“I think I like it.” I think I like it. Well I like it- but it’s hard to get way into this one. In one way it ‘takes one away’ and in another way- it doesn’t go far enough in that regard. So you are stuck about 2/3 the way there. Know what I mean? Read the rest…

Redi Shade 1617201 Black Out Pleated Shade 36-by-72-Inch, 6-Pack
“These work great” These work great in my daughters room. I put them right over the mini blinds, they were very easy to install, and they look nice too. I put them inside the window panes and left a little room on each side when I cut them to size. This allows a little light comes through the side but otherwise they work as blackout shades. Definitely worth the cost. Read the rest…
Ty Max and Ruby Set of Both Beanie Babies Max the Rabbit and Ruby the Rabbit
“Great Max and Ruby Dolls” Just purchased these toys for my 4 year old daughter for Easter. She is a huge Max and Ruby fan. The beanie babies did not disappoint. She knew who they were right away and they’re a little bigger then they look in the picture. They are also the high quality that you expect from beanie babies. Read the rest…
Sarah Palin 2009 Calendar
“snot-filled tissue” Scarlett Johanssen blew her nose in a tissue and put it on eBay (proceeds to a charity). The final bid was thousands of dollars. People will buy anything. Does anyone think it’s incredible tacky for Sarah’s friend to cash in on her this way? I wonder if the profits are going to charity. Somehow I doubt it. People are hurting. Don’t waste your money on this crap.

Perfection: A Memoir of Betrayal and Renewal
“hit a nerve” Just as reading about someone with an eating disorder can remind you that it’s even a more typical dieter can go too far, Julie’s marriage, while on the extreme end of the spectrum, struck a nerve. While my husband didn’t cheat or bully in the same way as hers, I connected with the feeling of being gaslighted, living with anxiety, the low-grade fear, feeling as if my emotions needed to be medicated and being subsumed under a stronger force at times. I’ve never seen these subjects written about in a way in which I saw myself, and it was powerful. Read the rest…

Metallica: Year and A Half Parts 1 & 2
“metallica:year and half parts 1 & 2″ I love this dvd because it shows you what it is like to be a heavy metal rock star from the recording an album to being on the road (the good and bad )and meeting and dealing with other band members bad behavior eg Axl rose. You come out of watching the dvd feeling like you have been to some amazing concerts and travelled the world with your best friends Jason, James, Lars and Kirk. Read the rest…
Candy-O
“A notch below the debut album, but still very good” -?~-?ou top THE CARS? You don’t. CANDY-O is a pretty good attempt, though. The first side is solid. LET’S GO is the obvious “hit” from the album. SINCE I HELD YOU is a moody rocker with a great chorus and nice guitar work from Elliot Easton. I love Ben Orr’s vocals on IT”S ALL I CAN DO, and Gregg Hawke’s keyboards are tasteful. DOUBLE LIFE is a neat number with Ric Ocasek’s vocals really making the song. SHOOBY-DOO is a throwaway, but I like the transition into CANDY-O, a great song to round out the first side. Where I think this album falls short is with side 2. Aside from DANGEROUS TYPE, I don’t care for the flip side at all. LUST FOR KICKS and NIGHTSPOTS seem like filler to me. GOT ALOT ON MY HEAD would sound better if it wasn’t so rushed. I guess it’s too much to ask for CANDY-O to be as good or better than the debut. A band has forever to work on
their first album. Not so with the second. I think it shows somewhat on this one. Still, you’ve got to hand it … Read the rest…
Ravel: The Piano Concertos; Valses nobles et sentimentales
“Appropriately robotic pianism” Ravel’s concertos are contrived affairs, with the G major work going on past its stay, and the left-hand showcase compressed to the point that any number of measures seem to be missing between the duple-time “Bolero” revisitation and the slam-bang finale. Maybe if Ravel had been able to write a third concerto, he might have found the right balance between breadth and content, but there are more than a few beautifully inspired musical moments to atone for the mushy organization. The influence of George Gershwin on both works is blatantly obvious–which is O.K., considering the fact that George and Maurice were, by all reports, friends, and because Gershwin made a career of aping Ravel, Milhaud, and other 20th-century Frenchmen. Apparently, the liner-note writers have never heard of Gershwin, the most famous American composer during the period these works were composed.
Fittingly, pianist Krystian Zimerman plays in a very bureaucratic and technically-flawless style. Whether R… Read the rest…

“Not new at all.” When I purchased this item, I thought I was getting a battery, that performs like a new battery.
We were replacing a battery that was barely giving 10 minutes of talk time.
This new battery purchased, was giving us a much better talk time than what we were replacing.
But it was NO WAY as good as a brand new battery. We have decided to keep it. But are very dissappointed that the battery was not a new one. There was no mention of this battery not being new in the description, prior to the purchase.

