Product Description

With voice clarity as clear as a face-to-face conversation, the CD4 series puts the emotion back into a call. HD sound brings people and their feelings closer together. Enjoy high quality conversation, with a level of clarity rarely heard before. Thanks to a high-quality speaker and to a real acoustic chamber, the audio spectrum reaches far beyond what's normally heard on a telephone. Handsfree mode allows you to speak and listen during a call without holding the handset. This is especially useful if you want to share the call with others or take notes during a call.

The Philips CD4402B/37 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone System comes with two handsets and uses the advanced DECT 6.0 technology. DECT 6.0 uses the 1.9 GHz frequency range, which does not interfere with wireless networks, microwave ovens, cordless phones, and other household items. The result is voice quality as clear as a face-to-face conversation, outstanding range that lets you wander all over your house while you're on the phone, and enhanced security from eavesdroppers.

There are two handsets included, and you can add up to five handsets total without worrying about wires or connections. A built-in loudspeaker with a unique acoustic design provides an optimal speakerphone experience. This is especially useful for sharing calls with others in the room or taking notes during a call. The handsets have a polyphonic ringer and a phonebook with room for 100 entries, and feature a two-line display with a blue backlight that supports caller ID, call waiting, Caller ID on call waiting, and conference call. The rechargeable batteries have a talk time of up to 12 hours and a standby time of up to 150 hours.

Customer Reviews:

  • fantastic! intuitive and reliable
I am a research nut! I research things to death my wife tells me. I researched new DECT phones and decided to purchase this Philips model and am totally pleased! The phones work fantastically. I took the time to read the manual (unlike some people who have written reviews) and can say the features included with this phone are extensive and well thought out. I bought an additional phone so we could have 3 total. They work flawlessly. I didn't want an answering system because I use my phone providers service, but I did want a phone that would tell me when I have a new message to check. These phones do that! The phones have a small red light that activates when you have a new call. The screen also tells you - with an icon and words - that you have a new message waiting to listen to. Once you listen to your message on one phone, it deactivates the red light on all phones. Same for looking at and deleting the caller ID. Look at and then delete the caller ID information on one phone and it updates all 3 phones. Plenty of ringtones to choose from and virtually every other feature you could want. Sound quality is outstanding and the speakerphone on the handset works amazingly well! I work in the world of electronics and can honestly say if you take the time to learn the phone and its features you won't be disappointed....more info
  • Didn't meet expectations
I changed my Vtech 5.8 old phones with this Philips set, nice design and superior voice quality. But, right after setup and pluging in, which is very easy, I noticed the message icon on the screen and the red light indicator flashing. This nornally means there is a new message on my mailbox, but in this case was a compatiblity issue with Vonage (Internet Phone). There is no way to make it go away, tried everything until Philips Customer Service line told me the only solutions was to return the phone. Disapointing and a waste of time.

In addition, battery life was very poor (max 3 hours) but I didnt have a chance to check if it was the set of batteries received with the phones or the normal performance....more info
  • Philips CD4402B/37 Cordless Phone--Great Buy!
I was pleased with the low price and how quickly I received the Philips CD4402B/37 High Def Voice Cordless Phone I ordered from Amazon.com. I use the phones daily and am very pleased with the voice quality, the speakerphone and all the features of the phone. I plan to expand the system by buying additional handsets....more info
  • Nice clear sound
Have been looking for a while for a cordless phone which my wife, who wears hearing aids, can use. This is the first one that actually works for her. If she can't hear a soft voiced caller she just switches to speaker phone, and bingo, she can hear! The phone's features are pretty neat and relatively easy to program, though it is a little complicated to remember which button to push for what, even for someone nerdy like me...;-)...more info
  • Nice and different
6.0GHz handsets do not interfere with standard Wifi LAN, this telephone set does just that: works. Sound is crisp and the display is user friendly. I bought this one because I didn't find it in any other color. Easy to set up and add more handsets. Cheap and different cordless phone....more info
  • These phones stink!
There are a few good features of this phone but the bad far outweight the good. Good Stuff: nice styling, adaptable, excellent sound quality

