The call centers are still a nascent business in India and are witnessing high rates of employee attrition. There is a very large population of educated English speaking people in India and the comparative low costs of operating in India are an encouraging factor to more and more companies from abroad.
The entry-level jobs in call centers are generally of customer care executives. The general duties of a customer care executive include answering telephone calls, taking down details of the callers query and logging this information on a computer, providing the caller with appropriate information or advice, in some cases, selling a caller products or services.
In the call center jobs that are offered in outbound call centre services such as telemarketing, an operator is typical expected to identify the potential customers and also make outgoing calls for marketing the organization's products. The call center customer care executives are occasionally also expected to follow-up calls by sending letters, faxes or e-mail, deal with customer complaints etc.
Call center jobs and duties also depend on the type of product or service that the organization provides and the type of client he/she is servicing. Generally after working as an operator for three or four years in a call center job, an executive is promoted to a supervisory level based on the ability and performance.
