Customer Reviews:

  • No dream is a small dream - encouraging thoughts towards fulfilling dreams
We've all been through it - many phases where we have had different dreams in our lives and even if had accomplished a small percentage of it, it would have been a fulfilling experience for us, our families and the soceity we live in. But, they are hardly succeeded, just disappearing as mere thoughts.

Maxwell does a good job of going into the details of surgically analyzing our dreams through a series of questions to select the feasible/practical ones and make them happen.

As Maxwell says - no dream is a small dream, to quote the auther, your dream could be as simple as being a good father - even this will require a significant amount of effort on you to realizing this !

Overall a good read with techniquest that can be pratically applied....more info
  • May make you want to quit your job!
This was my first John Maxwell book and I read it because it was offered free on Kindle. I loved John's examples and found his approach accessible. He certainly made me think and I found myself highlighting and taking notes on nearly every page (great to do with Kindle). That's how much great material is in this book. So why only 4 stars? Well, the one factor John doesn't really address is what does the middle-aged person with a family and a mortgage do if he realizes that his dream lies somewhere other than where he currently is working? Not so easy to quit your job and follow your dream in today's job market. This book certainly has me thinking about possibilities; I only wish I had found it 10-15 years earlier....more info
  • Is your dream YOUR dream?
Are you living your life to fulfill YOUR dream or are you trying to fulfill someone else's dream?

John C. Maxwell raises questions like this throughout this book. I'm not going to list all the questions that he wants you to ask yourself - you can read the table of contents or someone else's review for that. However, the two questions that struck me most were: The Reality Question and The Passion Question.

Is the dream that I am trying to achieve really MY dream and is there a real chance that it can be achieved? I even slightly disagreed with Maxwell on the latter part as I believe that just about any dream can be achieved with enough hard work and know-how. But one doesn't want to spend years banging one's head against a brick wall when it just might be easier to find a door in the wall or a ladder to climb the wall. There ARE other ways to achieve a dream than straight on.

But the passion question stumped me. I'd been having trouble supporting a project under my umbrella and it suddenly dawned on me: I wasn't passionate about it because it was someone else's dream, not mine! I may yet be able to find a way to tie it into my dream, but for right now, it's best if I just do what I really care about and let others pursue their own passion.

Maxwell writes in a clear, concise manner. If you're an underliner, you'll find plenty of nuggets to underline. He includes many quotes from others to support his arguments (maybe too many), but his manner is upbeat and personable.

If you're floundering or feel you have lost direction, this may just be the book to inspire you and fire you up again.

    FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!...more info
  • Put Your Dream To The Test
I am a huge fan of John Maxwell's however, what disappointed me about the book was the excessive reliance on quotes and excerpts from other authors and leaders. Maxwell has been a leader long enough to accumulate enough thought provoking material so he shouldn't have to oversaturate his book with these types of fillers. I appreciate the concept, but I expect more from a seasoned leader such as Maxwell....more info
  • Get ready to be motivated!
This book is awesome! John Maxwell spoke at our church(Crystal Cathedral) two Sundays in a row about this book, so of course I had to buy it. If you are asking "hmmm, what am I going to do with my life?" or "how do I get started?" this is THE book for you! After reading this book you will see your dreams with more clarity and you will be ready to get started!! Don't just dream your dream, but be it, live it, seize it!! :) ...more info
  • Put Your Dream to the Test
Confession: If John Maxwell writes it, I read it. Through his books, Injoy Life Club, Maximum Impact, and special series, John Maxwell has served as a long-distance mentor who has been a huge contributor to my personal, professional, and ministry development. All of his books are great...but I have a new favorite...

Put Your Dream to the Test is a blueprint for dreamers. This book is a practical guide meant to assist in moving your dreams beyond the stage of conception to reality. The book asks the reader to put their dream through the grid of ten rigorous questions to see how well thought out a dream is so that can actually be accomplished.

Put Your Dream to the Test is filled with great stories and practical steps, both mainstays of Maxwell's works. I found this book to be "uncomfortably refreshing."

Uncomfortable, because it reminds me that I must make my dreams happen by actually DOING something--too many of us miss the point of dreaming by waiting for our dreams to fall in our laps; our dreams will only become real when we take enough ownership of them to MAKE them happen!

Put Your Dream to the Test is also refreshing because each "test question" provides solid practical insights--not just into your dream, but into yourself! The "success stories" of dreamers woven into the chapters really hold your attention and reinforce the questions (my personal favorites were Michael Hyatt from Nelson Books and Kevin Myers from 12Stone Church).

