Product Description
Probably the heaviest album ever to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart, Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power proved that, even in an era of alternative rock supremacy, heavy metal fans were still a force to contend with. Blending eerie, surging grooves influenced by Black Sabbath with thrashy speed metal riffs, Pantera created a bleak, oppressive disc that captured both ends of the speed spectrum without resorting to clich¨¦, abrupt tempo shifts. Guitarist Diamond Darrell plays with as much crunch as the best Metallica, while vocalist Phil Anselmo screams loud enough to satisfy any GBH fan. Coupled with Vinnie Paul's insistent, double bass-drum onslaught, you're left with a record that's a dentist's wet dream--an album that'll shake the fillings out of even the strongest teeth. --Jon Wiederhorn

Customer Reviews: - Turn it up as loud as you can stand it
With raw, angry guitar and powerful riffs, Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power attacks from the very first note. Phil Anselmo's unholy singing growl was the perfect voice for these heavy, dark songs. One of the best metal CDs around with one of the best titles as well. Dimebag Darrell's solos snarl at you and by the time you finish listening you're exhausted. If you're having a lousy day or have any aggression you need to get out of your system, this is the CD for you....more info - Simply awesome
What else can be said about this album that hasn't been said before? Simply one of the best metal albums of all time PERIOD...more info - I gave this 5 stars cause I love to rock
Pantera has always been at the top of my list of hard-rockin' bands that I play at their loudest. I love to drive my Impala by the high schools with this CD turned way up. Man, I just blow the minds of everyone that sees me. They're all like, "What's up with that?" "Why so loud?" And I'm all like, if you got it you need to rock it. Those fools won't ever understand what it means to need to rock. Hey, I'm not judging them or nothing, I just think it's an ignorance thing on their part. Like, they haven't been exposed to enough good music to be able to figure out that the cripe the play on the radio is for losers and hip-hop is just awful. So, to all those reading this who like to rock I give it my highest rating!...more info - True Classic
anybody who knows anything about metal, or even music in general knows pantera's impact on every corner of the metal scene. it's possible that this album is just TOO metal for anyone giving it a bad review, but for everyone else this is the DEFINITION of metal. so you people who want to hate on pantera and this album right now can wait for VH1 to run a special that says how amazing this album is and the impact it has had and then maybe you'll give it a second listen and realize what you've been missing out on all along....more info - great album.
one of the most influential heavy metal albums of the 1990s, Vulgar Display of Power is just what is says: a raw, pulverizing, insanely intense depiction of naked rage and hostility that drains its listeners and pounds them into submission. even the "ballads," "This Love" and "Hollow," have thunderingly loud, aggressive chorus sections. preaching power through strength and integrity, Phil Anselmo discards any further attempts at singing in favor of a militaristic bark and an unhinged roar, while the crystal-clear production sets Diamond Darrell's pummeling riffs against a rhythmic backdrop so thunderously supportive that Darrell often solos without underlying rhythm guitar parts. the album again follows Cowboys From Hell's strategy of stacking the best songs at the beginning and letting their momentum carry the listener through the rest, but the riffs and sonic textures are more consistently interesting this time around. Pantera's thick-sounding, post-hardcore power metal and outraged, testosterone-drenched intensity would help pave the way for alternative metal acts like Korn and Tool; Vulgar Display of Power is the best distillation of those virtues....more info - pantera haters please.......GROW UP
I have just barley got done listening to this album and Im very impressed. If you love Pantera buy this album.Oh by the way for all you on this page who say things agianst Pantera. Nobody wants to hear what you have to say. If you don't like pantera then don't listen to them. I didn't like pantera long a go but when I didn't I never went on about them like you people do. I have respect for good musicians. NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO LISTEN TO THEM SO CAN IT. eVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE dIMEBAG THEN LEAVE HIM ALONE, THE MAN IS DEAD CAN'T YOU SHOW A LITTLE RESPECT! I'm sure if you would of met him before he died you would of relized not trash a respectable musician. You know what kind of people argue about this stuff like you do? Children and ignorant people....more info - Done already
I liked this so much better when it was called "Master of Puppets." That was a better, more original album anyways. This one sounds like a grade school rehash....more info - It's a shame Terry, the singer, was shot
we built this city, me and pa. It took like 2 hours and we had pieces left over. that was probably the worst set I've put together in a long time. That guy is the champion. Oh comma by the way comma Tampora is bad. Mow the Lawn. Mogollon....more info - Best CD Ever
Pantera is go They were the best metal band to ever exist. Dimebag was the best guitar player ever. To the a**holes who think Dimebag sucks Go to hell you know nothing about him. Anyways vulgar display of power was a great CD. The Best Songs Were This Love, Walk, Hollow, and mouth for war were the best, So if you are a true metalhead you will love this album.Again to all the Green Day Haters F**k You!!! And also Green Day Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...more info - Sellouts
I like Pantera. I liked their Cowboys from Hell album. However, they sold out with this album. The tried to go commercial to reach a greater audience. I uderstand why but I think it wasn't a good idea. Listen to "Walk" That song is so basic that anyone in the world could do it. If you want Pantera BEFORE they sold out, either get Cowboys from Hell our their albums before that (yes they have PRE Cowboys from Hell albums, even though Pantera tries to deny it)...more info - Answering a to a whimp.
