Customer Reviews: - A good, serviceable phone with great features
The Uniden CEZAI998 is a very easy phone to set up. For us older folks it has nice large buttons and an easy-to-read display with great sound and clarity for incoming calls. I would, however, prefer that the handset of the cordless phone provide better "side tone" to hear my own voice during calls and that it also have a speakerphone capability. In addition, the flat white plastic construction shows kitchen residue if not wiped down repeatedly. Overall, I would recommend this phone for people who want the features important to those with less than perfect sight and hearing while giving the freedom of a cordless phone in addition to the base unit with speakerphone....more info - Okay phone for hearing not sight problems
Phone does everything it should- talking CID, Speaker phone, answering machine etc. Both the corded and cordless sets have good increase in hearing volumes and ringers. Draw back on cordless handset is the backlight on the cid window is not bright like the corded set window and is hard to see unless room is brightly lit. Otherwise it is agreat phone....more info - Range of phone
This product has absolutely no range from the base unit. Very disappointed with this performance....more info - Its too easy
Really like this unit. The biggest problem with setting it up is its so easy to set up that we wanted to overcomplicate it. Sound quality, range and ease of use really make this lower priced unit well worth the money. The large easy to read numbers are great. We are entertained by the pronounciation of the names of the callers by the caller ID voice. Ok, so we are easily entertained... The large information screen is a help. With our old phone, we had to run to see who was calling and then have to put on our glasses to see the name/number. This phone and answering machine takes care of those problems. Haven't tried it out in the south forty, but the cordless phone works everywhere in the house and garage without any static or problems. The cordless phone has better reception then our older Uniden. Guess there have been some improvements over the last few years. It took a little while to get use to not hearing your own voice in the phone when you talked but its not a issue now. The speaker phone makes one sound like your in a barrel, but we hear the other caller fine. Maybe if we change our phone location that may improve. Very pleased with this set up. Will see how well it lasts over time....more info - all the great features i expect from uniden
i replaced an older uniden w/ this one & so far hv not been disappointed. 2 things: 1) i cannot hear the voice when i screen calls like i could on my old answering machine. i've followed the directions in the manual to increase the volume, but all it seems to do is make the ringer louder. 2) when the phone rings & i answer & say 'hello', it takes about a second before the caller can hear me. otherwise, everything else is great, i've gotten accustomed to the color of the phone (white) & think it looks retro (but some may want it in black). i like the remote charging station for the handset which means that i can still hv the phone near me @ night. i wish i could/would hv gotten it w/ speaker capability on the handset (i'm not sure it comes that way). very clear voice reception & easy setup for time, date, day, etc....more info - CEZA1998 Uniden 5.8 phone
Way more phone than my wife thought she was getting. Best phone have had to date and this includes the top two big names which we are also using.
You WILL NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS PHONE. Voice is far clearer and has better buttons than my new Panasonic. ...more info - We're not elderly or disabled and we love it!
We bought this phone even though we're in our thirties with healthy eyes and ears. We keep this phone in our home office, and it's the only phone in the house. We can take the wireless to the workshop, basement or kitchen, but the corded base means the phone never runs out during a conference call (a problem with our older cordless). We also love the spoken caller ID feature - if we're out of the room we don't need to run in to see how important the call is! In my mind, big easy to read buttons make the phone easy to use. The whole set up is just the right mix of intuitive ease (big buttons, easy to read displays, good portability, corded base) and technical sophistication (caller ID, light up ringing, speakerphone)....more info - Great phone!
This is a fabulous phone. Absolutely one of the best we've tried. It was a purchase for my 70-year-old mother which I made after reading the reviews here, and she just loves it! Dad was an old AT&T man so you can only imagine how picky they are about phones. And, after many, many attempts, this one fit the bill. The sound is fabulous, but it also contains the old fashioned push button type phone with an attached extension, with the clarity that resembles the old Bell Telephone system phones. (Too bad they're not free like they used to be in the good old days!) Mom set this up by herself without any difficulties whatsoever, so if you're thinking about a purchase for an older person, or even a young person just starting out, this is a great investment and one that will be around for quite awhile. Highly, highly recommend!...more info - Just What Mom Wanted!
