Wireless headphones are popular among home-theater devotees who like to indulge in uninhibited late night movies, as well as music lovers who don't want to be tied down to their receivers or computers. Sennheiser is one of Germany's leading headphone manufacturers and a major proponent of wireless technology, so we couldn't wait to try the RS130. The Sennheiser RS130s are very light, just 9.8 ounces, and we found them extremely comfortable over a long evening of watching DVDs. This set of Open-Air headphones comes with a stylish base station/charger that houses a 900MHz wireless transmitter. The newly revised system is fitted with Sennheiser's Intelligent Auto Tuning system, which automatically selects the best of three available base-to-headset channels to ensure the lowest-possible distortion and noise. To charge the headphones' two AAA nickel-metal-hydride batteries, just place the RS130s on the cradle of the transmitter base. Fully charged, the headphones will play for as long as 22 hours with built-in volume control. The base/charger can be mounted on the wall or placed near your components. All of the adapters and necessary cables are included for stereo output. The RS130 also features Sennheiser's SRS Headphone virtual-surround-sound system. SRS is compatible with two-channel audio sources such as CDs and DVDs. SRS opened up the sound a bit so that it was less stuck inside the listener's head, but it also made the sound more echo and reverberant. Some people will like the effect, others won't. We didn't and opted to switch it off.

While many wireless headphones suffer from poor reception, the RS 130s have the problem licked with intelligent auto tuning and a self-learning automatic signal level control that provides maximum signal reception and a range of up to 150 meters. The headphones are lightweight, too, making them very comfortable to wear. The included transmitter and stand makes recharging the headphone batteries easy; simply hang the headphones on the charging cradle and you're good to go. With an operating time of approximately 22 hours, though, plan on spending most of your time enjoying rich sound and maximum mobility.

  I purchase the headphones April 27, 2009 and it quit working exactly one month later. There is no customer service number available for the manufacturer. There is no live person to talk to regarding any service problems at the Amazon.com site. This is not a fun experience.

• Super quality of super product
  The signal strength is superior, very comfortable on ears. Battery longs for the hours and charge station keep the headset charged every time. This was my second set. Right now I can use both headsets connected to one of the stations. I would buy this product again in the future....more info
• very solid pair of headphones
  I've had these for a month and am very pleased overall. I live in a high rise and sit about 12 feet from the transmitter, and listen to tv shows rather than music with it primarily.
  When the frequency is clear, about 80% of the time, the sound is very rich, warm, good low and high end, as satisfying as wired headphones. Some nights, there is some distortion, and I don't what is interfering. I would recommend this to anyone that misses having the sound up high at night while the kids are sleeping. ...more info
• Couldn't be happier
  Bought these for my 88 year old mother-in-law to use while watching TV. They work perfectly. They are easy to use and clear as a bell. She is technologically challenged but has no problems with these. Might buy a pair for myself....more info

  The best wireless headphones I have used. Excellent work from Sennheiser. It is true that you have a light noise at the background but it is barely noticeable and you could minimize it with tuning. You really can't get anything better than this at this price range (100 bucks)...more info

  The Sennheiser RS 130 headphones produce a good sound and are confortable to use. As far as you do not move around they function perfectly even when you are several meters far from the sound source. If you do move, it does not matter how far you are, they produce a "hissing" noise from time to time, probably related to some particular position changes. I guess that it is impossible to eliminate this noise. Perhaps it is the price that you have to pay for getting free of cables. Anyway, I am happy with these headphones as I can listen to my musics at a reasonable volume without disturbing anyone and without needing to stay attached to my sound system by a cable....more info

  I purchased this unit about six weeks ago. Was very easy to hook up and use after the initial battery charge was completed. The sound is very clear and the controls on the headphone are no problem to use. The unit gives good sound quality when I walk to another room or outside so I don't miss anything.   bought them a month ago. Nice sound. Put the base in a closet downstairs and was able to use it upstairs in my house. Of course, there is the occasional hiss sound when you move far from the base, and this is to be expected in any wireless headphone. if you can live with that, these phones are great. • Should have bought these a long time ago
  I bought this wireless headset to watch tv/movies without disturbing others in the house at night. They work flawlessly! The range is great - clear reception not just throughout the 3 story house, but they can be used from the corner of our front yard to the corner of our back yard.
  
  I've hooked the base unit up to the entertainment receiver so I can listen to tv/dvd/vhs/cd/radio as I wish. The sound quality is actually better than the traditional speakers used for the entertainment center. Sometimes I even wear the headphones when the family is watching TV so I can have an even better sound experience!

• Unsure
  I am returning this item. I bought it for my husband and he could not get it to work. It would work for 10 minutes, then nothing. Sometimes he could unplug it and plug is back in and it would work. We are not sure what the problem is but think there might be something wrong with the base. However, in all fairness, I will not rate either negatively or positively (had to check a star to get this review accepted). We may have just gotten a "bad" set. We are not sure we are going to reorder this same one. But, will update this review if we do.

• Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Headphones
  This is my first experience with a wireless headphone. I did not get an infrared unit, since that would always require line-of-sight contact with the base unit. I bought this one based on price from the sales company, which was substantially lower than that offered by other sources. Overall, I am satisfied with this product, except for one thing. The unit, together with the headphones stands a bit over 9" tall, which means it will not fit into the shelves that contain my home entertainment center. The sound quality is ok for me, but does not have the sense of sound separation that my HTS, with its speaker separation it has.
  
  Recharging of the headphone's internal, replaceable AA batteries is done through two metal contacts on the headphones when they are in contact with the base unit supports. This works well, but it does mean that the user cannot simply replace the headphones on the base unit and be sure that the batteries would recharge; attention is needed to make sure good electrical contact is made.
  
  I was influenced to purchase this unit based on the user comments I read from other people, some of whom commented about other brand name headphones.
  
  I had a bit of a concern about how to connect this headphone system to my HTS, since neither the HTS or the headphone instructions were very clear about this. After contacting the HTS mfr. I used some of the unused terminals on the back of the HTS receiver and found the headphones worked well. The only remaining step was to press the "mute" button on the HTS's remote control.
  
  I deducted one star from this review because none of the information I read about these headphones gave any measurements, which as I said before, is taller than I would have liked, and I have not yet settled on where I will finally put the base unit....more info

• Sennheiser RS 130, My Opinion
  I have been using the Sennheiser RS130 for approximately one month. It was purchased to alleviate a bit of domestic discord over the volume at which I listened to our Plasma TV. In order to get most of what was said I had to increase the volume to where it was intolerable for my spouse. I was grasping at straws when I ordered these headphones because I was certain that they would give substandard sound due to the wireless transmission of audio which can be interfered with in a number of ways. I was wrong. These headphones not only allow me to hear at whatever volume I choose, they actually increase my ability to hear the TV to a point better than I could have heard at any volume with just the TV alone.I now frequently use the head phones in order to better hear a program's content even when volume is not and issue. The headphones are comfortable and controls are easily accessible while wearing them. I am entirely satisfied with them and am very impressed with their quality. ...more info
