After reading reviews, I knew I would still need an audio monitor, and I do. This model has too much static. But the video is great and we are stretching the distance at which it was supposed to work - opposite ends of the house and upstairs versus downstairs. I would recommend it....more info
  • Great Product. It accomplishes Exactly What we needed
We got this Video Monitor System to watch our new son while he was in his bedroom. This System has been awesome!!! it is not going to be digital quality but it is very clear and we are able to watch our son crawl around his crip, stand up on the rails, throw his pacifier on the floor, etc. the system gives us a sense of security, knowing that we can see that he is ok even if he is crying or making noise. the alarm system is great because if he starts moving around in the middle of the night, the alarm will go off and wake us up so we can make sure he is ok. I was a little worried about some of the neg. feedback about static but it seems to work great in my house and we have a wireless network & so do a few of my neighbors....more info
  • Not the greatest!
The picture quality is not great at all. I still can't get the product to work through the electrical outlet... so constantly putting batteries in it and they are not lasting at all. Overall I wish I would have went with another model... I am not happy with this product at all! ...more info
  • good
This is the second baby monitor that we have owned in a year, and I must say it is the best. The picture gets 5 stars but the sound gets only 3. The one thing I have noticed on the video/sound monitors is they almost always have a popping noise. So we just purchased a cheap 900mhz sound monitor and it is crystal clear. This is definitely worth the money for the night vision alone. ...more info
  • Works!
My standards may not be as stringent as some other reviewers, but this product works in our home, and I give it 5 stars for that. We live in a zero lot line subdivision so we have lots of neighbors in close proximity and we received TONS of interference with other video monitors (we tried 3 different brands before this one). One popular brand even showed our neighbors baby when turned to channel A -- um, creepy, and no. The others received so much interference that literally all we got was static and hiss. This monitor worked really well. It knocked out our wireless router on channel 1, but when switched to channel 2, that issue went away entirely. The microwave disrupts it when its running, and sometimes you have to adjust the monitors position on the table if it starts to flicker a little, but overall, this unit works and works really well. Sound is great and if we turn it up loud we can hear the baby breathing -- even over ths white noise of the humidifier running. Its not a high definition picture, but its clear enough to see whats going on , and its in color. Overall, extatic with this purchase for the simple fact that this monitor works where so many others didn't....more info
  • Not as high-tech as they advertize
I bought this item because it seemed to be more professional than the true baby monitors, which seem to command a premium because they are blue and cute. Nevertheless, the product has disappointed because it is so sensitive to interference, including when we turn on the microwave in another room about 20-25 feet away from both the monitor and camera. The colors are also very poor and I have seen much better quality (and with less interference) on other baby monitors.

Otherwise, it's an ok product and we've particularly enjoyed the setting whereby it comes on when the camera detects a loud noise (such as crying)....more info
  • not recommended
I don't recommend this camera because it's not functional at night, the beam is way to focused so you can only see a very small portion of the crib. I would not buy it. The only positives is the sound and the alarm if your baby starts to cry....more info
  • Disappointing product that could be a lot better
The bad: Terrible range, lots of static in picture and audio, green LEDs way too bright (receiver lights up our bedroom even when video screen is off). And the biggie - it works on the same frequency as pretty much all consumer Wifi routers which means we have to unplug both cameras in order to use our wireless internet, *every* morning. Oh, and the monitor stand is very unstable - I usually lay it on its side. Smooth stuff. They're about 2 iterations away from a great product.

The good: The three available operating modes are nice. Night vision works well for us but we have the cameras really close to the cribs (twins). Sound alarm is nice since the actual audio has static (we turn the ambient audio off and just listen for the alarm).

Overall... wait for it... lame. I'll give it a solid "C". Better than nothing, but I'd recommend trying something else.

    Now where's my receipt......more info
  • Very reliable
This unit works great. I have a number of wireless products in my home and the only time I get interferance is right next to my computers. The resolution is more then adequate to see what is going on. I also get great range, end-to-end in a spralling ranch style home with lots of walls in between the camera and base. The night vision does not work well in a blacked out room, but with as little as a night light going it provides great resolution. Love the function to auto switch between the 3 cameras you can have linked to the base unit....more info
  • A great product!
I purchased the GX5201 system(camera and monitor) and an extra camera plus rechargeable batteries for both the monitor and cameras.

I purchased this system after extensive review of the products available on the market. I am the father of four children ages 12, 6, 2 and 8 months and made this purchase primarily to monitor the newborn while sleeping and the 2 year old during naps etc. However, I found that as a homeschool family we can also use this system to monitor the kids while they work on schoolwork and my wife and I cook, clean etc.

