Customer Reviews:

  • It is getting much better
I have held off getting a card scanner for a long time because I knew that it would be a challenge to find one that could pick up all of the characters and put them in the correct place in Outlook. This one has come a long way. You still need to check each card carefully. Because each company can have such unique titles or logos often only part of the company name is picked up, or a number 1 is seen as a number 7. I do find, that though I type very quickly, this scan process is effective. A bit pricy though for not being able to be "perfect." They do have a 30 day trial which for some people might be the ideal answer....more info
  • So easy to use
This piece of equipment was so easy to set up. Literally within 5 minutes of opening up the package, I was scanning my cards. I still haven't figured out the Ipod sharing or the Outlook email stuff, but the actual scanning part is a piece of cake....more info
  • It's 98% of perfect
This gizmo works great. It gets a little confused on the OCR especially with hand written stuff. We scanned about 300 cards and had less than 20 that were any kind of problem. It's a real bargain if you deal with business cards, survey cards, inventory, etc....more info
  • Excellent Product - Easy to Use
The CardScan is an excellent product. Very easy to set up and use. If you get a lot of business cards in your profession, and you want to have a very functional and organized contact management system - this is it. Once you scan the card, you can quickly and easily click on the contact and send them and email, or visit their website - all this is done automatically and flawlessly with CardScans OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. It may seem pricy at around $250, but it's well worth it. ...more info
  • Much better than prior version / very precise.
    This thing really works.
I owned a prior version and the software was kind of clumpsy.

This new model is not. I'm a Business Man living in Sth. America and it detects Spanish card with no problem.

A bit pricey and not very portable, but if you like to keep your contact network in mint condition this is a must.

  • finally a solution that works!
Awesome! I have entered in over 1500 leads and am able to manage them easily. I can't believe this has been out there and I haven't noticed it!...more info
  • Excellent scanner
I bought this for my office, as I am perpetually behind on keeping contacts current on my computer. This scanner makes it very easy. The process is quick and the character recognition - despite one of the other reviews I read - is very accurate. I was constantly amazed at how well the scanner and the software performed....more info
  • Exactly what I needed.
I am so far very happy with this product. It's quick and extremely accurate (I have to correct 1/15 cards which I find to be a very decent ratio). The best part is the software. It's very easy to use, and does exactly what you want with no unnecessary options. I find too many programs today have so much clutter that it's impossible to find the useful buttons. Overall I am very happy with it.

I am also quite intrigued with the "at you service" product that allows you to store and access your contacts online. I haven't signed up to it because I have an uneasy feeling having my contacts on the web. Has anyone had any experience with it? Please leave feedback if you have.

  • Card Scan
The scanner and software exceeded my expectations. Setup instructions are simple. The scanner is fast and accurate. And when you do need to edit, the process is easy. The software also provides additional excellent features such as the ability to maintain a parallel contact database in addition to Outlook. ...more info
  • Time saver!!
Works as advertised. Software is a bit hard to get through, but is fine after learning.

Has saved hours on card fileing and then re-finding them!...more info
  • Great at what it does...
For scanning business cards, there's nothing better. However, the software provided looks like it comes from the 90s. It could be much nicer and do so much more... Still - recommended....more info
  • Works as expected
We purchased this for our VP to use. I tested it and it works just as expected. No problems installing the software or configuring it to sync with Outlook. The scanner was properly detected as plug 'n' play in Windows XP and there were no issues....more info
  • Horrible, Impossibly Horrible Tech Support - Don't Buy! Please!
I purchased my 800c Executive Cardscan at the National Association of Realtors convention in Las Vegas in November 2007. However, the boxes on the floor were spoken for and the company was essentially "sold out" at the convention, so I agreed to pay extra (tax and shipping) to have one sent to me.

A couple of weeks later the box arrived. By box I mean a cardboard shipping box. Inside it was a loose Cardscan with no cord, software, packing material or any note of any kind. It was as if a Cardscan was thrown in a box and mailed to me.

I called the company and after about four or five calls where every person was in disbelief that this had occurred, I finally got someone on the phone who agreed to ship me a new one and would send along a postage paid sticker for me to mail back what I received.

