Product Description

What do you do? Tim Ferriss has trouble answering the question. Depending on when you ask this
controversial Princeton University guest lecturer, he might answer:

“I race motorcycles in Europe.”
“I ski in the Andes.”
“I scuba dive in Panama.”
“I dance tango in Buenos Aires.”

He has spent more than five years learning the secrets of the New Rich, a fast-growing subculture who has abandoned the “deferred-life plan” and instead mastered the new currencies—time and mobility—to create luxury lifestyles in the here and now.

Whether you are an overworked employee or an entrepreneur trapped in your own business, this book is the compass for a new and revolutionary world. Join Tim Ferriss as he teaches you:

• How to outsource your life to overseas virtual assistants for $5 per hour and do whatever you want
• How blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs
• How to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of a forgotten Italian economist
• How to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and freuent "mini-retirements"
• What the crucial difference is between absolute and relative income
• How to train your boss to value performance over presence, or kill your job (or company) if it’s beyond repair
• What automated cash-flow “muses” are and how to create one in 2 to 4 weeks
• How to cultivate selective ignorance—and create time—with a low-information diet
• What the management secrets of Remote Control CEOs are
• How to get free housing worldwide and airfare at 50–80% off
• How to fill the void and create a meaningful life after removing work and the office

You can have it all—really.

  • The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich
The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich I heard about "The 4-Hour Workweek" in a business building class at ICA. Timothy Ferris describes in a very entertaining way how to work 4 hours a week and join the new rich. It's not a book for the fearful or for those who are stuck in the status quo. Like every other great idea - there are those who will pick it up and run with it and those who will shake their heads and stay stuck.

It's definitely an entertaining read....more info
  • Tim Ferriss Brilliant Marketer
Virtual Assistant, Outsourcing your life these are two tools that jumped out at me from this book. Timothy Ferriss brilliantly demonstrates how you don't have to be be smarter but wiser and you can learn the rules to any arena of life and achieve great success. If you desire to streamline your business process this book is for you. I think his language is somewhat offensive and conceited. My suggestion eat the meat and spit out the bones.

  • Challenges your notions on work, play, and retirement
This is an incredible book for those whose mind is open to question some of their most basic assumptions. It's one thing to hear the phrase "work smarter not harder", but it's quite different when it comes with detailed instructions and examples.

While it helps to have the author's life as an example, sometimes the author pushes his values/preferences a little too much. At those times, readers just need to focus on the bigger picture. Some big picture ideas most can benefit from:

    - money is a vehicle, not a destination
    - time is the most valuable commodity
    - focus on raising your hourly wage, not your annual salary
    - don't defer your dreams, especially not until retirement

This book, in addition to making you think, can actually help you get much more out of life, not only by inspiring you, but with tools and resources. In addition to many tools and resources in the book, there are more on the book's companion web site. Even if you choose not to have a four hour work week, this book can still help you enjoy life more. What more can you want from a book?

  • Motivation for the Motivated Entrepreneur
If you are looking for a motivational book on how to become more effective in your life, this book is for you! While a 4-hour workweek might not be practical for most of us, you can have more free time and be more effective in your "work time" if you follow a few of the author's tips.

As an entrepreneur myself, following the author's outsourcing tips, I have cut my workload by more than 90%. I still handle customer service myself, but all of my order processing is now handled by a third party company, and it costs me less than $2 per order. As a result, I no longer have to pay for storage for my product and don't have to worry about hiring staff as my company continues to grow. Instead, I spend 20 or 30 minutes a day sending a few emails and forwarding orders to my fulfillment center and they handle the rest. I now have time to work a full-time corporate job, yet I still get an extra $4-5k per month in my bank account. Thanks Tim Ferris!...more info

  • Great Resource & Inspriation for Entrepreneurs
This is the 3rd copy I've purchased. After I read my original copy, I bought extras to share with friends/family. A good resource for those who want more from life than working 40, 50, 60 hrs. a week. Mr. Ferris illustrates how to run a business, make money and still have time to do things you love. ...more info
  • Very good book!
A very interesting book, Tim Ferriss is a real source of inspiration and his advices are great. I am already trying to apply his lifestyle design principles and I believe it can work. Don't hesitate a second and read this book!...more info
  • It CAN change your life!
Is achieving the 4-Hour Workweek easy, according to Tim Ferris' book. Heck no. But is it achievable? Heck yes!