The Andromeda Strain
“Not as good as I had hoped.” “The Andromeda Strain” was a good movie, but not as good as I had hoped. SPOILER WARNING! I can’t find any way to describe the plot situation without some amount of a spoiler. An alien infection makes it to Earth and kills a number of people. Luckily, it arrived in a very isolated place. The sample is taken to a special isolation lab, where scientists try to find a way of killing the infection. There is some marching around by scientists in isolation suits and tense music/sound effects and lots of interior views of the antiseptic lab where the antiseptic work continues. Finally, the infection escapes! However, luck interferes.
It deserves more than a one star deduction for being boring and antiseptic. It deserves at least another star deducted for a contrived plot and boring conversations. I leave it with 3-stars only because the film does pose some pertinent questions about what to do in such a situation. All this, from Michael Crichton, an SF writer, who (Ibelie… Read the rest…
Wet Hot American Summer
“at times unwatchable, but still quite likeable “ I checked this title out mainly because it stars Janeane Garofalo and David Hyde Pierce. Isn’t Garofalo, despite her not being “hot” in Hollywood standards, such an actress who invariably infuses an immense charm to any movie she stars in? Simply by her being there? The beautiful and exotic landscape of rural Ireland plays its part, but it is largely her comic talent that saves the consistently mediocre romantic comedy The Matchmaker. To many, her dancing to the tune of My Sharona in Reality Bites will be even more unforgettable than Uma Thurman’s in the “famous dancing scene” of Pulp Fiction. (*Both come from 1994).
As to David Hyde Pierce, I love and admire him in Frasier, for the obvious reason that he is a brilliant, brilliant, comedian. Wet Hot American Summer shows Pierce and Garofalo as each other’s love intersest, which can be a reason enough to give it a chance. I had a few (not many, but, well, more than two) real laughs watching them. Even though the chemsitry is… Read the rest…
Sacred
“Loving the series–please write more, Lehane!” In the third book of the series, our intrepid detective pair, Genaro and Kenzie are finally available to explore their romantic connection. While on a missing persons case, Genaro and Kenzie spend time in urban Florida which exerts its influence on the case and their relationship. Instead of the frigid atmosphere of Boston, the sun heats up their relationship and the story.
But a moment of sun in a noir novel must still must form deep shadows. Ultimately the pair are confronted by violence, incest and conspiracy. With their pragmatic view of life and their sarcastic wit, Genaro and Kenzie are able to survive a homicidal family who tries to seduce them into betraying their values and one another.
Lehane has a knack for spicy, bizarre characters and endearing relationships. His prose is poetic, almost visionary. His plot construction is impeccable. A non-stop read! Read the rest…
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
“Truth be Cold” Fair warning, this story will make you shiver. Emerging from the pages like an inverted Mark Twain novel, it reveals the tale of a young boy named Ishmael Beah and his horrific journey through early adolescence in war ravaged Sierra Leone in the 1990s. It’s not the high octane carnage, sadistic ingenuity, or pervasive sense of evil that render this book more terrifying than a Stephen King/Dean Koontz collaboration. It’s the fact that it’s real, the candid recollections of an innocent kid caught in the vise of hell and abandoned there. This, the narrative illustrates with chilling authenticity, is how demons are made.
Beah’s transformation from a hip hop loving twelve year old with low slung pants into brutal, bloodthirsty automaton takes place in stages, after his village is attacked and brutalized by rebel forces battling Sierra’s Leone’s military government. Stripped of his family, his possessions, and through hunger, terror, and exhaustion, of all hope for escape, B… Read the rest…
