Very good for finding information about little known movies I watch on the Sundance Channel.Easy to read print. ...more info - Leonard Maltin's 2009 Movie Guide
THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR MOVIE BUFFS. GREAT FOR ANSWERING TRIVIA QUESTIONS AND CHECKING OUT WHAT, WHEN AND WHO....more info - Disappointing & Mistitled
I purchased this book so I could check up on movie descriptions from various satellite TV channels and get more info on some that are very briefly and inadequately described in the online guide. While the book is fairly big, the type is very small - requires good light and good eyes and still probably reading glasses! Aside from that, this book is a disappointment in several ways.
Largely redundant with Classic Guide - Lack of coverage of MANY 2008 movies - Lack of coverage of non-major movies.
Maltin has a Classic Movie Guide - I think it runs through 1960. It is pretty good and the type size is easily readable. The 2009 Guide covers many of the same classic movies, si it is redundant in amny ways - I guess to bulk up the number of entries to 17,000.
This book doesn't cover even many of the bigger name 2008 movies that are now on HBO, Showtime, etc. (as I write this it is January, 2009). So, even though it's the 2009 Guide, it doesn't cover all of 2008.
This book doesn't cover many, many of the movies on the various channels. If the movie is somewhat obscure or, apparently, not from a major studio, you probably won't find it here. I guess I expected to and therefor was disappointed.
All of Maltin's reviews need to be broken up into 3 distince volumes, in my opinion. Make the Classic guide (pre-1960 a trifle more complete and let it go at that. Break the other guides up into a 1960 - 1990 book that is comprehensive and then a third one ruinning from 1990 - Present (whatever year that may be) and, again, more comprehensive than this one is.
Better yet, someone could do a set of 3 books from the AllMovie.com website. Their reviews are every bit as good, though they don't have STAR Ratings, AND they are far more comprehensive - it is extremely rare to not find a movie title there - in all of its versions through the years.
The reviews this book has are good and it is extensive. But, if you're planning to use it to get more info on the movies on your satellite channels, you may be disappointed, too....more info - Leonard Maltin's 2009 Movie Guide
The book is good, however, I will have to get the Classics Book also because many movie titles are no longer included in one volume. I guess the book would become unwieldy. I had to look long and hard for the listing of directors. A Table of Contents would be helpful. I seem to remember our last volume having lists of Academy Award winners as well as perhaps the AFI list of the 100 Greatest Films. I miss those....more info - The Best of It's Kind
This is still the best Movie Guide out there. I agree with the reviews in this book far more than any other. I always get the large size because the small one just doesn't quite last a year. Overuse probably. I do have one criticism. Title are still being deleted amd I do not believe this is necessary. I know of eight films made after 1960 that were in last year's guide but not in this one and I know there must be more. Now none of the the ones I am know of are classics, but one of them is a competently made war film which and still shows up on cable. It would be better to relegate films such as "Project Moon Base", a movie I like, to the Classic Movie Guide edition. Deleting titles should no longer be necessary. This is the only reason my rating is not a 5...more info - Good transaction
We are very happy with the book. It was delivered timely and arrived as described. I would purchase from this individual again. Thanks...more info - unreadable
The reduced dimension of this book make it useless for virtually anyone over 35. If libraries know the dimensions of books, why doesn't Amazon?...more info - Great resource for movie lovers
Leonard Maltin's movie guides are a great resource for movie lovers. I try to update my copy every 3 or 4 years. I have been buying these since the 1980s! Almost every movie ever made is in these books. Best, most complete movie guide out there!...more info - Dont watch TV without it
I got this for my Dad, who does not have a computer. He uses it contstantly to look up names of actors in movies and get a short review. He used to call us and ask, because it would drive him crazy who that certain actor was, etc. Now he can find out for himself and he loves it. An amazing number of movies are listed....more info - Great book much improved
I have been using Leonard Maltin's guide that I purchased in 1986. I just purchase the new version, and find it much improved and I like the fact that I can find if a movie has been released on DVD or VHS. Great guide....more info - Font is way too small
The size of the book and the font is just too small. It is smaller than other versions of his yearly book, and had I known it was so small with tiny font I would not have purchased the book. I certainly would have paid twice as much for a book twice as large with bigger font....more info - Great book for film buffs
Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide is the perfect reference book for anyone who enjoys movies. Each review rates the movie, lists the director and major players and provides a short synopsis of the story. There's also a film biography for most major actors and actresses. You'll find yourself turning to this book again and again. It makes a very good gift, too - one that friends definitely appreciate....more info - Maltin, top notch
Get 5 copies of Maltins Movie Reviews every year. One for us, and a copy for each of our sons's (in their fifties,) Christmas Stockings. The old one my husband and I pass on to a neighbor. I don't always agree with Maltin's reviews, but I always enjoy reading them. Good backgrounds on Netflix and T.V. movies I am thinking of seeing. Appreciate the 5 for 4 deal that you give....more info