The ideas Tim shares in the books are revolutionary, transformative and likely WAY outside your comfort zone, but having said that, I have been trying to implement them a little at a time, and I'm seeing results.

If you feel out of control of your work life and aren't experiencing the "living" part of life, I recommend giving this book a read. Your head may explode, but only in good ways you probably need anyway.

  • Timothy Ferriss, Superhero
I gave it three stars because it was an enjoyable read. I normally only read self-help books so this gave me a little break from reading anything educational or in any way helpful to my personal or financial developement. The book goes on and on about the authors feats but like the old lady in the Wendys commercial kept yelling, "Where's the beef???" He had a lucky hit with an internet business. He came up with a fantastic title for this book. He is somebody that I would truely enjoy meeting. But where in this boastfull book does he teach the novice how to accomplish what the title suggests?

I am gratefull for the reminder that life is once. To use it up waiting for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is tragic. And we must remember that the pot of gold is at the END of the rainbow, if it exsists at all. None of us want to pull a heavy plow all the way to our grave but so many of us will do just that! So perhaps the real value of this book is in waking us up! Maybe we will look at our lives and how we want to use them up. But the title can do all that. As for all the pages after the title? They are entertaining....more info
  • give me a break
this author is laughing his way to the bank on your dime. I watched my husband read this lounging in our backyard on workdays, uninspired to go to work or answer phone calls to customers, because of the book, insisted he can make more by doing nothing. Give me a break, work is work, laziness is for fools.

  • This book is a denial killer
You already know most of what Tim says. But if you're like me, you've spent your life being trained to forget it, deny it, rationalize it. No more. This book is full of hilarious anecdotes, real life examples and actionable challenges. You will say "damn, that's me" over and over again. Just remember, acknowledgement is the first stop on the road to recovery......more info
  • Not (quite) as ridiculous as it looks
Mr. Ferris undoubtedly used these techniques to build an enviable lifestyle, but I think that his amazing self-promotion skills were at least as important as the systems he describes. Still, while I don't expect to be able to run around the world off the proceeds of an internet trinket-selling business (and I don't think that I could really respect myself if that was my contribution to society), I do think that many of the concepts and techniques that he introduces will improve the way that I do the work that I find meaningful.

In summary, read it with skepticism, and you will be pleasantly surprised with some great tips and points of view....more info

  • The best book I've read since "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"!!!
The 4-Hour Work Week" is the best book I've read since Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"!!!

Just like "RD,PD", this book is one that will shift your entire mindset from what you thought was good thinking to that of extraordinary thinking. I had heard all the hype about the book but I frankly wasn't moved by it since working a 4-hour week was never one of my goals but believe me when I tell you, it's BIGGER than you think! Whether you ever become rich or work even 20 hours a week, the action steps and teachings in the book will help you live a much more productive and efective life while cutting out all the "fat" that fills our busy days.

Now I see why this first time author struck a major publishing deal and is a NY Times Best Seller with this one. Shucks, my books are great (Yes I said it! LOL), but I wish this book had been written 4-5 years ago.

  • Wonderful
This is the first self help book I have read and actually got physical results from. Right now I work from home 4 days a week and I outsource my business. • Pure Garbage
This book is garbage. I donated it to my local library shortly after completing it. First off - the number of plugs Ferriss puts in his book is unbelievable. He's clearly getting a small cut from each of these people who want to "advertise" in his book. Secondly - he talks mostly about himself throughout this book. As opposed to Guy Kawasaki who might actually give instructions, and most likely will inspire, Tim Ferriss is so insecure about himself that he has to talk about his own dance skills before he gets into the meat of the book.

