Customer Reviews: - Dumb idea
Will bite the bullet for a viable bluetooth device when appropriate. Wish they would make the dang boom long enough to reach within .5" of my mouth. My physical dimensions make this not that good of an option. I have to constantly raise my voice to be heard. Why couldn't they have given it just a little bit longer of a boom?
Bad investment - for another 30 - 50 $$ could have gotten a decent bluetooth device. $45 for this was a waste....more info - OK, a little awkward
As you can see by the picture, this device has merely an ear canal insert and the microphone and cord just dangle. It feels a little awkward to me, although if you're not moving it does stay in as long as you've "pulled your ear back" while inserting it, which creates a clamp effect between your ear canal and the rubber insert. The earset itself is light enough to work this way. The problem is the cable, which drags, gets bumped by clothing, etc, and jiggles things. You have to clip the cable to your collar for sure, it's not optional like with over-the-ear headsets. It comes with a little Y-shaped adapter which lets you use it with SKYPE or other PC-based systems. Interestingly, while this works fine, the earset has a little whistle-y electronic noise with Etymotic that I don't hear (no matter how close I listen) with some other earsets I have. It's not noticeable once a conversation starts. Overall, for most use, I don't find it's much better than a couple $7 dollar over-the-ear earsets Radio Shack used to stock (no longer do). It may be, as someone reported, it's way better for wind noise, I haven't tried that. It comes with a couple fluffy black sponge wind masks for the mike bulb. ...more info - good to excellent
I like the portability of the headset. The cord with the clip seems to be positioned in not quite the right place, it pulls down on the headset a little. Its not that big of a deal. I prefer the wired headset over bluetooth as the bluetooth quality of sound deteriorates too quickly. So far this headset is very reliable. The carry case allows me to fold it up and keep it in my purse....more info - Works great
This product works great. I work as an IT person at a casino, and with this headset I can be heard easily both in the server room, and out on the gaming floor. I had no problem hearing anyone else, either. I tried several different bluetooth headsets, and none of them did the job very well. There might be bluetooth headsets that would do the job, but they will be a lot more expensive than this, and a drain on your battery life. ...more info - Save your money
A friend recommended the etymotic research ER22C headset to me. I thought my Motorola bluetooth headset could be improved upon so I bought this in the hopes that the noise canceling qualities would be better. WRONG. People have a lot of trouble hearing me unless I hold the mike right by my mouth. The sound is tinny. The headset is incredibly uncomfortable and will not stay in the proper position for the mike unless it is held in place. Absolutely the worst headset I have every used. That's $35 I'd like to have back!...more info - good brand, marginal product
I have enjjoyed other etymotics products, but this one was rather cheap upon opening. In addition, most new cell phones come with blue tooth devices, and no plug for the etymotics device. Think hard about buying this, the I-pod phones are excellent...more info - Won't stay put
I went through a large batch of wired headsets (actually for Xbox 360 use rather than with a cell phone), and while they all failed in various ways, this one was perhaps the most disappointing. The sound quality seemed quite good in both directions, and during my brief usage period it seemed fairly solidly built.
The major problem was that it was impossible to get the headset to stay positioned correctly. It is held in place solely by the fit of the canalphone inside your ear, and with the boom mic's weight it will constantly twist downward even if you're not on the move. This can be avoided to an extent by getting a very tight seal in your ear canal, but even then I was only able to get 5-10 minutes of usage before realizing that the person on the other end could no longer hear me as the mic had dipped below my chin. I'm not sure how anyone could use it and not experience this behavior.
Other similar products by other manufacturers all have some type of support mechanism, such as an ear clip, which would solve the problem here. However, the shape of the ear piece made it seem impossible to jerry rig something myself, and so it went back to Amazon....more info
