is there and it too is very impressive. it works great!
The memory card i bought, the Sandisk 2gb Micro SD memory card, popped into the slot in teh back of the phone beside the sim card, and was immediately recognized without issue. it works perfectly and even works out as an external storage device on my computer. i was worried, i run vista on my laptop, but it found the phone and they play very nice together. same goes for bluetooth transfers. both went smooth as can be, with no hiccups. this phone is all that and a bag of doritos.
One note of caution: be very VERY careful with the cover on the phone to the charging outlet, it is delicate. its the only achilles heel to this phone. be careful and youll be ok.
Battery life is great. i got about a day to a day and a half with my Razr1, i get three to four days with this phone. its a great and drastic improvement, and with the adaptor it comes with, you can even use your old razr1 car charger with this phone too. so no worries there at all.

I have been useing this phone for over a month and I can say it's the best phone I have ever had.great pic's from the camera.battery is great.can get up to 3 day's on a charge, just a perfect phone for me...more info - Poorly constructed piece of junk
Features on the phone work ok, though i can't use half of them, as I wasn't informed that it is not Mac compatable. The hinge broke after 6 months and neither AT&T nor Motorola will cover it siting that it's "physical damage" I did not drop or mistreat the phone, it was just very cheaply made. It doesn't matter how many features it has if it breaks after 6 months. (At&T would not insure it. wonder why? ) I will never buy another Motorola phone and may change my AT&T carrier....more info - Not very impressed
Believe it or not, this is my first Razr style phone. I've never been inclined to have too many bells and whistles since I have no desire to use my cell as an internet device/GPS system/or IM client. I just need it to have good call quality and a good camera/video.
I'm coming from Verizons service and I used an outdated LG-VX5300 clamshell. It was no frills but I loved the feel of that phone in my hand and the call quality was fine. I had planed on getting an LG-VX8300 when I renewed with Verizon but moving to PA changed that. I was always in a roaming area once I moved. This wasn't good since I couldn't send or receive pictures, and lost alot of Verizons benefits while roaming. Since my contract was up I went with ATT.
I was interested in the V9 for the large screen and the CrystalTalk feature that is supposed to enhance call quality. I was also looking into a Blackberry Curve but was always more of a flip phone kinda guy so went with the V9.
The color isn't too shabby although I really wish they would of had a darker smoke color, or even metallic. The phone has two dedicated buttons right next to the send and end call buttons that connect you to the internet. I read alot of negative reviews saying they would get $10/month in charges just from accidentally hitting those buttons. What I did is go under the security menu and make a PIN number for any internet related activities. Now when I accidentally hit those buttons a screen comes up asking for my PIN. No more accidental internet charges!
I really liked the idea of having a touch screen on the front but its very limited. Its only used for rewinding, fast forwarding, and playing music. They really could have done SO much more with this feature. I hear this is a limitation that ATT imposed as other carriers V9 models can do more with the touch screen.
The call quality to me wasn't very impressive. From the reviews I read I thought it would be very clear and loud. I have the volume on max and do not think the calls are loud at all. I can hear my callers but it was nowhere near what I was expecting. I don't live in a 3G area but my phone constantly changes from the Edge network to some other lower grade network. Every 30 seconds or so I can hear a weird silence on the line for a split second. I read this is the phone making a handoff to another network, all I know is it's annoying.
I don't know if the change between the networks is eating my battery but its HORRIBLE! I read plenty of complaints that 3G will kill your battery but I don't ever use 3G. I also have my screensaver off, no bluetooth enabled, and have my backlight to the lowest setting. I didn't even get 24 hours before my battery was almost dead. I made no more than 5 minutes of phones calls but I did spend alot of time in the menus and configuring the phone. I still think thats a very short battery life. And the recharge took quite along time as well. I plugged it in about half an hour before I had to leave the house. When I went to grab it, it was still charging. I didnt want to unplug on halfa charge so left the phone at home. My old phone took like 10 minutes to recharge!
As I said, this was my first Razr. I liked the slim design but not so much the width. I have fairly small hands and holding this phone is kind of uncomfortable. I am actually debating whether to keep this phone based largely on that fact. I prefer the smaller clam shells but theres not much to choose from right now with ATT in that area. I was able to easily open my old flip phone with one hand using my thumb. This phone requires two hands for me. I can use my thumb but its awkward and my thumb scratches across the bottom of the internal screen when using one hand.
The ringtones are HORRIBLE. I have never been a fan of wacky ringtones. I always used a normal phone ring included with the phone. This phones ringtones all sound muffled! Thankfully ATT included a free ringtone so hopefully I can find a basic ringtone online that sounds decent.