Pantera is an okay band and this a decent album. It is not the best but it has good ones like, Mouth for war, walk, this love, and By domons be driven and the semi ballad Hollow. But the rest I do not care for. Yes I am sad that dimebag is dead, but he is not the best guitarist that ever lived. Eddie van Halen, Kirk Hammett, and Dave mustaine are beter guitarusts. But somewhere on this page, there is some whimp who thinks that Limp Bizcrap, Korn, Linkin park, Good Charlotte is metal. Those are the real whimps and the person who wrote that review is a whimp. all of those bands are posers. Not Pantera. Well Pantera is acually heavy like Metallica, Megadeth, and Black sabbath, unlike those poser punk bands.
P.S. I'm not under 13. Just do not want to waste time making a password....more info - Best of the Best
This is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. I saw Pantera 9 times in concert and missed my 10th because of the flu. If I would have know Dimebag would be killed a few years later, I would have went to more!...more info - The Ultimate in POWER Metal
I admit it, I had completely stopped listening to Pantera until the "Behind the Music" episode aired recently, but it was that TV show that inspired me to dig out my old tattered copy of VDOP. And you know what? I still LOVE this album, even as a responsible husband and father with the whitest of white-collar jobs! I had forgotten what a HUGE sound Dimebag got out of that little flying-v guitar, how Rex and Vinnie could shake my insides with their thunderous, tight grooves and most of all, how much Phil could get into my head with that straight-outta-Hell roar of his!! This is a timeless classic, and newer bands like Disturbed, Godsmack and System of a Down owe a debt of gratitude to Pantera for bringing the POWER metal to the forefront. One of the top two or three metal albums of all-time. If you are a true metalhead, you MUST pick up this CD! AWESOME!!...more info - 3.9 stars for a definitive album.
Sure in 1992 metal was not "big" as so to speak.I am a Pantera fan but not one of those who cant spell.Pantera definatly rules! And this is there 2nd best work with there 3 best songs.
1. Mouth For War:Great opener with heavy the money riffs! And great chorus!A anti war song with a great solo near the end and ends flat out great! One of those songs that just does not get boring.11/10
2. A New Level:Straight out Power/Thrash Metal with some groove touches and hugely memorable chorus.Another great one with some amazing solos and awsome growls!10/10
3. Walk:This is a huge hit and is still played quite often! With a toned beginning and a famous riff the drums start to pat and the BOOM!Incomes very heavy and awsome riffing with great vocals of "CANT YOU SEE I'M EASILY THE POST PAST ONE OF THE SYSTEM!" and a great chorus lead to a great solo and ends with "Are you talking to me?ARE YOU TALKING TO ME!Walk on home boy!" great thrash masterpiec song.11/10
4. F**king Hostile:The 4th great song in a row!Wow!Great song starting with "ONE!!!!!!!!!!TWO!!!!!!!!!!THREE!!!!!!!!!!!FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!" and then comes in that tasty riff and leads to a solo which lasts 30 seconds(Long for a pantera song) and then ends this great song.10/10
5. This Love:The Last great song and the best!Starts with a metallica riff and slow bluesy vocals which are very scary like "I said I loved you but I lied" very emotional song and very nice and pretty for 2:03 when we hear a sqealing sound and this nice pretty not heavy song goes "YOU KEEP THIS LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!" and then that ruins the prettiness with a large chorus continued into a fast heavy riff and then more melodic parts and less squeals but more scary vocals with him kind of whispering, kind of talking voice a interlude to the next chorus with the sound of "I would kill myself for you.....I would kill you for myself.....YOU KEEP THIS LOW!!SLASH LOVE!ANY CHILD,TOY!YOU TAKE THIS LOVE LOVE LOVE!YOU TAKE THIS LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU TAKE THIS LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAAAAVE!" and then we hear "PUNK!" and then a slow and heavy riff comes in aroung th 3:05 mark and does that untill the last verse and then the squealing sound that lasts for 10 seconds up to 3:15 and then another Chorus but extended with more "LOVE!" "YOU TAKE THIS LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAOW!"