Because of the impact that John Maxwell has had on me personally, I tell leaders to read everything he publishes, but if I could only read three of his books, Put Your Dream to the Test would be ranked right next to The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and Leadership Gold....more info
  • Not Just For Dreamers
"It's one thing to have a dream. It's another to do the things needed to achieve it" - that's the premise behind John Maxwell's latest book "Put Your Dream to the Test: 10 Questions That Will Help You See It and Seize It" (which I just read as part of Thomas Nelson's blogger review program) Maxwell doesn't try to tell you the right answers, but instead delivers ten great questions that really should be considered by anyone with a dream. The book is full of stories and inspiration that affirm the message - the passion of Bob Taylor for guitars, the tenacity of Elizabeth Keckly rising up from slave to friend of the White House, and the fulfillment of Wilbur Wilberforce's amazing dream.

The ten questions involve: ownership, clarity, reality, passion, pathway, people, cost, tenacity, fulfillment, and significance. In each case Maxwell covers vital issues a leader needs to work through if the dream is going to become realized. For example, in discussing the fulfillment question, he asks "Does Working toward My Dream Bring Satisfaction?" Maxwell references Seth Godin's book, 'The Dip', that chasm between embarking on a dream and the first sign of significant results. Realizing how tough the obstacles, learning curve, and hard work will be, it's critical to have a strong sense of fulfillment or satisfaction along the way. Each chapter ends with the challenge: "Can you answer 'Yes' to this question?" Fortunately, he also walks through several important follow-up questions if that answer is currently a 'No'.

I didn't know what to expect in this book, as I'm not an entrepreneur or CEO, or someone with a single 'lightning-bolt from the sky' dream. And yet the more I read, the more I saw how the questions discussed are relevant for any leader. And on that subject, John has a lot of great things to say. The chapters on clarity and vision, passion, people, and significance were particularly good. Maxwell concludes it's not good enough to do well in just one or two of these areas. Being able to answer 'Yes' to as many questions as possible will improve the chance of success greatly.

For anyone with a big dream, and wondering if or how it can be done, this is an excellent book. It will change the way you look at your dreams, in a good way....more info
  • Do you have a real dream or a fantasy?
I really love this book because it sets the record straight on the real "secret" to achieving your dream. It is not in the attracting, it is in the passion and hard work. When you finish reading this book you will know whether your dream is something that you can achieve or whether it is an unrealistic fantasy. Here are the ten questions that the book takes you through in great detail to test your dream against reality.

    1. Is my dream really my dream? You can only accomplish the dream that is in your heart, not your parent's or spouse's dream.

    2. Do I clearly see my dream? It must be specific, exactly how it will look after it is achieved, in reality.

    3. Am I depending on factors within my control to achieve my dream? If others must do things for your dream to happen, or if external events must happen for your dream that are out of your control, then you have entered fantasy land.

    4. Does my dream compel me to follow it? If you can not quit your dream even when you try, then you are on the right path. You must have the desire to pull you through the rough times.

    5. Do I have a strategy to reach my dream? You must have a step by step plan to reach your dream.

    6. Have I included the people I need to realize my dream? You must have the right team to complete your dream. (Your significant other or spouse must be on the same page for success.)

    7. Am I willing to pay the price for my dream? Will you sacrifice, work, sweat, practice, and focus on what ever is needed to achieve your dream? Will you spend as long as it takes to be successful?

    8. Am I moving closer to my dream? It is crucial to move toward your dream each and every day through your actions, connections, working, thinking, or learning, even if it is in a tiny way.

    9. Does working toward my dream bring satisfaction? It is crucial that you get personal satisfaction on your path to your dream, or you will not finish the journey.

    10. Does my dream benefit others? You achieve greatness and success when you solve others problems. Through helping others you empower your own dream.

This book will test your dream to see if it can be achieved, and if it is proven real, you will then learn how to see it and seize it. This book has really confirmed my dream and given me the tools to keep going....more info
  • Good resource to make sure you're dreaming the right dream
Many people have dreams, but most are never achieved. Maxwell tries to help people make progress towards their dreams by having them assess and evaluate their dreams such as is the dream really theirs (or is it someone else's dream for them), is the dream clearly defined, is it even possible, and what price are they willing to pay to have the dream come true? I think the questions are important in the dream achievement process and can help people better define, clarify and reach their dreams....more info
  • I was hoping for some project management tips and a little cheerleading - I got a dose of reality
I was looking for a book that would help me lay out a course toward achieving a fairly reasonable dream. What I got was a book that had me look very realistically at that dream and see how likely it was that I would achieve it. I turned out alright, but I have to admit I have a few questions that I could not answer as strongly as I should.

