The compact yet powerful high-performance system employs a quartet of Odyssey neodymium full-range drivers to fill your room with clear, accurate sound and all the volume you (and your friends and neighbors) can handle. It's the perfect accessory for bedrooms, smallish apartments, basements, and any other space where a full-size speaker system is pure overkill.

The On Stage II incorporates Apple's universal iPod dock adapter, which works with most docking versions of the iPod, including the iPod video 5G and 5.5G and the iPod nano 1G and 2G. Simply slide your iPod into the dock and you're set--no additional cords to connect or adapters to fuss with. As an added convenience, the On Stage II also offers an auxiliary input for connecting a variety of other portable audio devices, including the iPod shuffle, personal MP3 and CD players, desktop and laptop computers (all platforms), and satellite radio receivers. As long as your portable audio device has a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack connection, you can play the audio through your On Stage II speaker.

As a bonus, the On Stage II comes with a wireless remote control, giving you the freedom to enjoy your music from across the room or in another room--up to 50 feet away (including through walls). The system itself, meanwhile, includes easy-to-use touch controls for the volume and mute, and even remembers your last volume setting after it shuts down. The system, which offers a frequency response of 80 Hz to 20 kHz, measures 7 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall and weighs 1 pound. It's also backed by a one-year warranty.

• Mediocre at best
  I wanted something in our kitchen area because we spend the most time there. However, I wanted a unit which was small but with a big sound for those times when I wanted to crank it up a little as I would do with my big system in another part of the house.
  
  Based upon the reviews I read here, at CNET and other places I initially purchased the Altec-Lansing IM600. The sound quality was decent except serious distortion when the volume was turned up a bit.
  
  So the search continued and I purchased the JBL On Stage II. The unit is about the size of an over-sized bagel, but the sound is even poorer than the Altec Lansing unit. I mean really, the sound is only agreeable at the lowest volumes. Anything louder and it becomes tinny and shrill. There are no tone controls, the a/c adapter is huge and no matter what I do I cannot get the remote to function. I took this unit to my office where I am not able to use much volume.
  
  The third unit I bought is the Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo-i. I purchased it after a brief demo at our local audio retailer. It reminded me of some very small Boston speakers I used to own which produced surprising sound from such a small package. Believe me, there is NO comparison between these three units. If it's room filling sound you want, and bass, which, if not reduced with the tone controls, may set up a resonance from anything nearby which isn't fastened down, this is the unit to get.   I would recommend the JBL On-stage II for many reasons. One being the design is (like mentioned below) very eye catching. It feels very sturdy when holding it. It comes with a controller with a clip on the back of it. The buttons on the controller are "play/pause", Previous song/rewind", "Next song/fast foward", "Volume up & down". Also on the front of the docking station it has a "-" to decrease volume and a "+" to increase volume. The power button is located on the back. Which when powered on lights up green. Another plus is that it charges your Ipod while in docking station. I was very impressed with the sound quality for such a small speaker system. I've also showed this to others who felt the same way about the sound quality. It has a nice deep bass, not a booming one. This is a perfect speaker system for an apartment.
  The only thing that I could say I didnt like about it is the size of the a/c adapter is rather large. I can easily overlook this because of the quality of sound/design. On the other hand it does unplug from the docking station. Im sure if you wanted you could buy a smaller adapter.

  I had long been a fan of JBL audio, until now. These speakers have great sound for the size. However, the unit stopped charging the ipod on the second day. After a few weeks the volume control works only sporadically. The unit shipped without the remote, and a replacement was not provided despite sending in all the requested information....more info

  This little docking station packs a whollop of sound into a little piece of equipment! What a great purchase - charges my iPod when I'm not listening, produces incredible (loud!) sound when I am, and I can carry it from room to room in my little apartment (not that I need to). I love this thing! If I have to critique anything about it, it would be that the remote control do more than turn your iPod on, off, increase/decrease volume, and fastforward/rewind to songs. But hey, I need the exercise so who cares that I have to manually change playlists?!?! Great purchase!!!...more info

• Works very well!
  I've been using this speaker for a couple months now and it looks great and sounds great. I like that it's not larger than necessary. It fits well on my tv stand. I haven't used it outside, but for in my home, I love it. The remote works very well, even if it's not pointed directly at the unit. I plan on purchasing another for my bedroom. As long as you aren't planning on using it for a party of 200 people in a huge room, it's a great buy!...more info

• Nice little product which lacks bass
  First of all I'm a big time JBL fan. I recently replaced all my car speakers with JBL and just love them.
  
  Coming back to the "JBL On Stage II"... this is a nice little product. Wanted something to actually hook my ipod into after getting back from work to charge it. The unit is simple to setup and I did not find the adapter too bulky. It comes with an remote and has a nice feature to lock it if you are not using the remote.
  
  I have 2 complaints against this product:
  #1. This unit lacks bass. I played songs heavy on bass and was not impressed.
  #2. The equalizer settings on my ipod does not have any effect when playing music through this system.
  
  Something else I noticed was unusual... I have this unit hooked to my computer. When I switch the unit OFF (with my computer being ON) the ipod still remains ON showing that it is being charged....more info

• Great sound
  I bought 2 sets on black Friday. One of the AC adaptor had poor connection and won't work. I tried to call JBL's warranty service but the complicated phone system really confused me. Finally, I e-mailed their service department and surprisingly received very quick response (within a few hours) from a "real person". He ordered a new AC adaptor and arrived my home 5 days later. This speaker is small but the sound is clear and powerful. Do not expect a lot of base. You must plug into the wall outlet in order to turn it on (no battery powered). Even you turn off the power button, it can still charge your i-Pod. ...more info

  This product works really well. It has great sound and takes up very little space. The remote is a nice feature too.   I bought this unit in Dec. 08. I like the sound quality and easy of use greatly. The built seems to be very solid and I have no issues with the unit at all.