And then by 3:35 incomes the same riff that was slow before but fast now and leads into a 7 second solo that is occupied by one more that is 13 seconds which has a 20 second long solo up to the 3:45 mark when another verse only different and I dont consider it a verse and lasts longer then the other verses up to 4:10 when the squealing noise comes in for the last and longest time which flies till 4:45 when the last chorus comes and last 2:00 and then the same riff as before only the slowest yet and ends that way by 8:10.Best song on this album!12/10
6. Rise:Though the first 5 songs were all great! The only reason this album is not as good as 2000's "Reinventing the steel" is because of the 5 songs that follow. This being one of them which may be my favorite type of raw and thrashy sounding music sounds way too much like "Walk","F***ing Hostile and "Mouth For War" still this song is good.7/10
7. No Good (Attack The Radical):This song is pretty much the same as the last one only slightly calmer.6/10
8. Live In A Hole:Ok song.Still very much a song that is light and pretty but leads to be very heavy!8/10
9. Regular People (Conceit):Great song but is lowered because this album is 3.9 stars and is in no way a 5 star still has 6 awsome songs but this is not one of them!1/10
10. By Demons Be Driven:I thought this would be good...But it is the lowliest and weakest song here.-1/10
11. Hollow:Ok by this time I almost slammed my radio but then when I heard the intro and the rest of the song I was proud and loved it quickly!Great album closer.10/10.83 points and 3.9 stars great and definitive album but the 6th-10th songs are not good but the other 6 ROCK!Get it!
...more info - All you need is PanterA's greatest hits compilation
This is very good for a PanterA album, one of the better of the six released with Phil Anselmo (including "Power Metal"). The reason I give this album only 3 stars is because I feel that the album is already practically completely represented in "Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits", PanterA's greatest hits album. Everything you need to own from this album is on there. All the "PanterA essentials" as one may call them. "Mouth for War", my personal favorite song from this album is already on "FBtGSCVH" as well as the signature hit single "Walk", and the thrashy semi-ballad "This Love". The only song on there not available is "F*cking Hostile" whihc I suggest you purchase and download right away as you ARE misssing outnot having that song.
If you're trying to have every PanterA album in a collection, then this album is for you. If you like loud as hell, balls to the wall, pure thrash metal in it's rawest, loudest, most extreme form, then buy this album, however I simply believe this is already summed up in "Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits".
Overall: This is a kick-@$$ PanterA album andI'm nott saying it isn't, I'm simply typing what a CD review SHOULD be: "a fan's response to an album that includes heavy comparisons and contrasts with other albums of the same band's discography".
Thanks for reading and I encourage you to get out there immediately and purchase both "F*cking Hostile" as an mp3 and then out it on a blank CD as well as buy "Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' VUlgar Hits" if you don;'t already have both of them. Also, the latter is great for any PanterA collector, Beginning Pantera fan, or DIehard PanterA fan as it includes a DVD that features a bunch of PanterA music videos and some live footage, as well as a brief biography of the band's career, AND, some of the baddest, most awesome, excellent, Kick-@$$ songs PanterA has ever written! Purchase both today!
Screw "Vulgar Display of Power", byuy them instead!...more info - Metal with power