One of the main reasons I made this purchase was the quality of design. Many of the competitors products are "cute" and oversized...somewhat akin to a babies toy. The GX5201 system looks like what it is...an electronic device. The performance is fantastic with the exception of an occassional screen flicker here and there which as I understand is inherent to wireless technology. The optional rechargeable batteries were in my opinion a must and they do not disappoint. They are designed very well and fully integrate with the monitor and camera perfectly. The ability to move either of the cameras to any room is great and the charge is about 3-5 hours. I give my highest recommendation to the purchase of this product and cannot stress enough the additional purchase of the optional rechargeable batteries.

This review is entirely honest and I am in no way affiliated with this company.. just very pleased with a great product.

  • SVAT system
For the money this system works very well. On the positive side, it is economical and very easy to use. I purchased the system with 2 extra cameras (total of 3). Setup and operation was a piece of cake. Plug it in and go (just don't forget to set each camera to a different channel which is accomplished by a switch). When set on automatic, the system switches between cameras automatically so you get to see every camera. This was a great feature and so simple to use. One big negative, however, was that it apparently operates on a 2.4 Ghz frequency which means that your wireless home phone may interfere with it. I needed a new phone anyway so I simply bought a new 6.0 phone system which eliminated the interference. I also have a wireless home network, but don't seem to have noticed any problem (although some other users have reported issues). Although the cameras have IR capability, my experience has been that they need sufficient light to be effective. In extremely low light I couldn't make out the images. Quite good when there is sufficient light, though, and for the cost it performs well. The main attraction for me was the fact that the entire system is wireless.

All in all I have to give the system good marks because of it's ease of installation and setup while doing the job it is advertised to do. If you need a system that will operate in total darkness look elsewhere (but you will spend much more). ...more info
  • Awesome. Works great!
SVAT GX5201 Wireless Nightvision Video Monitoring System (Color)

My wife and I love this product. I honestly don't know how people got by before the advent of video baby monitors. The night vision works great and allows us a chance to relax and know our little one is sound asleep (or not). Some slight interference when using the wireless internet but it's nothing major.
Great product and a reasonable price. Will probably be adding a second camera soon....more info
  • Not worth the price
SVAT CX5201 Wireless Portable Video Monitor
The monitor works fine with the power adapter but does not work with batteries as it's supposed to do. The camera is OK for low light as it has infrared LEDS but the field of vision is limited, would be fine for baby watching but not enough to see around the crib if someone else is in the room until the person is by the crib....more info
  • Great monitor, value for money
This is a great product, well designed, particularly as compared to other baby video monitors on the market. It is small, not bulky, gets a great picture and works well. We have two cameras/two monitors, and have the rechargeable battery for the monitor, which improves the design issue of where the power cord attaches. Overall though, a quality product designed well....more info
  • Color Monitor
This product was excellent, just what my Neice needed for her toddler. It was well packaged and arrived as promised....more info
  • Only Video
If you need a video and a Sound monitor this is definitely NOT the right Monitor (So much static that there is no place for any sound from baby), Even if a video without any sounds is OK (even though the night vision works great) I still would not prefer this monitor (static effects the video too), It is definitely not worth the money, I will never ever buy more SVAT item's....more info
  • Better than expected
Pretty happy with this product. Chose this based on reviews and the ability to expand it to multiple cameras. Want this to double both as a baby monitor as well as security cameras for the house. Initial use was as a baby monitor. The picture is clearer than expected, and the night vision was also better than expected. Even in low light I can get a good enough picture to see what I need. The colors are not accurate, as the brown wooden crib appears light blue. Nevertheless, the accurate color reproduction is not what I bought the camera for. There is noticeable static and line distortion the farther away you get, and this is probably not great to use as something you leave on all night by your bedside unless you in a very nearby room. The wireless router also creates noticeable distortion - surfing the web and sending emails create additional static whenever data is sent or received. Overall though I am happy with it....more info
  • better than traditional baby monitors but.........
First, the picture on the screen in the product shot is hilarious. You will never see anything that clear or colors that vibrant. Then again, most people want to hear if their child is crying and maybe see if they've rolled over, or climbed out of crib etc. and for that purpose this works. I took this system traveling with me and its performance varied wildly. In some places it was totally unusable within 10 feet line of site. In others it worked from one end of a house to another. 2.4GHz wifi will interfere. For example every time I clicked on a link in my browser the monitor would go hazy. The bottom line is you will have to test it in your setting. Oh and like other reviewers said, the fact that you have to remove the batteries to plug it in is stupid. I modified, but I doubt most people want to take a soldering iron to their baby monitor out of the box.

Compared to most consumer electronics this is a pretty weak system. But
the sad fact is that baby monitors sold through babys-r-us and the like are of awful design and quality, and they are as expensive as this unit. It is the best option I have found.