I helped my nearly 90-year old mom choose a phone to replace a similar one that had stopped working, and which had been discontinued. We checked all the alternatives, and found this to be the best. It arrived on time, and she managed to set it up without too much additional help. It works fine and she's very pleased to have both the cordless phone and corded base. ...more info - EXCELLENT PHONE
ABLE TO HEAR THE PHONE VERY WELL. THE RED FLASHING LIGHTS WHEN THE PHONE RINGS ALERTS YOU TO INCOMING CALL IF YOUR HEARING IS BAD. THE LARGE NUMBERS ARE VERY EASY TO SEE. I WOULD DEFINITELY PURCHASE ANOTHER PHONE LIKE THIS IN A NEW YORK SECOND...more info - Nice corded/cordless phone
This phone was perfect! Exactly the features I was looking to get. I puchased it for my 77-year old mother and it had to be uncomplicated. She had a Uniden cordless phone before and was comfortable using the speed dial on the cordless handset. The caller ID announcement is hard to understand, but she loves all the visual indicators. I would purchase Uniden again....more info - Great phone!
Perfect condition ~ exactly as pictured ~ excellent price ~ totally pleased with purchase and delivery....more info - Easy!
I bought this phone for my parents, and it's perfect! It does everything they need it to do, and then some. Having the integrated answering machine gets an extra gadget out of the house. It's white, so although it is bulky, it doesn't overwhelm against the white kitchen wall. The integrated cordless base station gets yet another electronic gadget out of the house (before, they had separate corded and cordless phones) while still keeping a corded phone in place for blackouts/emergencies. Setup was super easy, even mounting it on the wall, which I particularly appreciated since I did the setup (!). The large buttons are handy, and I really like the emergency number button being there. So far, everything has worked with no problems, and there has been no interference from other phones or networks. As of now, I can completely recommend this phone. ...more info - Large Button Phone WITH MESSAGE SYSTEM?
We looked 'everywhere' including Consumer Reports Mag for a dependable, easy to use, corded, large button phone that had IT'S OWN MESSAGE SYSTEM.
This one fit the bill. We only need the lined set so the cordless handset remains in the box. Simplicity is the name of the game for an elderly mom....more info - Great Safety Item
This was purchased for elderly parents home. They had problems with the small numbers on their other phones and we found they were unable to use their old phone in an emergency to contact 911. In addition my step-father wears hearing aids in both ears and still has problems hearing on a regular telephone. I installed this systems for them and it has worked great and he can use the speaker mode and hear real well and can also do better than any other system using the receiver. It would help if the base unit had more than 4 speed dial numbers but at least it does have the four for emergencies....more info - Works as advertised
I purchased this phone for my mother who is 91 and still quite active. Obviously ones hearing, sight becomes impaired when you grow older and the same applies to other senses. I set this up for her with the extension phone and she is quite content. The set up was VERY SIMPLE. The volume control on both the main unit and extension works well for her, larger numbers, backlight, blinking ringer light, loud ringer, etc. The controls don't have the complexity that many phones have. Seems the older generation has difficulty comprehending advanced electronics. All seems to work great and she is doing just fine with it. Having the main unit as a cord type phone is a good option in the event of power failure. As far as the research I've done, before purchase, this is the best value for the money spent for someone with age related impairments. I would suggest keeping the manual under the cordless phone if a future adjustment is necessary. Those that still have their ageing parents know what I'm saying. The reason for four stars is simply the time factor. It's difficult to determine how it will hold up in the long run. For example, how will it work when she is 115? Ok . . . I'm an optimist. :)...more info - Excellent Sound
The quality and design of this phone answering machine is excellent. The caller ID announcement is perfect for when you are not near the phone base to see who is calling. The handset has many features for visual ring, sound adjustments, caller ID visual. I would recommend this for anyone that is hearing or visually impaired. ...more info - OK Phone, but Plenty of Room for Improvement
This phone was purchased for my aunt & uncle, both in their 90's and living in a two-story house. Some of this phone's features are well thought-out and work perfectly, such as the one-touch speed dial buttons and paging from the corded base unit. This phone has several shortcomings, however, that would prevent me from choosing it again (except that one one else seems to offer a better alternative):
* No battery backup--after every power failure, I have to go over and reset the answering machine clock
* Emergency call button poorly located on the cordless handset--easy to press by mistake
* Pager button is also hard to find on the cordless and it doesn't have any one-touch speed dial buttons
* Answering machine buttons are small and difficult to read with poor eyesight--especially for elderly users who aren't familiar with the symbols used on button labels
* Handset audio is mediocre, although speakerphone clarity & mic sensitivity are very good (no speakerphone on cordless handset)
My biggest complaint about this system is that it is non-expandable. There is no way to affiliate an additional cordless handset to use with this system. I guess they assume all seniors & hearing/vision-impaired persons are living in 2-room apartments....more info - phone for sight impaired