This is the plan that Timmy here recommends - get your company to let you work remotely. Once they say yes (because that's just SO easy for everyone apparently), then you stop actually delivering results because now you're working from home, you outsource all your tasks to do (yes he really tells you to outsource ALL your job work), you travel to countries where the dollar is quite strong, and then in your spare time on a beach lagoon you create a product that can sell. You sell this product in exclusive magazines and TV - you don't try and mass market it because then it becomes a commodity. By only advertising in select places, you control the price forever, as he says. Bear in mind - you're doing all this because your company is willing to turn a deaf ear to your lack of results.

Wait - there's more. Instead of creating a product - which can be easily replicated - create something else - INFORMATION, he says. Create an instructional DVD or CD (and of course he shows you the best places to produce them for you), or perhaps write an instructional book, and then sell this book to the masses. I'm sitting there reading this book and it occurred to me - this guy just DID EXACTLY THAT to me! He created so-called information, marketed the hell out of it via a blog and a catchy title, and then I lost my $19.99 to him. So I've been made out like a fool, and it was so easy that he explains how everyone can do it.

This book is so filled with garbage that Tim Ferriss actually spends several pages in his book writing a line by line SCRIPT that you can use with your boss when you persuade them to let you work from home. Save your time and your money. Guy Kawasaki is better - start a good business, claim tax benefits, and work hard, and you'll be happy. Did anyone really think you can make enough money to live and support a family when you only work four hours a week? Pure garbage....more info

The book is interesting. It took a little longer than I expected to arrive, but nothing extreme....more info
  • Timothy Ferriss is a Genius!
Okay so some of the words were way over my reading level, blame it on Ferriss' Ivy league education. The challenges in the book were a bit quirky, but all in all the book was very informative on the topic of cutting down working hours whether you are an entrepreneur or an employee. I was able to implement Ferriss' advice immediately in many cases. The autobiographical stories were down right hilarious and jaw-dropping at times. I remember laughing out loud many times while reading the book. Timothy Ferriss is a guy that you have to love for his heroic take on life and for creating a complete resource website for purchasers of the book. I can't wait for his next book!...more info
  • You Get More than You Bargained for
This book has tremendous value for the reader although most readers will miss the bulk of the value they could get so here are some things you should watch for and learn from as you read this book. First, the book is a marketing masterpiece. Pay close attention to how the author got your attention and motivated you to take action.

Second, the author changes your time paradigm. He helps you see the way you use your time from a completely different perspective. You really must read the book to appreciate this new perspective.

Finally, while this may not be the life you want to create for yourself there's a lot of valuable information you can use to create the life you do want.

  • I wanna quit my job!
Very inspiring. Timothy talks the talk and has walked the walk.
Heaps helpful hints and insights on how to create a job that supports the lifestyle you want.
Seems like the internet and outsourcing are the way of the future!?
Also nice that he's got a few "action" pages that require you to take action on what you just read before you can/should move one.
Some of the stuff is quite out there...but oh well nobody boring has ever changed the world!

  • Entertaining with Some Useful Ideas
I have done the whole living in other countries thing as he has, and for anyone who has not done it, his travel ideas are definitely worthwhile. It definitely changes your perspective. I am planning to try and implement some of his suggestions regarding my businesses, although one of them is in the service area and many of his ideas are not applicable in that area. I do agree with D for defining goals, E for eliminating time killers that don't add to the bottom line, A for automation and L for liberation (travelling and not being tied to the office). Some of his ideas are a little shady, but no worse than your average legal maneuver. When I told my husband how he won the kickboxing championship, my husband said "He cheated!" I don't think he cheated, but I think it says more about having an ability to see loopholes and take advantage of them, than having a prize winning athletic ability. I also have an issue with calling himself an applied linguist, since I think that is overstating the hobby of travelling and learning languages. But, in case I am sounding overcritical, I do believe that there are some useful ideas that I can apply to my businesses and today we need every single advantage we can get. If we take some of the ideas, we may not be working a four hour work week, but it definitely will be shorter than what we are currently working and that is a good thing to me....more info