For people that are into ringtones will be disappointed in the restrictions placed on them. The ringtones have to be under a certain size, a certain quality, and certain length. I've read people having alot of problems getting the phone to accept downloaded/imported ringtones. I tried downloading a voice tone from ATT but it kept saying my phone was not compatible. Music is much easier to import and plays fine. I really wish my phones ringer would play as loud as songs do, but for whatever reason they do not.
I didn't think the camera was that great. For the life of me I cant figure out why they didn't include a flash! They do have a bunch of different modes to choose from to tweak how the pics will look though. With the right lighting the pictures would be OK with a very steady hand. Any movement at all would cause bad motion blur. No auto focus makes things worse. The zoom feature is pretty good but again, having no auto focus makes things very grainy when zoomed in and the slightest movement will cause bad blurring. I only messed with the video aspect for a short time but it looked fine as I wasn't expecting much from the video camera.
Using Motorola Phone Tools has been great in transferring files to and from my phone and computer. I transferred my pictures, wallpaper, songs, and address book without a hitch. I only ran into a problem when trying to import a mp3 ringtone to my phone. I kept getting a codec error. The file played fine on my computer and in phone tools but it just wouldn't transfer to my phone. I read this is a problem with Vista so I will try again using my XP computer.
So in the end I'm up in the air as to what to do. If I purchased this from an ATT store theres no doubt I would swap it for a different model. I just don't know if I want to go through the online hassle of returning the phone to Amazon, having to cancel my service with ATT, then trying a different phone after 60 days. Apparently Amazon doesn't swap phones, only refunds purchases. Its not that the call quality is bad, it's just not as loud or clear as I thought it would be. The drop out sounds become annoying. Its like pressing the mute button for half a second every minute or so. Being that the phone is so wide it makes it a little awkward when holding. I was sold on this phone after reading reviews on the CrystalTalk and the great reception. I just don't see any improvement from my outdated LG. In fact, my old phone sounded louder and didn't have those dropouts. So while theres no really serious flaws it's not the phone I was expecting.
...more info - We thought AT&T has raised the bars on the quality & service not just on the fees.....
We purchased from Amazon.com one Motorola RAZR2 V9 Phone and two Sony Ericsson Z750 Phones along with a mandatory 2-year contract AT&T FamilyTalk Nation 550 Rollover Minutes.
Pros: $0.03 for all three phones, Rollover minutes.
Cons: just to mention few...
- The worst talk and standby time on all three phones particularly the Sony Ericsson, despite the fact all three of us use our cell phones only for very necessary or in emergency situations.
- More dropped calls than the competition.
- The quality of voice (connection) is a lot to be desired.
- You cannot program the phone on speaker ahead of time. You can activate it only after dialing or receiving a call - A SAFETY ISSUE while driving.
- The buttons on all three phones are arranged in such a way so that one can easily get connected to internet inadvertently. Despite disconnecting it immediately, you get charged by AT&T. The AT&T advice was to either purchase a new plan (for additional high monthly fee) or have the option of internet connection totally disconnected (without reduction in monthly charge despite reduced service). We end up to having to choose the latter.
- The ring tone of RAZR2 V9 when on speaker phone is laryngitic.
- The choices for the ring tones are severely anemic, unless you purchase more tones from AT&T.
- The voice command, as I understand it, can be activated only with additional monthly fee. The competition gave that for free on the less equipped phones.
WHY DID WE NOT CANCEL THE AT&T PLAN during the first ONE month of grace period?
This one goes to Amazon.com and its new stifling way of business: If you cancel or reduce the plan within the first SIX months, you have to pay $250 for each phone!!!
Perhaps I was too generous to include "$0.03 for all three phones" as a Pro for this, seemingly, deal; or more seemingly, ordeal. ...more info - Real Bad Phone with Good Looks.
I ordered this phone just lookin at pics and returned it back immediately after using for sometime. I thought it would be better than RAZR V3. I dont know from which material Motorola has manufactured this phone, it weighs a ton. RAZR2 V9 being a flip phone is very big compared to a straight phone like Blackberry Pearl. The features are also not so good. ...more info - Nice phone and great AT&T service
I have had the phone for 5 months. It's really a solid built metal phone. It is slightly heavier than the average phone and just feels like you got your moneys worth unlike some of these plastic junk phones. I only use the phone for talking (no internet or games) so I can not comment on that aspect of it. The sound quality is top notch. The camera is ok for a phone but do not expect to take nice printable photos and there is no flash. Get a real camera for that. MP3 playback is surprisingly clear and loud! Not bad for a phone. It supports Micro SD cards. The phone is slimmer than the original RAZR and it fits in my jean pockets perfect. This is my favorite phone so far and its cool looking. Some people wine about the physical hinge point but I don't understand it. The phone is built well and unless you use it to hammer nails it should easily last for the 2 yr contract.