    UPDATE**********
I have found this system completely blocks my wireless router's signal on channel 2. It has three channels for three cameras. On channel 1 the camera's image is so severely distorted as to be useless. I think this is due to my neighbor's wireless router, but I can't be sure. I have yet to try it on channel 3, but given the fact that I had planned to connect at least one more camera, I think this system is pretty much useless in my house. As I said above, this system is very dependent on your location. I am sorry that when editing an review you can't take away a star. ...more info
  • Great monitor!
We bought this about 2 weeks ago and wish we had bought it a long time ago. The camera has a very good picture for no light/low light settings (although you may need to adjust your monitor's brightness). The daytime/color picture is okay, but not great -- but since we only use the night settings, it doesn't make any difference to us.

We have the camera mounted on the wall, up by the ceiling, above our daughter's crib - which we found to give us the closest, most complete picture we could get. The mounting hardware was easy to use - the only dilemma was where to plug it in...

One design improvement that would be helpful is the placement of the AC adapter plug into the battery compartment. An upgrade to a rechargeable lithium ion battery would be great (like our other sound monitor).

As for interference, using the microwave does screw it up temporarily. The other issue is our wireless network which can cause some interference if the monitor is too close to the wireless router or our computer. Other than that, not too bad.

For the money, this is far and away better than any other product out there. I will highly recommend it to all of our friends with infants and small kids....more info
  • I love this item
I have an older version of the SVAT monitor system for my twins, and we love it. It's black and white, but it does a great job. My husband and I bought the new Color monitor system for my sister and her husband for their new baby. WOW! What a difference. It has a great picture and so many new features. We wish we had one for ourselves. I highly recommend the system. ...more info
  • Remote Camera and Receiver
Product works very well considering the fact that it has to go thru about 5 or six walls that are structured in steel. If it works this good in an environment that has a lot of interference, it should work great in normal environments....more info
  • good product if used in the right way. NOT LONG LASTING
You need to use it in an interference - free zone. It works great in our bedroom, but not downstairs. Also, the interference is MUCH less if you have the volume turned off. Which is fine for us, since we had a sound monitor from before, so we just use that with it. The only way it works sensibly is if you buy the rechargeable batteries to go with it. That way you can take it to another room when you need it, and plug it in when you need to, without having to take out all the batteries to plug it in (what a stupid design - whoever though of that should go back to design school). Caveat - the little clip that holds in the (heavy) rechargeable pack is very slight, and any bump will break it, so then the rechargeable battery just hangs off a chord (I want to complain to the company about this). But despite all these issues, I like it, because the image is really good when you're using the infra red in a really dark room and there is no static. Then again, maybe all monitors have this good an image. I just have not seen that many of them (btw - it's nothing as good as the photo they give you but it's still pretty good) - UPDATE A YEAR LATER: I bought this monitor after having a sound only one from Summer, because I wanted video. The video quality was really surprisingly good at night and excellent with light in the room. But there was interference when I turned the sound on. So for about a year we just used the sound monitor we had for sound and the SVAT monitor for picture. Not ideal but worked fine. I do recommend buying the rechargeable battery pack - it would drive me crazy to change batteries so often! But the clip for this is super flimsy and it broke off within a few weeks of having it. I contacted the manufacturer, they informed me could not send me a temporary replacement in advance (and that I had to pay for the shipping should I want to get it fixed because they're in Canada), and since my baby was still too young I could not afford to be without my monitor for even one day so I preferred not sending it back to get it fixed - it was something that I could tape together so I could still physically use it. So my spanking new monitor quickly looked like a bandaged wreck, but it worked well enough. Anyway, since then, about 2 months ago (and past its warranty date) the whole thing died, first the image faded for a few months and then the sound died (not that we used the sound much). So now it does not work at all. We are using a simple sound only monitor from Summer now that he's older that I had originally bought before I got the SVAT video monitor. It is much more low tech, but clearly longer lasting. I do feel that as a new mother, I needed to have those many months of seeing what he did to have the peace of mind that I did not have to rush in there - that in turn caused less interruptions for him and he's a great little sleeper as a result. It helped get to know his personality and understand that part of his getting to sleep routine is to thrash around like a mad man for 20 minutes, babbling, before he settled down. Now I don't need to see that (he's 2 years old) so I am not that bothered that the monitor broke. Of course, I had bought it because I thought that the fact that you could buy an extra camera was a great feature for when baby number two arrives. Clearly that won't be happening (though I just contacted the company to tell them of the untimely death of my monitor -if they offer to fix it for free, and pay for my shipping, I'll gladly then buy another camera for the arrival of number 2). Anyway, a product that I did like when it worked, just a shame that it worked for such a short amount of time. UPDATE A MONTH LATER: The company could not fix the monitor since it was past its warranty, but they offered me a highly reduced rate on a new one. I bought it. Despite all its issues I guess I still like it. Provides a great image of my little guy at night....more info