I bought this phone for my 70 year old mom. She is sight impaired due to diabetes. She loves this phone for ease of use and she loves the built in answering machine. It also comes with a cordless handset that she has by her bed. The quality is excellent. In fact when my phone goes out I will buy this phone for my household. I would recommend this product. ...more info - GREAT PHONE FOR HEARING/VISION IMPAIRED
I wish I'd found this phone years ago for a lovely lady who is 80, hard of hearing and suffering from macular degeneration. The large, lit, buttons were great but she especially appreciated clarity of the wireless handset. She said she could hear better on that handset than any other phone she had ever had. Great phone!...more info - Disappointed with defective product
I ordered this phone for my dad to replace the phone he'd had for twenty years. I thought it would be great since I saw it reviewed in Consumer Reports, it has a lot of useful features and I'd had a Uniden cordless for several years. This phone has been a let-down and a hassle, though, since after he's been talking on the phone for 15 minutes or so, the volume starts to fade out to the point that he can barely hear the person on the other end of the line. He can adjust the volume initially, but it keeps fading nonetheless. I can verify that this is not related to his hearing either since I've tried it myself. We did some troubleshooting and nothing worked, so I thought it was perhaps just one defective phone and got Uniden to send a new one (another $10). Now the problem is happening again on the second phone. I would not order this model again and particularly not for anyone who has any kind of hearing problem. ...more info - Good Product, Good Service
This product is as advertised--easy to use, good sound and fits our needs very well. The seller shipped the order right away and it arrived quickly and in perfect condition....more info - Uniden CEZAI998 EZ-Dial
The ordering and receiving process was quick. The product operates as advertised. The electronic voice stating the caller's name is not really clear. The answering machine however is more clear when you create a message with your voice and the messages received are clear. There are many options. The remote cordless works well but occassionally has a hollow sound. I am satisfied overall but would have preferred a cordless main station....more info - Finally a phone that is easy to see and use!
My 89 year old Mom is spry for her age, but she has some hearing and vision issues, and has never taken easily to figuring out glitches with things like VCRs, phones, or clock radios. Things for her must be as simple to setup and use as possible, preferably without requiring a magnifying glass to read the buttons or a 3 hour trip each way on my part to take care of any glitches. I am absolutely ecstatic to report that Uniden has finally and at long last come out with a telephone system that is thoughtfully designed for the non-techno-geek segment of the market! The large lighted buttons and hearing aide compatability are why I bought this phone, but the ease of setup and use are why I'm writing this review. Other reviewers have mentioned most of the features, but I'll add that the user's guide has even been printed in larger type. My Mom is now extolling the virtues of this phone to all of her friends!...more info - uniden phone
The phone has answered all our needs I do have two minor complaints. Not enough space for storing phone numbers and a telephone cord that is much too short. Had to go to Walmart to get a longer cord.Do love the phone though....more info - Can't see too well, hard of hearing.. listen up and look at these
Like other posters, I purchased these for my parents who are aging gracefully. The phones are easy to hear with the volume boost and the ringer will wake the dead (or heavy napper). The caller ID screen is easy to read and the buttons are easy for arthritic fingers. It's about time someone made a phone like this with these features. You can always find a big button phone, but no large screen, and the loud ringers others offer are those high pitched piezo electric that are difficult to hear without hearing aids. I aslo purchased the stand alone cordless model which I have no complaints about. ...more info - Easy to Use
I bought this product for my elderly mom and she was able to see the caller ID and use the product with ease. One downside was that she accidently pressed the 911 button twice and the police were at her door. I reprogrammed it so that it dials my number instead and it worked out perfectly. ...more info - Great Value
I wanted a corded phone to ensure access in case of a power outage, I wanted an answering machine so that I could get rid of the overpriced Voicemail package from the phone company, I wanted buttons I could see without my reading glasses AND I wanted a cordless phone. This product filled the bill. EVERYTHING in one package! The base also has a speakerphone for handsfree conversations. Only drawback is the color: white, which is difficult to keep clean, so unless you are fussy about smudges, this is the one!...more info - Product is good, package was missing needed items
This phone is great for my elderly, hearing impaired father. However, the package was missing the phone cords! I emailed Amazon for help to correct the problem. Amazon was prompt to reply, only to inform me I needed to communicate with Uniden directly for the parts. A convenient means to purchase has become quite a hassle! :(...more info - Good Phone
I liked everything about this phone, especially since it was for my wifes parents. They and I liked everything exept the expandability of this unit. There is not a very big choice on phones for eyesight or slight hearing loss
impaired people. This unit would get 5 stars if it were expanable to at least 3 units. ...more info