I received the new one in late December and didn't get around to opening it until January 6th. I also mailed back the loose Cardscan that had been sent to me.

My new Cardscan will not install. I am getting a variety of error messages that are not on the website.

On January 7, 2008, I called the tech support line at 1 PM PST and waited on hold for 35 minutes before hanging up -- no one answered.

Later that day, I called again at 2:00 PM PST to try again -- no answer -- and I hung up extremely frustrated.

I spent FIVE hours on January 7th into the evening trying to fix this on my own to no avail.

On January 8, 2008, I woke up and immediately called Cardscan. It was 7:00 AM PST. I waited on hold 30 minutes and my landline phone battery actually died, so I hung up. No response.

Next I called "customer service" and Stephanie answered. Stephanie said that the company is very busy "because of the holidays" and they only have three people employed in tech support which includes one manager. She said I could leave a message or wait in the que as she called it. The manager is named Dawna Madden. She never returned any of my messages.

Stephanie told me the the maximum wait time was 8 minutes!

I called again and this time they were at lunch and all phones in tech support go to an answering machine, which of course they don't respond to. Closed for lunch! How high tech of them.

I asked for a manager when I called Stephanie back. I was transferred to Andrew, the customer serviced manager. But first she asked: "is this about tech support?" I guess she gets these calls a lot!

I told her it wasn't because I didn't want her to block me from talking to a manager.

Andrew was helpless and not helpful. Worthless! He told me I could wait in the line or leave a message. He said that he had nothing to do with tech support.

So I left a message approximately for Dawna (again) abou four hours ago with still no call back.

My Cardscan is not installed, I am wasting too much time on this and if the company is growing so fast, they need to hire tech support people today. This product doesn't install correctly and for those of you who got it to work, bless you! You're the lucky ones. Run, don't walk away from Cardscan. They are now owned by Rubbermaid who owns like five billion small companies, so don't expect them to help you.

  • Executive CardScan Review - Nice, but NOT Highly Accurate
I would have thought by now that current OCR software would make reading business cards fairly accurate and reliable. I am the President of a company and expect to be able to quickly enter business cards without having to spend a lot of time reviewing for accuracy. However, I have to make modifications to scanned cards about 50% of the time which arguably defeats having the device. A quick typist could enter just as fast.

My recommendation is that if you are quick on the keyboard, this is not a great investment unless you can afford to waste the money. If you are slow at data entry, this probably will save time over the course of a 100 or so cards.

More time or money needs to be spent on improving the OCR software. When they can reliably obtain 80% or more accuracy, I would more favorably endorse....more info
  • Vista bug a deal killer
We bought the 800c to install on a new Vista machine. However, it will not run. Out IT person has searched the net and tried tech support. After 30 min he was disconnected. Hard to believe they can not solve this.
    Beware....more info
  • What a time saver! Easy to use and install.
I network a lot to promote my product and services. Before I bought the CardScan, the cards would pile up; the thought of typing cards into Outlook was a boring chore that never got done. Now, in less than 10 minutes, I can take an evening's worth of cards and get them into Outlook and my phone.

The scanning and OCR is extremely reliable for such an inexpensive device. (I used to develop OCR applications.) There are some cards and fonts that don;t scan well, but thta is to be expected.

All in all, anyone in sales, marketing or any position where collecting a lot of cards is important should have one....more info
  • One of the most useful office accessories I've ever used
I've used a Cardscan scanner on and off for number of years, and recently acquired the newest one. The package is in two parts, the scanner and the software.

The scanner is light but slightly larger than the smallest scanners in the market. Unlike the older Cardscan models, however, it no longer require a power cord (which is a huge improvement in portability). It scans in colour and works perfectly well even with heavy continuous use. Looks nice the desk too.

The software is the real heart of the Cardscan package and in addition to being a great software for scanning and recognition, it does some really nice things; like integrating to an Outlook address book without having to export the records to Outlook. Included also is Cardscan At your Service (the online service for storing and managing your scans). That has proved really convenient; my assistant scans the cards, and I can access them almost instantly at home or on travel. The setup is pretty seamless and the recognition, as usual, very impressive.