The book is not intentionally unsupportive, but it does lay out a few facts and questions that can point toward potential difficulties in reaching your dream. The good news is that if you "fail" the test questions, it does show you where you need to be to achieve your dream. But it also does explain the possibility that your dream may not be achievable or may be misguided. For me, my dream is definitely not achievable without a little more sacrifice and motivation but ultimately well within my abilities, control, and passions.

The book also spends time questioning if this dream is really what you want. It has a strong message throughout that pursuing your dreams and passions is a great way to happiness and satisfaction. To get there though you need to be picking the right dream. I tested myself on this and was surprised to find that what I saw as the end products do not seem to be my biggest aspiration, but rather the process to that end. I had never written down what my dream was in specific details before, but after doing that, the simple end goal is the smallest part of my dream.

There is some self help-type babble and quotes to help motivate, but the core message of the book is aligning yourself up with your real dreams and realistically evaluating where you are on the path to achieving it. I really feel closer to achieving my goal now that I have a much clearer vision of what I want. And I'm happy that my dream passed the test (with room for improvement!)

I don't typically care for "self help" type books, but this one was a winner.

  • Turn your dreams into reality!
Last night I finished John Maxwell's latest book, Put Your Dream to the Test. I really enjoyed this book. Maxwell is like Kevin Costner to me. I'm always hesitant to see his movies because I think I'm going to hate it or be bored by it, but I don't know if I've ever seen a Kevin Costner movie that I didn't like at least a little, and most of them I absolutely loved. Similarly, I always assume I'm going to be bored with a Maxwell book, but I love all of them once I get into them.

Put Your Dream to the Test is the best book I've ever read at helping you take a dream and turn it into reality. Maxwell guides the reader through 10 questions to help you assess your dream and decide whether or not it can become a reality. Is my dream really my dream? Do I have a strategy to reach my dream? Have I included the people I need to realize my dream? Am I willing to pay the price for my dream?, etc...

If you're a dreamer, or want to be, and you want to get serious about seeing your dreams realized, this is the book for you. Inspiring stuff! ...more info
  • Another great and inpiring work for John Maxwell that will help many achieve their potential
Put Your Dreams to the Test is another inspiring read from Dr. Maxwell. His premise is that everyone has a dream at one time or another. He gives the reader 10 questions to take your dream from wish to fruition. Dr. Maxwell defines a dream as "an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, will, and emotions, empowering you to do everything you can to achieve it." This definition alone is enough to draw the reader to explore this book further.

He believes that all dreams have the power to inspire and empower you. He helps the reader to clearly define the dream - creating a clear picture of an achievable future. He also helps the reader to identify if the dream meets with the passion of the dreamer as well as whether you have considered the cost to achieve it. The most helpful chapter to me was "The Pathway Question: Do I Have a Strategy to Reach My Dream?" One helpful quote was this: "The secret to your success is found in your daily agenda. If you do the right things day after day, then you will make progress, and you will eventually achieve what you set out to do." That's inspiring advice.

Another great piece of advice was implementing the "rule of five", doing five things every day that can move you closer to your dream. This helps to answer "The Tenacity Question." Most people fail to achieve their dreams because they fail to have the stick-to-it attitude necessary and put into practice small steps consistently to make it happen.

As usual, Dr. Maxwell writing is filled with plenty of inspiring stories and illustrations to make each point. Maxwell is an excellent story-teller and has an exhaustive illustration file drawing from Christian as well as non-Christian sources. This book is meant for anyone who has a dream, whether Christ-follower or not. It will have powerful potential for the kingdom of God if readers can develop a God-led dream to advance the kingdom. I wish that Dr. Maxwell were able to spend more time developing how dreams can have kingdom potential and not just a pathway for earthly success. There is tremendous inspiration and encouragement in Put Your Dreams to the Test for any and all Christ-followers. Get a copy for your library and put it into practice. You may find your dreams coming true.

