By using the 5.8 GHz frequency, performance is enhanced thanks to less interference with Wi-Fi networks.
The Uniden CXAI5698 phone system offers:
  • Less interference with wireless networking (wi-fi) products.
  • Ability to make and receive calls during a power failure.
  • Digital answering system with up to 14 minutes of recording time.
  • User-friendly voice prompt and display in English, Spanish, and French.
Advanced Technology For Clarity and Message Management
The CXAI5698 offers an 5.8GHz extended range for clarity, voice security and brilliant sound, making conversations more pleasant and easier to hear. Additionally, the answering system utilizes microchip technology to ensure clearer recordings and a longer life. And there's no moving parts to attempt to repair or replace!

High-Capacity Number Storage
The CXAI5698 offers dependable, reliable performance and a host of options for quick and easy calling. First, the system stores up to 50 names and numbers in the caller ID memory for immediate access to the digits you dial most. You can also connect Lines 1 and 2 for a three-way conference call--an especially useful option for small offices or for making long-distance calls to friends and family members. Finally, the CXAI5698 can be mounted either horizontally on a desk or in a hanging position for added convenience.

User-Friendly Operation
Easy to operate, the CXAI5698 offers trilingual voice prompt guidance in either English, French or Spanish and includes a base keypad with caller ID display, so you'll always know who's calling. The new message LED indicator alerts you via a blinking light when someone has called and left a message, and you can quickly retrieve messages using the cordless handset. The intercom, call transfer and speakerphone at base options are also great for home offices--there's even an option to record calls. Not at home but need to check your messages? No problem. The CXAI5698 conveniently allows you to access your messages from a remote location.

Compatability and Personalization Options
The CXAI5698 boasts a user-friendly design that allows you to personalize the way you make and receive calls. The system meets all of the requirements for compatibility of inductively coupled hearing aids; additionally, the it allows for an optional headset to be connected for hands-free operation.

Straightforward volume controls for both the ringer and the earpiece let you adjust the volume to a comfortable level, and the Do Not Disturb/Ringer Off setting is great for those times when you don't want a ringing phone to interrupt sleep or work. To save time, the last number redial instantly dials the last number called at the touch of just one button. And if you can't find the handset, simply depress the "Find Handset" locator key and you'll hear a ringing noise that guides you to its location.

About Uniden 5.8GHz phones
Uniden 5.8GHz phones operate on the higher end of the frequency spectrum, providing greater range and less interference than standard 2.4GHz phones. Uniden 5.8GHz digital FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) technology secures privacy while providing longer range and crystal clear sound. 5.8GHz frequencies often escape most wireless interference, including most Wi-Fi networks, resulting in a cleaner and clearer signal, and unlike many other 5.8GHz phones, Uniden TRU series phones both transmit and receive in 5.8GHz.

The CXAI5698 is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews:

  • Good for the Price
Unit would have gotten 4 stars if the cordless portion of the system did not get so much intereference. I have other Uniden 5.8ghz corldess units and they work great. This one not so much. you get about 10-15 feet away and you get static. Luckly u only bought it because i needed a cheap desk phone. The base unit here is very good. Comfortable and good speaker phone. for the price i guess it is not bad having to deal with the cordless, considering i have other corless units it is no problem. But don't buy thie unit if you NEED to have the cordless, only get it if the cordless will be considered a plus....more info
  • Okay So Far
I've had a base corded phone with one or two companion wireless phones from AT&T, Panasonic, and Motorola over the past five years or so. Each started out okay and then developed various problems and breakdowns not long after the end of the warranty periods. So as well as this Uniden is working after a week (though I really dislike the loud button beeps from the base phone), I've concluded that quality control on phones, regardless of brand, is sadly wanting, at least from my experience. I do hope this Uniden holds up, if only because the sound quality (it's an analog phone) is better than on my previous trashed phone collection, and the button ergonomics are quite comfortable. ("Button ergonomics." Young men here are free incorporate it as the key phrase in a pickup line. A surefire winner.)...more info
  • some good, some bad
This applies only to the corded component.

I use the phone in a somewhat noisy home office environment: computer fans and household fans.

The speakerphone is excellent: loud enough to be heard over ambient noise, and distortion free.

The corded handset is pretty bad. Distorts at high volume, and volume level is inadequate for ambient noise. Worse than my old $15 speakerphone.

The hard-wired corded base uses wall-wart power, which is good, since the speakerphone won't run down a battery as is the case in some Panasonic models. On the other hand, it does not contain a backup battery, so most functions go away when there is no power to the wall-wart. If you have a UPS, plug the wall-wart into your UPS. If you don't have a UPS, get one, you'll thank me some day.

The user interface to the phone leaves something to be desired, but it is not completely awful. It is annoying that the keypad tones to the room cannot be turned off, even when using only the corded handset. It is also annoying that there is a significant delay between keypress and tone generation, which will throw off your dialing rhythm.

The corded handset is the annoying newfangled cleverboy design kind, with a tapered mouthpiece section, no doubt shaving .03c off the shipping cost from China, but making it a lot harder to wedge on your shoulder....more info
  • Bob's Review
Just bought this Uniden CXAI5698--the corded phone is good but the cordless phone has a poor range and doesn't lit up. I was thinking of taking it back for the AT&T E5908 but I think Uniden's quality is better as I always have hated AT&T corded phones from day one....more info
  • Serving it's purpose
So far so good. I just recently purchase and feel It's really too soon to give a review. So the five star rating applies to delivery and one month usuage....more info
