Product Description

SoundPoint Pro SE-225 seamlessly integrates handset and headset telephone functionality with crystal clear, hands-free voice conferencing in an elegant personal business phone. With the touch of a button, SoundPoint Pro SE-225 lets you hold clear, multipoint conference calls with up to two additional participants. Polycom's Acoustic Clarity Technology enables callers to speak when they want without clipped sentences and one-way conversations that are common with ordinary business speakerphones. The SoundPoint Pro SE-225 has versatile features like a front and rear-facing microphone for 360? voice conferencing coverage, and dialing is quick with the 99-number speed-dial capability. You can also connect an optional headset for quality, hands-free applications.

Putting an end to speakerphones that clip sound, the Polycom SoundPoint Pro SE-225 features full-duplex performance, so that everyone can both talk and listen simultaneously. This corporate-quality phone system offers two lines, caller ID (including call-waiting caller ID), and a 32-character LCD display. Use the handset, attach a headset, or press the rear microphone key to use the speakerphone with 360-degree sound coverage for groups.

Customers looking for larger-scale conferencing systems will need to look elsewhere, but the SoundPoint Pro SE-225 competes well in its price point. Thanks to well-chosen features, such as Polycom voice technology for crisp reception, 99-number call-history directory, 20-number speed dial, and any-key dialing, this model works well for typical conference rooms. The Polycom SoundPoint Pro SE-225 comes with a one-year warranty.

Features:
  • Full-duplex conference phone with 2-line operation
  • Caller ID with call waiting
  • 99-number programmable speed dialing
  • Keypad-activated rear mic for maximum room coverage
  • Integrated headset amplifier, hanger, and controls

Customer Reviews:

  • 4 failures and counting
I am now on my 4th Polycom Soundpoint Pro phone since April 2008. If it wasn't for the 1 year warranty, I would have trashed this system a long time ago. It must be geared for the home user and not for business applications as I am on the telephone 75% of each day with customers and vendors. I have been very disappointed in the telephones sound quality, performance and features. When you attempt to connect two callers via the conferencing feature, the parties cannot hear each other. There is no backlight for the display which makes it difficult to see and I would expect with the price paid for this phone, Polycom could come up with some sort of LED. When you attempt to use the speaker phone, it is reported as being very poor sound quality and I am frequently asked to pick up the headset. It also has a limited range for increasing the volume for the call. The ultimate failures have occurred when the phone will not disconnect the calls. It leaves the lines open. Tried to trouble shoot but keep getting the same response from customer service that they have not experienced this problem before. I have read on the internet in several places that this same problem has occurred with other users of this particular phone model. The telephone power supply is plugged in to a surge protector that inturn is plugged into a back up power system; so power surges can't be the problem....more info
  • Don't buy this phone
Had this phone for 3 years. Intermittently, I could hear a dialtone, but the phone's dialing wouldn't register on the line.

Speakerphone quality was okay. The built-in headphone amp is sub-par and cannot adequately raise the volume of sound for the user.

The 3-way calling (2 lines, conferenced together) has never worked. I can hear each party, but they cannot hear each other.

Finally, after 3 years, the phone failed. It can't dial out. I've tried changing out the phone cable, resetting the software default settings, and such. Nothing works. I have a $250 paperweight (I bought mine at a higher price than at Amazon). Software rev is 0.2b if that makes any difference.

My company even has a service contract with Polycom and they refuse to help me with this phone.

Don't buy it. Save $100 and buy some other 2-line phone. I had such high hopes for this phone....more info
  • This phone is THE office phone
I've been shopping for a good home-office phone for a couple of months and was about to give up. I've purchased at least 3 phones including the ATT 4-line; AT&T 2-Line; and one other brand - none of them gave me the features and quality I was looking for. So when I found the Polycom, I was very anxious to receive it until I started reading the reviews.

I'm not sure if I have a newer version of the SE-225, but it's terrific. I say that after opening the box with an extremely pessimistic pre-disposition, ready to pack it up and return another phone based on the negative comments. In two days of very active use, I have NOT been disappointed.