  • Dream Test
Do you have a dream? Is your dream capable of being accomplished? If your dream can be accomplished, how? These questions and more are answered in John Maxwell's latest book, Put Your Dream to the Test. Maxwell walks the reader through these 10 questions, in a quest to achieve dream clarity, direction, and accomplishment:

1.) The Ownership Question: Is My Dream Really My Dream?
2.) The Clarity Question: Do I Clearly See My Dream?
3.) The Reality Question: Am I Depending On Factors Within My Control to Achieve My Dream?
4.) The Passion Question: Does My Dream Compel Me to Follow It?
5.) The Pathway Question: Do I Have a Strategy to Reach My Dream?
6.) The People Question: Have I Included the People I Need to Realize My Dream?
7.) The Cost Question: Am I Willing to Pay the Price for My Dream?
8.) The Tenacity Question: Am I Moving Closer to My Dream?
9.) The Fulfillment Question: Does Working Toward My Dream Bring Satisfaction?
10.) The Significance Question: Does My Dream Benefit Others?

Maxwell helps the reader answer these questions by sharing an applicable story of people who have taken this "dream test" and passed.
This is an excellent book. It will help the person who has dreams to properly define them, and then form a strategy to achieve those dreams. This book is very easy to read; through the use of story Maxwell fully engages the reader.
Don't leave your dream to chance. This book is a must-have that can make the difference between failure and success.

"It's one thing to have a dream. It's another to do the things needed to achieve it. If your willing to put your dream to the test - and do whats needed to answer yes to the ten dream questions - then your odds are very good for seeing your dream become reality."

  • A Guide To Dream Getting
Arnold Schwarzenegger, American Idol contestants, authors of the bestselling Chicken Soup For The Soul series---what do all these individuals have in common? In "Put Your Dream to the Test: 10 Questions that Will Help You See It and Seize It," John C. Maxwell illustrates the dream-getting power of numerous achievers like the ones above while exploring the 10 rules that will help an individual see whether his dream is just a fantasy or whether it has the potential to become reality. Overall, his book is inspirational and a fantastic career guide to mapping one's dream. Maxwell urges readers to be unafraid of standing out from the crowd and going after personal dreams instead of settling for the sensible and ordinary track to nothingness. The ten questions discussed in the book include the ownership question of whether a dream is really one's own, the clarity question of whether one can clearly see his dream, the reality question, the passion question, the pathway question about strategy-planning, the people question or the assistance of others, the cost question regarding the willingness to pay for dreams, the tenacity question about perseverance, the fulfillment question concerning the presence of personal satisfaction in striving towards the dream, and finally the significance question regarding whether others can benefit from another person's dream. Yet, what makes Maxwell's book powerful isn't just these rules, but his discussion of their importance, applicability, and implementation on the road to turning a dream into reality. Along the way, he introduces and analyzes the lives of people whose dreams are bigger than themselves. At the end of each chapter are interactive test questions regarding the applications of each principle discussed. This book is a very helpful guide to overcoming challenges on the way to fulfilling one's dream and highly recommended for anyone yearning to achieve a personal goal. ...more info
  • Thought-provoking book!
I have heard of John Maxwell but have never read any of his books until now. I am glad to have found him. His book, "Put Your Dream To The Test" made me think about my life and about life in general. What I got from this book is, in essence, we are put here on earth by God for a reason and that reason is to help others. The book scatters quotes from others well-known and less known. The quote from Mother Teresa is an ouch for most of us, "A day lived without doing something good for others is a day not worth living." Yes, ouch! Saints follow this principle, but it isn't found in the general public very often.

Maxwell gives us a plan on bringing your dream to reality through questions, tips, ideas and suggestions. His book gives me a light to see my path. I loved the quote from Albert Schweitzer, "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." So simple, but oh so true!

Maxwell states that habits are an important factor of having your dream succeed among others. Passion is another important factor. He gives a clear laid out plan to follow. Get a notebook, you will want to take notes! A good read! ...more info
  • A sad life is a dream unaccomplished. Help is on the way with this book
I met John Maxwell on March 28th, 2009 and he was speaking about this book, at a Success Magazine Symposium where I bought an advanced copy with a DVD/CD training course (my first time doing such a thing.) Dreams, within Maslow's hierarchy of needs, are at the top and tend to cause people to attain "self actualization." Dreams are BIG, important and rarely attained. They are the kinds of concepts that great men realize and so very few of us actually attain.