Cons:
-It shows finger prints easily everywhere.
-It has a Micro USB (not Mini USB) so it will not use a standard USB cable unless you use the included adapter.
-The charging port has a annoying cover on it. You have to remove it everytime you want to charge or link to a PC.
I had one problem with the phone. The receiver ear speaker somehow failed after 5 months. From what I have read this is not common at all. I called AT&T and they sent me a new phone under warranty within 3 days. I sent my old phone back after I got the new one. GREAT service so far and AT&T really went the extra mile to keep me happy!
...more info - Greatly enhance razr
I have been using the original razr since its first release and it was still proving to be a dependable phone. Decided to finally upgrade and went with the razr2. Not disappointed at all. I do not use the phone to surf the net. Surfing the net on a 2 inch screen is not my idea of fun. The few times I have surfed the net the 3g did live up to the hype.
I text very little as well. I just want a phone with a decent camera that can keep up with appointments. This does all that very well.
The camera is much nicer than the razr. High quality pics considering it is from a phone after all.
Popped in a 2gb micro sd and loaded some songs. The built in music player is easy to use.
It does come with an adapter that allows you to use your razr car charger and wall charger for the razr2.
The $30+ software motorola sells to sync the phones contacts and edit pics and music and appointments can be purchased on ebay or $5. Yes is works just fine.
It feels solid in your hand too.
I like the vibrating side buttons letting you know you actually did push the button....more info - A great phone with a lot of capabilities
I've owned this phone for a month now, and I've found it to be a great device with a good number of capabilities.
Pros:
-Web & data ready
-2 megapixel camera
-Music player which can be accessed from side buttons while phone is
closed
-Internal & external LCD screens supporting 262k colors
-Fits easily in pants pocket
-Bluetooth 2.0
-500Mhz processor
Cons:
-Does not take very clear closeup photos
-micro USB port
-Some calls start off a bit warbly but clear up shortly (Coverage
map has me in an area with strongest signal strength. Signal
strength shows full bars on phone screen.)
-Battery should be higher capacity to better accommodate all of the
advanced phone features
All-in-all, I'm happy with my purchase of the Razr2 V9. It's powerful, has great displays, good functionality, and sounds very clear most of the time....more info - good but not the best
great phone, but should change the color, screen on the outside does not play videos and ringtones must be less than 300KB so u have to have a whole diffent set of songs for your ringtones. ...more info - BEWARE OF BUYING AT AMAZON!!!
I am not ranting about the phone but this website and how they scam buyers. If I can only give a NO STAR, I would. I wanted to get the Motorola V9 and thought I found the best deal at this website for $100 w/ a 2 yr contract extension on my AT&T plan w/ free shipping. The phone with its features were displayed right in front of me. So, excited and happy with my find, I finally decided to upgrade my phone and locked myself in a 2 yr contract (w/c I've never done in my 5 yr service w/ AT&T). I know my phones because I worked as a sales rep at Cingular for 3 1/2 yrs. So there was no way in the world that I would mistaken the V9 (w/c is a flip touch screen phone) with a Z9 (w/c is a slider phone). When I got my package, I was so mad to see a Z9 phone in the box! Why would I pay $100 for a Z9 and get myself into a 2 yr contract when I can easily get that phone for $200 in an AT&t store near my work? I get 40% handset discounts through my company.
I trusted Amazon to deliver to me what was on the starting page of their product offer just like what you see here. The V9 was even $50 after a $50 rebate on a new 2 yr activation. I even checked the rebate for it! Now, when I check, they don't even have any offers for the V9 through At&T. I have never had this horrible experience with Amazon. I've been buying my stuff from this site and this is what I get? I will never again buy anything from this website.
Now, I have to pay from my own pocket for the shipment of the wrong phone that was sent to me and I have to waste time to call Amazon to complain and AT&T to undo my contract. I should have listened to the big number of people who had nightmares about their purchase at AMAZON. What a shame! ...more info - RAZR2 V9
Excellent phone, only issue, battery doesn't seem to have talk time that Motorola says it does....more info - Razr2 V9 from Amazon is pretty flat
I just got RAZR2 V9 like a week ago. Without even activating the pan I am returning the phone. Except the music player that can be controlled through the front LCD panel, all other features are pretty much like Razr V3. I had V3 for almost 2.5 years and I thought V9 would be excellent. I thought V9 has controlls like messages, contact list and music player that can be controlled through the LCD, but you can only access music player. All other features are pretty much diables. Crappy ringtones, no wall papers nothing. You have to pay for everything.
If you are expecting something that upgrades V3 about this phone, make sure you will get all the features that you want. Bottom line is V9 from AMAZON has no features that other providers like Verizon and Alltel are ofering for this phone. ...more info
