Customer Reviews: - The best sylvester stallone movie
In my opinion LockUp is the best sylvester stallon movie ever. It is a great movie with the best performance of stallone. A must see....more info - P.U.!!
A silly, pointless film. The people who made it should be locked up...more info - Welcome to Hell...
One of Stallone's best movies, where he stars as Frank, a convict on the verge of being a free man when he gets transferred to the worst possible prison imaginable. It turns out the warden of the prison he's been transferred to has a grudge against him and sought him out specifically. This movie is like the unbeatable 'Shawshank Redemption' with an action film twist. Donald Sutherland plays the demonic warden and is excellent as usual.
Along the way, Frank befriends many of his inmates and helps them understand that once they become a part of the system and break, then they're owned by the warden. It quite frankly makes you care about some of the men inside the prison, like 'Shawshank' did, even though you know they pretty much all deserve to be in there.
It's a shame that many people have never heard of this movie, because it is Stallone's best effort aside from 'Rocky', 'Cop Land' & 'Rocky Balboa'. This is a very emotional movie that really keeps you involved with multiple twists and a great story. See it! You won't be disappointed!...more info - Don't lock this one away
Lock up pleasantly surprised me. I went into this movie with a feeling I'd get a classic B movie with lots of action and gritty acting. Well, I was sure wrong. The plot may have been an old regime, but they made it very interesting. Sly Stone is a great actor that doesn't get enough credit for is acting abilities. He can sure carry a movie. The side actors also did a tremendous job. There were tons of good actors, and they all pulled their weight. I thought the directing was decent. It was nothing to gripe at, but it wasn't any Hitchcock or Kubrick. Overall, Lock up was a refreshing site to see an obvious "average" movie turn great. 5 Stars...more info - Stallone Is Pure Genius
The thick plot that this movie boasts, combined with (in my opinion) Sly Stallone's best performance as a professional actor, places "Lock Up" amongst the elite films of our time. It is almost impossible for the viewer not to feel Leone's utter pain and frustration, and by the time the movie has ended, to feel as if he or she, too, was locked up. There is absolutely nothing that this movie lacks...great acting (Stallone is brilliant), pure drama and emotion, and above all else, excitement. Seeing Leone single-handidly take over the prison football game is an image that will remain with me for a long, long time. Furthermoe, Donald Sutherland is equally impressive in a lesser role. The initial meeting between he and Leone is bone-shaking, as Sutherland proceeds to utter the infamous greeting that sets the tone for the flick..."Welcome to Southgate, Leone..." and with that, the viewer's journey through teror, tumult, and ultimate victory has begun. It is a complete shame that this film was not recognized as one of the best of its day. In my opinion, critics of the late-eighties were not ready for the State-of-the-Art performance put forth by Stallone, which set the way for other movies in the near future. Truth be told, Stallone revolutionized the role of the actor in "Lock Up", and it is about time that he recieve his well-deserved due....more info - Derek from Johannesburg
 BEST PRISON DRAMA MOVIE
After Rocky 1, this is Stallone's BEST movie! (the reason why this is in my DVD collection)..
Anyone that can say that the Shawshank Redemption was a better prison drama, obviously wasn't watching this movie.
The movie shows the tough side and the human side to a man trying to make the best of a bad situation (in prison).
Stallone's brilliant performance highlights both these qualities.
There'll never be another Sylvester Stallone - only modern-day imitations.....more info - For Sly Fans Only
Okay, not a great movie... but if you like Stallone, it's worth checking out. Without Stallone, this thing probably wouldn't have made it to the theaters; it has the feel of a straight-to-cable flick. Definitely not a classic prison escape movie.Actually, Tom Sizemore is worth seeing here too, if you're a fan of his. He has some nice moments as the deceptively helpful inmate that befriends Stallone. The DVD is pretty inexpensive, but does include a couple modest special features. Usually, these low-priced DVDs are 'movie only' editions, but "Lock Up" has two short featurettes. One is a 7 minute 'making of' promo, and the other-- not listed on the case-- is entitled "Sylvester Stallone" and is a 3 minute piece featuring more interview clips with Stallone. Pretty cool that the DVD producers added that. Also included is the theatrical trailer and decent cast/crew/production notes....more info - Not bad at all !!
Lock Up is certainly one of Stallone's best movie. I think Stallone works best if he plays humble person like the one he did in this movie. A model prisoner in a minimum security prison who has 6 months left in his sentence, suddenly got transfered to maximum security prison by an evil warden (Donald Sutherland). Nice supporting cast include: John Amos and the lovely Darlenne Flueggel. The DVD itself is OK. The picture is bright and sharp and the Dolby Surround 2.0 is OK certainly better than the 1.5 given by "Wide Screen Review". ..., this certainly is a recommended buy for Stallone fans....more info - Very good jail movie
This was a very good action movie with great characters. Donald Sutherland was great and also John Amos(father on Good Times) had a good part. Stallone was his usual self. If it is action you crave, this is one of the good ones....more info - Not so bad
I think this is better than "Tango and Cash, for sure... Stallone plays his part well, it's not his fault the script he receives..The supporting cast is good, also. With all the flaws, I remembering watching this in the movies a long time ago and I ound it great!...more info - most underrated stallone film ever
This simply is the most underrated film stallone has ever done since the other most underrated stallone film before it over the top.Wonderfull film about frank leone who sits out his prison scentence quietly until donal sutherland transvers him to his prison with the goal to kill him.
Watch stallone play a nice guy who just tries to survive. And once again
bill conti delivers a perfect score for a stallone film. The music here is just perfect....more info - Could have been better.
Was not as good as I thaught it would be. Could have been better....more info - Stallone provides common kicks in Lock-Up
I liked this movie, a lot. Sure, the whole plot is weak, but the football sequence and the Dallas turn at the end were cool. And it certainly isn't any worse than other Stallone fare such as Over The Top, Rocky V, Cliffhanger, etc. I recommend it for all Stallone fans!...more info