In this book Maxwell states that a dream is an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, will and emotions, empowering you to do everything you can to achieve it. He evaluates the process of setting a dream and will that dream be enough to propel you to success. Does your dream pass certain tests? In his opinion, the more questions below you can answer yes to the greater your probability of success

The questions, which comprise the ten chapters of this book. Here they are:
    1. The Ownership Question: Is my dream really my Dream?
    2. The Clarity Question: Do I clearly see my dream?
    3. The Reality Question: Am I depending on factors within
my control to achieve my dream?
    4. The Passion Question: Does my dream compel me to
    follow it?
    5. The Pathway Question: Do I have a strategy to reach my
    dream?
    6. The People Question: Have I included the people I need to
    realize my dream?
    7. The Cost Question: Am I willing to pay the price for my
    dream?
    8. The Tenacity Question: Am I moving closer to my dream?
    9. The Fulfillment Question: Does working toward my dream
    bring satisfaction?
    10. The Significance Question: Does my dream benefit others?

As Maxwell states "Leading your life requires making the right decisions and managing those decisions daily. Find the right dream for you then manage it daily."

Without going into more detail I would say that this course (book and CDs) really has helped me shape my goals and dreams. I've listened to the CD set 3 times and read the book once. I've been doing a deep immersion into this topic as I see it being critical to my long-term success in life.

  • Maxwell At His Best!
Review of John Maxwell's "Put Your Dream To The Test: 10 Questions To Help You See It and Seize It."

The core of this fantastic book is asking ten simple questions about dreams as they relate to goals. Collectively they comprise the "dream test" and will help the reader understand the principles of ownership, clarity, reality, passion, strategy, people, cost, tenacity, fulfillment, and significance of the dream(s) which they are following.

Each question is broken down into chapter form and is chocked with advice and wisdom that is understandable and applicable. In short Maxwell creates a step-by-step action plan for the reader to plot out and then follow the course toward dream-goal realization.

I read through this book in a night and cannot bestow enough superlatives on it. It is fresh and exciting and if you have experienced success and/or failure in attaining your goals it will validate you and your efforts. Well done!

  • Pivotal book for my life
There are a few books that I would say have "greatly impacted" my life. This is one of them! I have always enjoyed reading John Maxwell but this book stands out for me from all the others I have read by him.

Before reading this book I would have described myself as a visionary, a dreamer. However, as I walked though the chapters of Putting your Dream to the Test I realized that I have a long ways to grow inside of living the life of a dreamer.

The most impacting chapter for me was "Do I see my dream clearly?" It was inside this message that I realized how safely I have lived my life up until now. My subconscious thinking patterns have been focused on "keeping" that which I already have instead of stretching into the place of dreaming and obtaining my dreams.

This book has been pivotal for me because I now have clarity to the vagueness of what I would have called my dreams prior to reading it. And I have some clear direction for how to begin achieving those dreams.

All that to say, you should read this book. It just might change you life. It did mine!...more info

  • Challenging, yet Encouraging
Put Your Dream To The Test

    Author: John Maxwell

    Publisher: Thomas Nelson

This is one of Maxwell's most challenging books. But at the same time as challenging you with questions about your dreams, it's encouraging about your potential to have and achieve that dream.

In terms of challenge, Maxwell asks some very pointed questions early on in the book. Questions that make you realise that your dream, as you currently understand it, might not be your dream. It might be someone else's dream, it might be too vague to be achievable, or even, it might simply be fantasy...

Then the encouraging bit. He clearly and simply leads you through a process to make sure you have an achievable dream, something that you yourself own and are passionate about, something that you have it within your power to achieve.

This is a book that will help people of many ages and of many walks of life. I highly recommend it as an addition to your library....more info

Subtitled "10 Questions to Help You See It and Seize It," the book suggests you analyze your dream in order to move from merely believing in it to actually buying into it.

He gently guides you to answer questions of ownership, clarity, reality, passion, pathway, people, cost, tenacity, fulfillment and significance. In his trademark style, the book is peppered with motivational quotations and moving stories of people who achieved their dreams by practically testing them and then tenaciously pursuing them.

  • A Great Motivational, Thought-Provoking Book
There are two kinds of good books: some that are so good you just can't put down, and some that you read slowly and soak in every word.

"Put Your Dream to the Test" is the latter. In fact, I'm reading it so slowly that I haven't even finished it. If I waited until I did, this review may not be written for quite some time!

I have this tendency to always need something to look forward to, whether it be a simple project, a trip, a new book about finding your purpose, or a huge new assignment. That being said, though, I can honestly say that I am not much of a dreamer. I don't have a burning passion that drives me every day. So I wasn't sure this book was for me.

We were created for a specific purpose in this life and whether we know it or not, we all have a dream deep down inside that will help us fulfill that purpose. John Maxwell has compiled a list of ten questions in this book that you ask yourself, which will either help you identify your dream, or move forward on the path to achieving the one you already have. These questions cover everything from clarity, reality and passion to strategy, cost and fulfillment.