Bad Stuff: When the phone rings, some of the handsets go completely blank and you can't pick up the call. This causes you to have to run to another room with a working handset to pick up the call. You never know which handset is going to work so it keeps you in pretty good shape and on your toes. Also, I agree with all the other reviewers that the battery life stinks. There are 3 bars on the battery indicator. A typical 10-minutes call will take the battery down one bar. If you you use the phone for business, you better have all 4 handsets in front of you so you can keep switching phones that may have some charge left in them. The screen is easy to read when the backlight is off but when that bright blue back light comes on, it washes out the screen.

In summary, its a cool phone system with great features but its like they just invented it and threw it out on the Walmart shelves without testing it. I am very disapointed in Philips. ...more info
  • Ringer CAN be turned off!
The ringer on the Philips CD4402B/37 CAN be turned off by holding down the # key on the dial pad for about 3 seconds (see CD 440 Manual, page 8, Item "I"). And a little "canceled note" icon appears in the screen.

Even though this is ultimately quite simple to do, I must admit that it is not self-evident, and I got quite frustrated trying to figure it out without the manual. It used to be so simple in the olden days - a simple switch on the side of the phone - no "long press" vs. "short press" of the "hash key"!

Studying the manual is an absolute necessity to understand how to use the many great features of this phone, as getting to the feature you want and controlling it is sometimes counter-intuitive and even labyrinthine. The phone also displays some bewildering terminology - for example, why use "Calls Log Call List" instead of simply "Caller ID"?

Being slightly hearing impaired, I can testify that the CD440's sound is always quite clear and the built-in loudspeaker feature can make it even louder and more natural sounding, BUT you won't hear your own voice through the ear-piece of the phone when in loudspeaker mode, which feels a little strange at first - as if you're not getting through to the other person even though you are. A plug-in headset also works well with this phone, which can be hooked on your clothes, completely freeing your hands.

  • Really good phone.
The phone works great. If you read the user manual and learn how to use all the functionality, the phone is as good as anything you can buy at that price ($54). Most of the "flaws" that others complain about are not even issues if you learn how to use the product correctly....more info
  • Horrible Battery life and setup
Glad I got this from a place that was willing to take it back after 10 months of use. Battery life is horrible. If you dont dock it every night, it will last maybe a day tops. Phone looks good, sounds great however.

Setup required the user's manual. You have to enter some codes for security reasons. I'm not technically challenged at all, but seriously, this isn't an Audio Surround tuner we're talking about, why make it so complicated?

    You have been warned....more info
  • clear sound big LCD screen
its perfect for the price long battery life very sleek looking crisp clear sound and this is a big plus for me use's AA rechargeable batteries and come with 2 pair in the box that charge on the phone stand. Because I hate buying those funky square phone adapter batteries expensive take for ever to charge. I brought a extra 2 pair with charger on sale at radio shack just in case for those long calls pop in and good to go.The phone range is very good no problems but I wish it did have a internal answering machine.the menu screen is abit funky at the start but ajusted with in 3 days all good five stars all the way ...more info
  • Terrible sound quality
I've owned many phones over the years, and the sound quality on this one is the worst by far. Voices are harsh, metallic, ringing, almost painful to listen to. I've made two calls on it and it's getting packed up and returned tomorrow.

Features are unimpressive compared to other phones in this price range. The phone book is especially primitive. Philips has a lot of work to do if they want to be a player in the cordless phone market.

    Pass this one by....more info
  • Philips CD4402B/37 DECT 6.0 Dual Phone Bundle
This is pretty good product and seems to be better than most of these cordless phone systems. It is fairly easy to program to use most of the features. Time will tell as to the long term quality of this product....more info