    Some specifics:

Speed-dial: Too easy to use, 2-touch dialing for your top 10, with room for 99 (total) searchable by letter (like your cellphone)

Handfree: The volume is excellent, and the callers I've polled said it sounds great (I haven't been on the otherside of a call yet)

Footprint: It's not overly large, and the Console Cable that's included means only 1 cord snaked across the desk!

Quality: In no way do I feel like this phone is not worth the price. It's exactly what I expected from Polycom.

    Cool features:

Primary Line: Allows you to designate which of the 2 lines is the main one you use, so it selects that line when you pick up the receiver, headset, etc.

Distintive Rings: Pick a ring and a volume for each line.

And just so it doesn't seem like I work for Polycom, the one thing I don't like is that you can't program Pauses into the speed-dial. It doesn't have a call-waiting light, but that's a small sacrifice considering what you get.

All in all, being the picky techno-geek I am, I am not seeing any of the negative points mentioned in some reviews. But given the dates that they were submitted, this may be an improved version of this phone. No matter, I highly recommend it!

  • Good Analog Phone - Could use some updating
    Pros:
The Soundpoint Pro SE-225 is a solid analog phone. It has a pleasing shape and works as advertised. I have experienced no humming or quality issues that some of the reviewers have had.

    Cons:
The speaker volume control is somewhat loud even when it is turned down all the way. It would be nice to turn down the volume to zero or mute. This product is due for a technical upgrade. It has been around for years, without any significant visible updates. A audio output would be nice to have so that I could better record some of the technical webinars I attend. The LED screen design could be significantly upgraded with color, size and resolution.

    Why I didn't I just purchase a IP phone?
I work in a virtual environment, and our digital team is spread across the nation. On our daily project call, the two guys that have the worst voice quality in terms of sound level and breakups, both use IP phones. IP phones also seem to degrade webinar bandwidth as opposed to analog (even though my analog phone is on a digital line).

So, I did my research, and this seems to be one of the best analog small office phones available. The $59-$99 RCA or ATT phones just didn't have adequate sound.

  • Not good for the long haul
When I bought this phone about two years ago I was excited, expecting for the price that it would be a great speakerphone and have other good features.

All during my phone usage people I talk to through the speakerphone say it's echo-ey. My my office may be a bad place for a speakerphone. Along with some other reviewers, I have found the volume too low.

    In the past year:
The ringer on line one has stopped working,
The hand set has stopped working,
The headset has begun to squeak in a piecing tone.

Overall, I'm in the market for a new phone, and this one is not on my list! Especially for the price--no way....more info

  • Worth the wait
It took forever to get, but it works as advertised. Speaker quality is great, handset is perhaps one notch below great. I would echo someone else's comment about not being able to turn down the touch tone volume. That is one thing I would change about the phone.

One cord (integrated phone and power) makes it unobtrusive and easy to move around....more info

  • Superb Voice Quality Full Duplex Conferencing
Almost every conference room in the world uses a Polycom speakerphone. As I work from home I wanted something as good as the one I have in my office. Thanks to Polycom Soundpoint Pro SE-225, I can enjoy same audio quality right at home. This phone is best when used as a speaker phone however you have option to use its handset or attach a headset to its 2.5mm jack. A dedicated button makes it easy to switch between speaker/handset and headset. During conference calls, I hear everyone loud and clear. Most importantly people on the other end feel the same way. With SE-225 I talk naturally and effortlessly - making every call a more productive call. If you have a home office, do yourself a favor buy one; you won't be disappointed. It is a bit expensive but worth every penny. ...more info
  • Needs more volume
I bought this new from the Internet. It appears to be of solid construction, but has a poor sound amplifier. If you intend to use it in any kind of a moderate ambient noise environment, it's a bad buy....more info
  • Good but minor problems...
As a speakerphone, I like the phone. No problems.

Three minor issues -- (1) There is a dataport connector on the back of the phone. This would be good if you wanted to daisy chain your fax machine or modem off the phone, you would expect most people to do this with "line 2", but the data port is "line 1". (2) There is a volume control, but even if you change the speakerphone volume to really low, the touch tones ARE STILL LOUD AS NORMAL (waking up the family). (3) The handset seems too cheap to me and as a very hollow sound.

Otherwise, like the phone. Speakphone is good quality, I purchased the unit becuase I am sitting on conferences calls listening to people pontificate....more info