His questions are thought provoking and really make you examine yourself and your dream. He encourages you all along the way with stories from people who achieved their dreams, and tips to help you become one of them.

If you have a dream that you'd love to see become reality, then pick up this book. If you don't have a dream, read this book and you're likely to find one!

  • Amazingly Sane and Useful!
I've read so many self-help books I almost dreaded reading this one, but I was surprised. It's a sane approach to defining and then achieving one's goals, that even worked for me (turning sixty in a month).

The book itself is friendly. The cover is nice, the layout is excellent, chapters and sections are easily identifiable, and terrific quotes are scattered throughout. It's a pleasure, rather than a chore, to read.

The author doesn't tell us anything new and astonishing, but he lays it all out in a sane, useful (emphasis on "useful") way. He helps the reader get clear on his/her dreams, goals, and desires, and guides the way through what we think we want, what we think we should want, and other trip-ups in the road.

Having begun a new project last year, I now have a much clearer view of how to bring my desired outcome to reality, and I have the author to thank.

A Last Note: This is not a New Age book. It's a sane, sensible, you-have-to-work-for-it approach to dream making and goal setting. Personally, I appreciate that!...more info
  • Develop Your Dream
Good: Maxwell always has some good stories. He tells a good story of Michael Hyatt's vision that helped turn Nelson Books around. Also, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen completing five tasks per day to move them toward their dream of a best-selling book. Maxwell asks "what would you do if you had only five years to live?" as a way to work on fleshing out your dream.

Not so great: Maxwell often whets my appetite for a topic without developing it as much as I'd like. Specifically in this book, I hoped to see more focus at the beginning of the book on defining my dream.

Bottom line: Spend the 15 bucks to work on your dream. Living a fulfilled life is a worthy challenge and this book helps you live intentionally....more info
  • Good content presented poorly
If you like John C. Maxwell's style, then I would wholeheartedly recommend this book. If not, or if you are not familiar with the author's style, I'd suggest considering how effectively you could skim the material. The central theme is a great one - that dreams shouldn't be accepted unquestioningly - they should be tested.

The book suggests testing dreams in ten dimensions-
    1. Ownership - Is the dream yours?
    2. Clarity - Is the dream clear?
    3. Reality - Is the dream realistic?
    4. Passion - Are you passionate about it?
    5. Pathway - Can you build a strategy to reach the dream?
    6. People - Can you get the people needed to reach the dream?
    7. Cost - Are you willing to pay the cost to reach the dream?
    8. Tenacity - Can you work towards it almost every day?
    9. Fulfillment - Is working towards the dream personally fulfilling?
    10. Significance - Does the dream benefit others?

I found the author's style difficult in a few ways. First, he continually (virtually every page) intersperses quotes from countless other people. This makes the flow VERY choppy. This is further exacerbated by repeating some quotes in offset boxes. I appreciate others' experiences, particularly as they support the context, but the information is usually paraphrased anyway, and most quotes are nothing more than sound bites.

Another disappointment I had with the writing was the way "God" was spread all over, like ketchup on bland food. It was particularly disturbing in that it undercut the idea of a test and some of the dimensions directly. If your dream is a gift from God, who are you to question it?

Finally, the lack of precision in the writing disturbed me. It's not that I didn't understand the meaning; it was just annoying to have to repeatedly re-interpret the writing. As one example, in the chapter on the fulfillment question, the author continually refers to deriving satisfaction from "the gap" (between the present and the dream) or "living in the gap" when what the author presumably means is that one derives satisfaction from reducing the gap, seeing it get smaller day after day.

In summary, this book has some good food for thought, if one can get past the writing.

  • helped me reassess & refocus!
This book was exactly what I needed to help me reassess my dreams and goals, and then refocus my priorities so that I can be moving in the right direction. There isn't a lot of brand- new information here, but I like the way that the book is laid out (10 chapters, each with a specific focus, examples and questions to ask yourself). Also, the format is great for picking up and putting down, which you'll definitely do if you're giving the qustions time and attention.

Here's my favorite section of the book: using the acronym SECURE to help with the planning process.

    S: State all your positions
    E: Examine all your actions
    C: Consider all your options
    U: Utilize all your resources
    R: Remove all your nonessentials
    E: Embrace all your challenges

Overall, I found the questions to be thought-provoking and helpful. If you're feeling stuck, this book is a great tool to help propel you toward the right decisions....more info
