The AXD 321 optimizes the WAN (Wide Area Network) bandwidth required to support demanding LAN (Local Area Network) applications. Also, by integrating voice and data on the same network, the AXD 321 eliminates the need for separate networks for different WAN requirements.
AXE Switching System
An important element in Ericsson's offering is its industry leading AXE system. Some 150 million wireline lines in 125 countries have been sold, establishing AXE as the most deployed digital switching system in the world, currently in use by more than 350 wireline operators.
AXE is also the basis for all Ericsson cellular systems in use with more than 350 mobile network operators. Having a common system for both wireline and cellular networks puts Ericsson in a unique position in the industry 每 with more than 300 million subscribers using AXE for their wireline or wireless communication needs. The main areas of use for the AXE switching system include:
AXE Local
Ericsson's AXE Local is a state-of-the-art open architecture with a powerful set of revenue generating and cost reducing features, a cornerstone in the network of networks of the future. AXE Local is offered for Local Exchange, National Transit Exchange, Intelligent Network Node (SSP, SCP, or SSCP), or any combination of applications.
AXE TransLocal
AXE TransLocal contains both effective hardware and software that enables the operator to maintain a low cost of ownership in the form of low operating costs and low maintenance costs. It has an open architecture and open interfaces compliant with industry standards in conjunction with backward compatibility. AXE TransLocal can combine the revenue-creating voice networks with multi network capability. It can transfer and receive voice and data services from ATM/IP/Frame Relay networks. The AXI 510 can be used as an access device for ISPs or in the access network as an intelligent concentration and selection node for corporate or ISP Points of Presence (PoP) access. Especially designed to meet increasing demand for high-speed intranet and ADSL IP access, the AXI 510 allows creation of customized and differentiated services.
Ericsson Open Network Gateway
The Ericsson Open Network Gateway sets the standard in SS7 signaling enabled carrier class multi access products. Via one single platform, a Service Provider is able to offer its customers dial-up Internet access, Voice over IP (VoIP) and access to any IP based services. SS7 gateway functionality enables the provider to achieve operator status and directly offload the dial-up Internet traffic. The Ericsson implementation adheres to standards being developed within e.g., IETF and the Softswitch Consortium, assuring provision of full multi-vendor network possibilities.
The Open Network Gateway builds on the Ericsson heritage of carrier class reliability and scaleability and its world leading SS7 competence. In addition, the Open Network Gateway will be the gateway to access IP based services developed by Ericsson 每 or any other third party IP application following the standards of a layered open network architecture.
Ericsson's high-speed xDSL solutions
Ericsson's xDSL access solutions are optimized fpr delivery of full service broadband multimedia access over existing copper networks. With universal mechanics for all xDSL variants, ANSI and ETSI standards compliance, high density line cards and splitter cards, new "Network Terminals" for full-rate ADSL and G.Lite modes, and optimized management systems, Ericsson's xDSL access solutions move ever closer to the ultimate in affordable network scalability and flexibility.
Ericsson's xDSL addresses professional users with applications such as LAN-to-LAN interconnects, tele-working, distance learning, Internet access, as well as multimedia and video conferencing services: and the residential market with applications like "always-on Internet," digital interactive/broadcast video, e-commerce and games.
Access 910
The Ericsson multi service Access 910 platform provides a future-proof solution for wireline access, with low cost of ownership and state-of-the-art performance. The Access 910 integrates narrowband (PSTN and ISDN) and broadband (xDSL), in any combination, in one integrated access node. This solution is especially interesting to operators as it enables stepwise introduction of tailored combinations of new access technologies as user demand changes. The integrated platform meets the needs for both AXE access as well as for open interfaces, including V5.2 interfaces. Therefore, Access 910 offers practical, smooth and economical migration from narrowband to broadband services, utilizing an evolutionary investment in the access network.
MINI-LINK BAS (LMDS)
Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS is the first point-to-multipoint access system to fully leverage on the benefits of using TDMA technology for LMDS, together with ATM, for broadband access capacities. In comparison to other available technologies, TDMA provides the best solution for handling very fast, dynamic-capacity allocation, which is a requirement for statistical multiplexing of the bursty traffic sources in a wireless broadband access system.
Ericsson's F-DCA (Fast Dynamic Capacity Allocation) is incorporated into the MINI-LINK BAS solution. The system dynamically and instantaneously allocates capacity between 0 and 37 Mbps to any user within the coverage area. The system handles cells with a typical radius of approximately 6 miles (5 kilometers) providing superior support for growing IP traffic with robust carrier class quality.
The system operates in the 24 to 31 GHz frequency band, including US LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution System) bands, Canadian bands, as well as European ETSI bands.
IP TELEPHONY
Ericsson's IPT System raises the standard for IP telephony. It enables phone-phone, fax-fax, PC-phone, and PC-PC services over IP networks. IPT is scaleable for companies of all sizes, ranging from small corporate configurations up to large-scale global operator solutions. It features built-in, carrier-grade redundancy as well as easy operation and maintenance using TCP/IP networks. The latest version includes SS7 signaling operability and voice capacity of 4,680 channels.

These highly scalable tools are easy to deploy and allow service providers to quickly expand their networks as their markets grow. NRM and SLM are available today for the AXI 520 core gigabit router and will be available for cross-platform integration of all Ericsson IP routers in first quarter of 2000. By the end of 2000, NRM/SLM will integrate Ericsson's GPRS mobile platform as well.
TRANSPORT
ERION Networker
The Ericsson ERION Product Family of Optical Networking Products has taken an innovative approach to offering products to operators and service providers. Instead of offering several different products targeted at different applications such as a long haul product or a metro product, Ericsson has designed a common platform that can have software and hardware components added in a plug-and-play fashion. This allows Ericsson to configure and optimize the core system for particular applications. Ericsson offers common boards between systems, which reduces sparing and training costs. Ericsson has won important WDM contracts with operators like BT, Sonera and Telefonica.
